Rockville Econo Van Lines Reviews

★☆☆☆☆
I would not even give them one star. Con artist, just like the other reviews said. I hired them anyway for a move from DC to NYC because they were cheap. But in the end, you are swindled into paying a lot more and they will hold your belonging hostage until you pay. John (the "relocation consultant") will give you a low quote, and then charge you $300-$400 extra at the end for taping items or using moving blankets, even though he initially said they were included in the quote. You will get several different documents and emails that are purposely contraditory so that he can just con you in the end. I had missing items he claimed were never there, and a lot of broken items. they also had some of my furniture sectioned off and were getting ready to leave when I took a look on the truck and found it. They tried to claim it wasn't mine! Do NOT hire Econo Van Lines -- you will regret it. They also have had many complaints about them to the Better Business Bureau, and for good reason. They should not be allowed to remain in business. I even mentioned all of the bad reviews I saw to "John" and he said it was just misunderstandings. I think I knew I was making a big mistake hiring them, but like others, I thought I was saving money. I paid for my mistake. The false low quotes are the only way this company gets any business at all, is my guess. It's hard to beleive they keep getting away with this con game. But they do.

I must agree with the previous comment. The owner is definitely a scam expert. Once you submitted a list of your possessions and furniture the owner will give you a pretty competitive quote. However what he fails to disclose to you is that they will charge you for shrink wrap and duck tape for an additional amount that is about the same as the initial quote you've been given. So, you end up paying twice the initially agreed amount. Also, they will attempt to charge you for an extra hour of work even before the agreed time has run out. In my case, 30 minutes before 2 hours of work has elapsed one of the movers told me that they will have to charge an extra hour because they don't have enough time to unload everything despite only few things left in the truck. After 25 minutes of arguing with the owner, he agreed not to charge me for another hour but instructed his workers to unload my things and leave without unwrapping them. That took about 5 minutes and they left. P.S. Moving itself can be very stressful, but dealing with these guys just takes it to another level. My honest advice to everyone is to avoid at any cost. If I could I would give these guys zero stars. On the positive note, they haven't damaged any of my stuff.

It definitely was a huge scam. I got charges that I never approved and they wouldn't unload the truck until I paid them more than twice the original estimate (I am not exaggerating). Don't let this happen to you. Then the gentleman proceeded to discuss if they "wanted" me in Spanish in my new living room!?! People, don't let this happen to you. I am not lying about anything. I would hate for someone else to experience this service when there are so many cheaper reputable movers in the area. It might sound cheaper by the estimate, but trust me, they will find a way to get more money. Even if you have to file a complaint with BBB to get it back like me, they will get for a while.

I would not recommend this company to anyone! The manager repeatedly told me that my stuff would be delivered on a certain date. After they picked up everything they told me they were extremely backed up and didn't know when they could bring it. It was delivered 4 days late. They also charged me $130 to wrap a few breakables I was scared to wrap myself... When I got to unpacking I found that they through all of my breakable items into a box unwrapped. On top of this the management was completely unapologetic and no discount was given.

STAY AWAY!!!! SCAMMERS! Very unprofessional, they tell you what you want to hear until they get your money! After receiving my belongings 4 days after expected I had broken dishes that came out of a box clearly marked fragile/ glass! All of my boxes looked like the truck tumbled over 5 times before arriving! I have 2 broken dressers that they will not pay to replace because of the type of wood it is! They left all the trash they took out of my apartment in my building hallway. Spend a little more money and go else where! There's really no savings when you have to buy new furniture afterwards!!

