I am SO happy we decided to use Mick and his crew for our move to our new house. First off, Mick’s ability to get us on their schedule with with me giving them less than 24 hours notice was amazing. As for the actual move, the guys were on time, efficient, detail oriented and took great care of our belongings. On the day of the move, Nick and his crew were 5 minutes early to the appointment, dealt with a difficult situation that came up that morning (thanks to my old building for not telling me that the service elevator wouldn't be available even though I had reserved them), and did their best to move in a reasonable amount of time. Great experience with DMV Best Movers! I rented a truck to move me from SC to my new place in Columbia Heights, which is up 3.5 flights of stairs. Having moved just a few boxes from my car the week prior, I knew that furniture was going to be tough to maneuver. DMV Best gave me a decent quote for simple unloading services, and had friendly (albeit terse) communication throughout the process. The morning of, one of the movers called me to let me know he was on the way. I had ordered 2 movers for 2 hours, and at the specified time, only 1 had shown up. The other mover called James to let him know, and next thing I knew, I had 3 movers for the 2-mover price. They finished things in just under 2 hours and were super respectful and kind and professional the entire time. All of my stuff was moved without damage (or damaging the wall) and they even helped me assemble my dining room table, and a couple of chairs that I was planning on doing on my own. Would definitely recommend them to all my friends in the future!”

Not great. The total cost came out to be about 1/3 (or $200) more than the quote they provided. They "brought" another mover along and said it saves money because they can move faster and asked if I was ok with being charged per hour -- I agreed. The 3 movers were all nice hard working guys, but they just didn't have any actual moving/packing skills. Oddly enough my neighbor was moving at the exact same time and his team of 2 movers did it a lot faster than us and had a smaller truck. Things broken/damaged: - couple plates - couples wines glasses - filing cabinet - lamp - couch had big mark on it, from something far too heavy being on in it the truck One of the movers piled 4 boxes on top a dresser which was on a moving dolly. He put a box marked as "FRAGILE" on the very top. He couldn't see where he was going and hit something, causing the fragile box to fall from about 6 feet. It's actually shocking everything in it didn't break. Just 4 or 5 plates and a few wine glasses. He was completely dumbfounded how this could have happened. My dad had to point out that the distance he was going wasn't very far and with how long it took him to balance everything on the dolly, he could have carried it all individually and it would have been faster. They weren't very good at packing the truck. If it wasn't for my parents bringing a large SUV and my dad and I filling up our cars, it never would have fit in 1 trip. The only time I actually yelled was when we got to my brand new house. The movers were trying to go so fast that they were literally banging stuff into the walls. I asked them to be careful and then the next minute the lead guy is carrying 2 chairs and banged into 2 different walls. I yelled and they were more careful after that. If you're a college kid or your furniture wasn't very expensive, then maybe I would recommend. If you have things that were expensive or you really like, don't use them. They were the "cheap option" that ended up not being that cheap.”

So we booked for their service for around the end of May. Pros - they were fast replying the booking - movers seemed to know what they doing - flexible when asked about changing last minute appointments and did not charge any fee for it Cons - they did not finish their job very, I've only discovered that my bed are not properly screwed, some parts are missing which resulted in bad collapsed when I tried to move later. I am very disappointed and I wish it was something they could have told me if they couldn't put them back together and now I have to look for parts that are missing! - My apple tv also missing but I have not found out until much later due to my busy schedule. I have no intention accusing them because I haven't asked them for it as I mentioned I have not been looking for until much later. I believe that if they are seeing it somewhere in their truck then they should have let me know. They are the one that detached/uninstall my apple tv from my tv and I believed I put it one of the box that were opened at that time. You o this date I still couldn't find it and I did not know how we miss it! I give them benefit of a doubt here because I should be more responsible about it. - When I was setting up my initial appointment I was asked for three movers, then I rescheduled and I was not being told or inform that they will be only two. It makes the moving delayed and I wish we were told before that.”

I tipped well as they made sure to take care in wrapping my bedroom set as requested but I can't deny the undertone of misogyny in my conversations with the lead mover James who introduced himself to me as "John", yet neither are his real name. When we arrived at my new landings which I shared were short term that I am sharing with roommates as I prepare to buy my house. He began to share critical points of view on neighborhoods where homes all look the same and are right on top of one another. I spoke on how much I love my neighborhood here in Kingstowne, Alexandria and he questioned that as if he was unimpressed. Then went on to speak about his own "aspirations" to buy a home (in PG County Maryland no less) with an air of superiority in taste as opposed to it being conversational. In hindsight, I should have checked his attitude on the spot but didn't want the confrontation because I saw right through him and knew it wasn't worth it. I only wanted my stuff handled with care and set up right which is what I got but not without a side of slick talk and resentment based on the difference in social class between us. I also believe the SUV I drive played a part in his attitude because it is newer and a higher luxury brand than his. Throughout the experience, the other guy was unusually quiet but I respect that. It seems to me that "John" might have a problem with controlling his mouth and rubbing women the wrong way.”

Hire James and DMV Movers if you want the best rate and a company that earnestly stands by their commitments. I hired DMV Movers for a long-distance move from DC to Kentucky. I contacted dozens of moving agencies and he gave the best rate for a 1 bedroom move: no extra charges for driving time, walking distance to truck, moving up flights of stairs, or wrapping and dissembling furniture. As long as it fit in the cargo trailer, it was all-inclusive! Both James and Delante were friendly and quick with loading and unloading the truck. I budgeted for 3 hrs when we arrived in Kentucky and it was done in less than 1 hr! We did run into an issue where the mattress was damaged during the move (we had a lot of stuff so it was pretty jammed in there). I called James and he reassured me he would make it right, which he did! James handled the issue professionally and quickly - it was resolved within 2 days.
