I was in a bad situation because I didn't have a way to move out of my 2BR apartment. Thank goodness for Kirby Moving Co!!!! They were happy to assist me move after my help backed out and it was 2 weeks till I had to be completely gone. I am a veteran of the US Army and I had just gone though a very tough 2 years. TLDR-Loaded up my stuff on his truck for a same-day move, waited for me to drive about 3 hours out without ever leaving the origin, and then told me that he wouldn’t be delivering until he can combine a shipment with another customers. Move-in quality at destination was poor and supervisor was mean to my Mom. Sent photos of my apartment for a short-notice move from central Iowa to St. Louis and was told it would be an easy move. I don’t own a lot of furniture and I had everything boxed up for them. The estimate I was given and the agreement that we had was for a one day move: load up in the morning and unload at the destination the same day. Here is a timeline of my move with Kirby: -Plan was to meet at 7 AM on a Sunday morning. Started calling them at 9 AM asking where they were. They showed up with a truck about 5 times the size they needed at 9:20. I would find out why they came with such a large truck and so late later that day. -At 10AM, I started driving to St. Louis. I was told they would be right behind me. -At 11:30 AM, I got a call from Tay. He wanted to know if he could deliver my stuff a few days later (why hadn’t he left yet???), so he could combine another customer’s stuff with mine and save money on gas. I told him no way, I was paying for a same day move and that’s what we agreed on, and besides I had perishables packed away- I only thought they would be on the truck for about 5 hours. -At 12:30 PM- 2 ½ hours after he said he was leaving the origin- Tay called back and said his back hurt too much to drive to St. Louis today (WHY HADN'T HE LEFT YET???), but wouldn’t you know it, he just so happens to think that he would be recovered from his back pain on the day he asked earlier to change the delivery to. It was a weak, transparent excuse and he knew it, but he had all of my stuff so what was I going to do? He showed up with a truck that could accommodate two customers, and he waited for me to have put 2 ½ hours on the road before he called to say he wouldn’t deliver. This was clearly planned. I told him I would at least expect a big discount since I was paying for a same-day move. He at first said no, then I told him that wasn’t acceptable and to call me tomorrow with the new price. He did not call. -Tay never called in the interim to talk new pricing and I had to call him days later to confirm he would be delivering my stuff. Tay showed up to my new apartment in St. Louis angry. He wouldn’t make eye contact with me and complained quite a bit about the drive at first. I sense something else was going on that I wasn’t privy to, but that shouldn’t be my problem. Later, when we were talking discounts, my Mom (she came up to visit and help me set up my new apartment, thanks to Kirby she slept in a hammock for a few nights and I on the floor) started to ask a question and he actually told her to “stay out of it.” He was mean and dismissive to my Mom. Unfortunately for him, he didn’t know her and boy did he get an earful, the guy was so angry and his face was so red. His fault for being so rude. It wouldn’t have happened if he hadn’t told her to stay out of it. In those words. What the heck. -The quality of the move was C- at best. The movers were ok until the very last item, which was a large trunk that they scratched the brand new floors with in my new place. At this point we had already paid and I did not see them making that right. A floor lamp arrived with a broken shade, and the mattress must not have been wrapped because it arrived very dirty. -The original estimate was high, but I was okay with it because he was willing to do a short-notice, one-day move. I gave 2 stars instead of one because he did eventually give us a substantial discount, and I believe in giving credit where it is due. The original estimate was about 120% of their competitor’s, but the competitors would be loading up and delivering the next day. The discount I ended up getting was about 75% of his competitors. I still wouldn’t ever use them again.”