HORRIBLE, RIP OFF, DISHONEST and UNDERHANDED. You will be charged over twice your quote. (me it was almost 400 over my quote) They charge you 22$ to wrap each mattress and each box spring and that IS NOT on your quote. And they will not move them without wrapping them. They charge you 5 for each roll of tape (they used 6 or me) and they re-tape everything no matter how well you have packed it. I had already OVER taped all my boxes myself. You are charge for the plastic wrap they use as well and everything is over wrapped and over taped,, they even wrapped tape around and around my new mattress before they even wrapped it. why? so they could bill me. The driver addressed me in an very inappropriate manner and spent 30 minutes fixing his license plate on my dime. I have never been this ripped off before. They asked if my husband would be coming home to help and I should have said yes, I feel they would have taken less advantage of me. I never mentioned a husband, but it was their way of finding out if they were moving a single woman they could take advantage of. I can't express what a horrible experience this was. Extremely dishonest. I tried calling and writing letters but nothing. they also charge me for boxes that I PROVIDED to them. HORRIBLE. STAY AWAY. And they damaged my shelves and put all the boxes in the wrong rooms even though I clearly had them marked. I moved a small apartment to a small townhouse less than 1 mile away and it was almost 850$ They would Not move my stuff into my house until I paid them. Said it was because too many people refuse to pay. Gee I wonder why.

To be honest with you, giving this "company" a 1-star rating is too generous. We hired this moving company and thought because of the price we wouldn't have any issues..think again. First they called a couple days ahead to confirm which i thought was great and professional. They ask for your number and alternate number to give you a reminder call and to let you know they are on their way(keep that in mind). Then they called the afternoon before which was also appreciated. They took a deposit of $75 of the $375 they told us it would cost and said that the $300 balance would be collected when they arrived. Now the day of the move we are sitting looking at the clock turn 1:40 still waiting to be moved out at the 12noon time they confirmed to move us! We tried to calling them and kept getting the answering service and couldn' t leave a message because the mailbox was full. When we finally got through they claimed they couldnt reach us saying the number was disconnected. Hello.... we gave you an alternate number! They claimed they didnt have the alternate number to reach us and that was one version of them being late the other was the weather. Then asked us to text them our address. Talk about disorganized. Then when they get there no apologies and before they moved anything they wanted to talk money! They told us it will be extra for blankets to use, they said they need to wrap our furniture which would be extra, it would take them 7hrs to move us which would be extra (it took them 3 1/2), we had clothes in bags because we ran out of boxes and they said they wouldnt move those without purchasing a wardrobe box which in reality you don't pay for; you rent it, they left things behind of ours such as stools and stands, and there is gas charges which almost doubled the price. Talk about being raped. We asked to speak with a manager which was Alex and we told him our grievences. He did not care and offered no concessions and dismissed what was the remaining balance on the invoice. And they broke things clearly marked "fragile", caused dents and scrapes in the new home and left their trash behind. Whatever you do.....STAY AWAY from this company. You think you're saving money with using them but you get had in the end, trust that!

I truly wish I could give zero stars. This company offers very affordable rates but beware-- they will scam you. They are disorganized and they got my pickup date wrong- even though I had an email that they sent confirming the correct date. The delivery has been even worse. They were instructed to hold my stuff in storage until we moved cross-country and had an address for them to deliver to. We found an apartment and told them our move-in date and let them know that would be the first date we could accept delivery. How surprised was I when I got a call 4 days early that they were going to be making the delivery! I told them we haven't moved in yet- why are you here so early?? They're now trying to charge me a re-delivery fee "because I'm unable to accept the delivery". I cannot believe the incompetence and misguided practices of this company and just hope that we get our possessions in the condition we sent them in... Although I'm not expecting it. Stay away!

they don't deserve a damn star not a one!!!stay away it's been a month and we moved from va to fl and still we have not received our house good items. The owner is very very rude his name is dinko. they tell you they will drop your items off on a certain day and they don't show up or call you...they don't even return your calls. very very poor service .

Stay away from this company. Do not proceed. It has been indeed one of the worst moving experiences of my life. They do not return phone calls, show up late, and have numerous complaints with the Better Business Bureau. They give you a seemingly affordable estimate then charge you $1.00 for each pound over. My items came to 600 over the estimate. I'm going on 5 weeks without my items. This company should not be in business.

