We used Smart Penny for a local move. As someone who has moved every 2 to 3 years for the last 12 years and has hired a lot of movers, I was not overly impressed. After we had an in person quote for 8 to 9 hours, my husband and I had moved at least 20% of our belongings and expected it to take less. However, for 3 men (mind you I've only ever had 2 movers at a time), this was the slowest move we've ever had. First off, somehow travel time was billed as 1 hour from North Reading to Salem (a 25 to 30 min drive), then once we left the apartment for our new house a 12 to 15 min drive away, leaving at the same time as they did, they didn't arrive for another 30 minutes! At one point we asked them how much longer they estimated it would take to finish loading the truck (so that we knew when to order pizza for them at the new house), and the dead giveaway that they were just milking it was that he LOOKED AT THE TIME to tell me one more hour. They did an average job with the move besides that, attention to detail overall could have been better (like passing on address/access instructions to the movers after their guy came for the quote). ln summary, I definitely wouldn't use Smart Penny again.”
