I requested a quote from Mainstream Movers based on a craigslist ad I saw. They quoted me $75 for two men/hr and an additional $75 if they brought a truck. I'm no stranger to moving so I very specifically asked for a quote with and without the truck. I also asked if they are insured, which they are not, and if were okay to move someone in Chapel Hill. He said "sure, no problem," we just had to book a little later than I wanted to allot for commute. Fair, makes sense, no big. But back to the quote: For the two guys for two hours and the truck, it was $225. He very specifically added it up with me, on the phone, and we came to the final number of $225. I said "sure, sounds great," booked them, and left it at that. Then I get a phone call this morning from them asking me to move my day to an earlier day and I said no because my new lease doesn't start until the day I booked them for. Then he says, "well, you're kinda far so can you just get a U-Haul and we'll load/unload that?" (Note: we'd already discussed this and he'd already told me it was a non-issue.) I asked if he would deduct the $75 from my quote and he said no. Then he tells me that the truck itself was an additional $225 and that my cost would be the same as the original quote, which doesn't make sense. If that were the case, the final number would have been $375, which is a) not the figure he gave me originally, and b) higher than a few of the INSURED competitors. Overall, I got the sense that they had a quote request for a more lucrative move and it seems really unprofessional to ask someone who already got their time booked, to move theirs because someone late to the party wants my slot. It also seems incredibly shady to change someone's quote right when you're also wanting them to move their time. If they don't need or want the business, that's fine -- there are other companies who do. This is REALLY inconvenient as my move was supposed to happen next week (the 31st) and they decided to call me 5 days before the fact (today, the 26th).”

Booking and response was very prompt and appreciate all the details provided upfront. Rating is low for the amount of time wasted by the movers in loading. It would have been An easy 2.5 hours move that was stretched to 4 hours. They did blanket wrapping to shoe rack until I told to stop doing that!!! I know they could do faster based on he fact that they took only 30 minutes to unload. While elevators was a factor, no excuses in taking 2 lamps and going down to the van and taking 10 minutes to come back up. I would have used your service again to move from public storage to my home in October and gave references, but the greed to get some additional time and money for that has costed it.”