I used Econo Van Lines recently from my move from Burlington, MA to Silver Spring, MD. I was a little worried, because it is another interstate move, and I know how hard it is. John was the person I spoke with initially and he gave me pretty reasonable price. I got my e-mail confirmation and estimate. It was then to me to do the packing. At the pick up guys were great and they moved me out in just under 3 hours. Amazing! I was a little concern about the delivery though. I was moving into an elevator building and with limited availability for the elevator I had only the option to reserve a specific date. I then spoke with Alex expressing my concerns about the elevator time slot and date, and he promised me it will not be an issue, since their storage is in Rockville. So based on his words and guarantee for the delivery so I scheduled my elevator timing. The movers arrived even a little earlier than 9am. Unloading into my apartment went again smoothly. It was different movers, than the pick up, but they were also great! I recommend Econo Van Lines. John, Alex and the movers were great and understandable. Thank you Econo Van Lines for making this move smooth and easy!

The bad experience started since they got to the house. Movers with a bad attitude I would call them. They called me that morning to tell me that they were sending a 4 men crew instead of 3, but that they would not charge me extra. The fourth guy was the crew leader and he spent the full 4 hours sleeping in his truck and the couple of times he took a break from napping to come in the house he had a horrible attitude. The day of the move this "crew leader" was unpaking my couch of over $2k by striking at it with a box cutter. It so enraged me because they do this lousy work but they only cover $0.6 per pound on their insurance and they determine the weight unilaterally. While moving my stuff they broke the corners off a bistro table I have and when I put the claim, the manager there called me to tell me that they "do not cover cheap pressed wood". It was a typical middle class type of furniture. If my furniture was too cheap for them (which is not), then dont take my business either. Sooo... if you dont have oak furniture in your house... not the moving company for you. Price for the move was not cheap either, which would have been good if they had good service, but it was in excess of $900 for a two bedroom apartment seven miles down the road. They determined my table weights 100 pounds even though I had an email for the manufacturer that said 200 pounds. Conclusion: Unprofessional, uncourteous, bad service... I wish I could say one good thing, but I can't.

I placed a $150.00 deposit down on a move, which consisted of a 8 piece BD set plus 10 boxes to NC. Was given a do not exceed estimate of $759.30. The pickup was scheduled on 4/28/13 and the delivery was 5/2/13. Before pick up I sent $380 to pay for first half payment up front. After the Econo Van lines picked up my belongings they changed the delivery date because my load was so small they needed to transport it with another load. Afterwards I was told they needed to weigh my load because there was additional items such as a dressor and airmoire and boxes. He said I didnt state that my bed room set would consist of a dressor and airmoire, even though it was listed on their inventory in my estimate. He said they would weigh the items and charge me $.99 per pound. Econo called me back and stated I had 1800lbs worth of furniture on the truck and my new total was $1561.03. I wanted to pick up my belongs and they were going to charge me $915.00, said they worked 6 hours because they charge from the time the movers leave the office until the time they return. They had my belongs for two weeks and refused to release them. During that time I contacted the Attorney Generals office, consumer complaint, and various other agencies plus I sent a very detail email to the company with my dissatisfaction. Eventually, Econo called and said they did not want any problems and delivered my items -two weeks later, at 9pm at night-when they were suppose to arrive at 4pm. The movers were nice but they were not helpful. They were suppose to assemble my furniture but said they could not because they did not disassemble. We began to look for screws and they were missing. I immediately called my mother because the value city guys placed they screws in a ziplock bag and placed in the second drawer of my side table. So now I am unable to put my bedroom set together! This is ridiculous! THese guys are scammers. The spokeman John Atanosov was very shady. He spent most of his time talking over top of me. Beware they have shady dealings. If you work with them check your paper work, they will allow people to sign on your behalf and stick you with it. To top it off they sent me a scale ticket with the weight...and guess what??? It wasn't even my scale ticket. Beware! Beware! Beware! They over charged me for packing materials. They charged me $238.00 which consisted of a my mattress shrink wrapped and packing tape. These guys make up prices...have your paper work read when speaking to them!! Cause they will try to trick their way into your pocketbooks - ladies!!

Definitely a SCAM!!!! Do NOT use services!!! John and Alex are very unprofessional!!! My mother and I set up a move one month in advance and gave John a $200 deposit. Following the deposit John and Alex were inaccessible and never contacted my mother or myself for the communication of pick date and time. The day of the pick-up I had to call John several times, until a pick-up window was established. They then gave me a pick-up window of 12-4:30 and arrived at 5:30pm! Further, John never sent my mother a contract for the move and when he sent it, it was completely different from the verbal contract he initially told us. Initially, the verbal contract was that I would receive my possessions between 7-10 days for delivery, than it was changed in the written contract to 5 to21 days. These guys are complete frauds!!! I was forced to send all of my boxes via FedEx!!! Horrible custom service, horrible service!!!!!!

On 2/1/14, I hired Econo Van Lines for my apartment move from Silver Spring, MD to Greenbelt, MD. I was orginally quoted $225. When the movers arrived, the driver assessed my furniture and told me that I would need to purchase 2 additional boxes for mirrors and glass tables. I agreed. The boxes would total $50+ and he adjusted my total. The movers proceeded to pack my belonging into the truck. During the process, one of the movers put a hole in my wall. When I addressed them about the hole, he told me that I put that hole in the wall because a fresh hole would have paint dust falling out of it. I then touched the hole and showed him that paint dust was indeed on my fingers. When all of my belongings were packed away on the truck, the driver told me that an additional $310 would be added to my original quote. I inquired about the extra charges and the driver told me that he used additional boxes and packing materials that I did not authorize, even though he told me that I did. I then called the office on my drive to the new apartment and the owner told me that the driver disclosed all of the packing fees with me and I told him that he only told me that I needed 2 boxes of $50. I also told him that a hole was put in my wall and that I was dissatisfied about the service. Upon arrival to the new apartment, the driver told me that he would not be able to remove my boxes and furniture until I paid. The total came up to more than $700, more than double my originally quoted price. I called the owner and told him about the hole, additional boxes and packing materials that were used and he took a $50 off of the total. Even though I was very disappointed with the service, I agreed to pay because I needed my furniture. The driver asked if he could take a picture of my credit card and told him that he could call to verify the credit card but I did not trust him to take a picture of my card. He then called the verify the credit card. He told me that this card was different from the card I used to pay the $75 deposit and I told him "Yes, I would like to use my credit card instead of my debit card." On 2/4/14, I checked my back statement and I noticed the charge of $628 withdrawn from my checking account. I then called the moving company and the owner told me that I authorized the use of that card. I told him that the driver must have made a mistake because I only authorized him to use my credit card. He then proceeded to call me a "liar" and that I was trying to do something "shady". I wanted to use my credit card because I paid the rent for my new apartment that day using my checking account and because the total price for the move was more than expected, I wanted to make sure everyone got their money without any issues. I asked if I could speak to the driver because he knows that I gave him a different card and he told me that I would never be able to talk to him and continued to persistently tell me that he knows what card I used, even though he was not there when the transaction was made. He told me that he could fax the proof because he has a picture of the credit card. I told him that I never showed the debit card to the driver and my credit card was never taken out of my purse. I provided my fax number but I have yet to receive any proof. I told him that it was okay if he made a mistake considering that both cards are from Wells Fargo and both are Visa, I just wanted an apology and for the money to be credited back and charged using the correct card. He told me that he was not going to credit the money and to move on because it is over. The way the owner spoke to me was totally unacceptable and disrespctful. I have never done business with anyone like him before. If he has my debit card information on the forms, it is because I gave him my number a week prior to the move to be used for my deposit. But, I specifically told him that I did not want to use my debit card for this transaction.

A total rip off! Chose Econo Van Lines after getting 5 different quotes. Was encouraged by their guarantee of 3 movers, and estimate of 4 hours. Was thoroughly disappointed. They arrived 2-1/2 hrs after their scheduled time frame. Charged more for packing materials than the move itself. No price list provided in advance, nor did they state certain items needed to be packed a certain way! Promised an adjustment, but still have not received it. Avoid it like a porta-potty on a 100 degree day!

Dhananjai Kimar 1 star STAY AWAY!!!! SCAMMERS! Very unprofessional, CHEATERS, I got a quotation from John Atanasov in Econo Van Lines LLC(as he said he is general manger while does not know how to behave with customers.) He asked for extra money on every step like packing, loading and delivery by given various unprofessional reasons and gives threaten you that your belongings will not be delivered on time and you will be responsible for storage and other charges too, while never provides you any delivery date or final price to pay. Harass a lot to my wife in my absence by asking to pay extra $150 for packing and $800 extra for extra weight and finally she was asked to pay double price of original estimation given. There are lots of fake comments which say best/very good experience, I would say worth experience of my life. Looks like one Man Company (John’s) with no business ethics. They were so rude once they stepped into your house to collect your belongings? Lastly, Econ Van lines is rate D with the BBB. I have found many bad reviews regarding John Atanasov in Econo Van Lines LLC, i wish I could have seen them for hire them. They have not been in business for long and have had 16 complaints against them to date. I like to complaint these guys on BBB, if anybody knows the process please let me know?

Worst experience ever!!! I have only written a few reviews in my life, and all have been because I was so impressed with the service I received. That is not the case withe Econo Van Lines. I paid for 3 movers and one was on his phone the entire time. They went over the time quoted to me by a significant amount, even though nothing changed from what I told them needed to be moved when I gave them the information for the estimate. They left dirt and trash in my home and damaged walls and doorways. There were hidden charges and fees that they did not tell me about until we were at my new place and then refused to unload my things unless I signed the invoice. They damaged a number of my things. When I called to make a complaint I received no return phone call. I disputed the charge due to the damage to my items and overages on the quote. Because I signed the invoice (because they wouldn't unload my things otherwise) I had to pay the charges in full. I was fine with paying for the service that I agreed to...but no one likes being taken advantage of and paying for a service from a company whose workers charge you for hours that they are not working and whose employees damage your things. I eventually got through to someone there in customer service (I believe his name was Dinko) and I was appalled by the way that he spoke to me. He said 'too bad you have to pay, you aren't getting a free move.' I didn't want a free move. I wanted them to honor the quote that they gave me and I didn't want to pay time overages because only 2 of the 3 men that I was paying for were actually working and I wanted compensation for damages. He did not care about a single complaint that I had, and told me that things get damaged all the time and that it wasn't their problem and said he would send me a claims form. I eventually received a claims form, but have not to this day received the information from the company that I need to process the claim. I have contacted them numerous times to attempt to get this information and no one has gotten back to me. Bottom line...do not use this company! You will be disappointed.

This company stole my Xbox One during moving. They then screaned my calls to avoid answering me. I finally reached the owner of the company who threatened me over the phone and said he's blocking my number and then hung up. Their claims process is a joke. They have another criminal organization, Anthem Claim Management, who takes your claims, and makes up reasons why they don't owe you anything. The police are not able to do much for me, so the best I can hope to make from this situation is to warn others to avoid this company at all costs. Please avoid this company, don't make the mistake that I made.

These people are rip offs. They lowball their estimates to lure you to them. Bait and switch concept. They hike up the price on everything. A 450 local move was $1500.00 when they finished. They stored my things in a warehouse that was not climate controlled and mixed in with other people's things. I was appalled when I thought I would be able to get stuff out. Most of my things were broken. They charged me a total of $7500 for storage and a local move from Maryland to Maryland. My antique sofa was not delivered back to me and the matching chairs were broken. I received someone else's belongings with my things. Buyers beware. The insurance company is a joke. This is a unprofessional, unethical, shady and unreasonable business that will bleed you dry. Please do not trust these folks with your belongings. Piss poor pitiful company that should have their business license revolked.

They quoted me one price and charged me another. I never got to see the contract until the day of the move from the driver. They left all there trash in front of my garage and did not finished setting the book shelve back in the cases. I had one piece that they moved, but they refused to take upstairs, said that it was too heavy. So when I called and spoke with a John, he said that he would send someone else on the following Monday. I asked to get that in writing and he said he would email. Never got the email and when I called the next day, he got mad and hung up the phone. I am not disputing the charges for unfinished work. DO NOT EVER USE THE COMPANY! I wished I would had seen the reviews before using them.
