I chose this company based on all of the excellent reviews they have received from past customers and I only wish I would have been one of them. I'm sure the company is great as a whole (that's why I gave at least 1 star to be fair to the others) but the individual I had to work with left a horrible lasting impression. I had a simple local move of a couple of pieces and after the initial phone call, we established a date to accommodate their schedule, not mine. I was instructed to send him an e-mail with all the details which I did but I didn't get a reply. More than a week later I sent a 2nd e-mail with still no reply. I called the same guy the day we were supposed to move and he told me they have nothing on the books for me but would call me back after reading my week-old e-mail which by the way had the date of the move. I didn't get a call back that morning. I had to contact customer service to make this happen. Once I got the call back later that afternoon from him, he told me the price which had doubled from what I was originally told. When I asked why, he said they have overhead expenses and a 4hr minimum which was never told to me in our first phone call. If this job was too small for them, I wish he would have been honest enough to tell me from the beginning and not inflate the price just to get rid of me.”

The same Manager that impressed upon us we would have a smooth experience in our initial meet cursed at me on the phone multiple times, hung up on me and refused to acknowledge any accountability for our awful experience. In addition to broken furniture, destroyed possessions, damaged walls, the moving truck broke down in our neighborhood for hours. Please do yourself a favor and pick ANY other moving company.”

Would NEVER recommend Charlotte Van and Storage or their parent company, UNIGROUP, comprising both Mayflower and United Moving Companies. Too bad zero stars is not a rating option.Over 75% of my furniture was damaged. We had to salvage an armoire valued at $10,000.00 because of two holes, one 6 inches in diameter, the other 3 inches in diameter, caused by moving group. We had to salvage a beautiful white damask Southwood sofa because of stains and grease marks that could not be removed by cleaners. This sofa left our home completely encased in plastic wrap; it arrived to us with no covering at all and looked as if it had been used regularly for breaks in the movers’ warehouse. A fully wrapped and boxed king mattress and box spring were irreparably damaged. I could go on and on. I paid for FULL VALUE PROTECTION insurance for 12000 lbs of furniture giving me $72,000.00 of coverage. UNIGROUP made the claims process difficult, repetitive and oh so lengthy. One year and 3 months after our move, UNIGROUP finally settled our claim. We had an antique grandfather clock specially packed and crated by Unigroup’s third party packing contractor at extra costs to us. We received the clock and the crating was broken and cracked; our clock face was damaged and wood case was separated and the clock would no longer run. And to top it all, UNIGROUP could NOT find a qualified fine furniture repair person in all of Jacksonville, FL, the largest and most populated metropolitan area in Florida. I ended up finding the appropriate repair person myself effectively doing UNIGROUP’s job for them. Our move was a disaster using Charlotte Van and Storage and Unigroup. I suggest using another moving and storage company.”

These guys were great. From the beginning consultation and estimate to the delivery was a breeze. The estimate was very accurate (within a couple hundred pounds) and was very easy to schedule. The process of the move was a daunting task as it was from coast to coast (Charlotte to San Francisco) but this team managed to make the move simple and professional. HORRIBLE let me tell you if your looking for a moving company this is the worst there is know accountability or responsibility. They charge us for 4 men and on the first day I had one of the young men go inside the cab and sleep for a couple of hours and then the 2 disappeared off and on the only one that new what they where doing was the driver and at one point the driver/loader was bringing things out of the storage bin I asked him where was his crew and he could not give me and answer. I had one young man walking around sucking his thumb (smh) it got to a point my husband started to help remove items and furniture from our storage bin at one point one of they guys was trying to move some of our chairs with a dolly and start to scrap the paint and I had to tell him that you can't use the dolly it was a mess so I called the company and all I got was oh so sorry that you had a bad experience. I requested from the operations manager Dwayne who is so full of his self it's a waste to even talk to him because again no accountability or responsibility that I did not want the same young men to put my furniture in my house and guess what I still got one from the first day oh and do not which I made know to a man named Russ who comes out and checks before they start work at this point we just wanted our furniture in our home second day not so bad but again I made phone calls and had the lady that coordinated out move Susan just keep telling I'll call you back and never did again not responsibility or accountability so out of frustration I asked do I make my complaints to and I was told a Frank Watson (owner) and let me tell you he could care less he called me back just to say he called me he staff took minimal notes about my calls and that's what he stayed with oh and then went on to say we finished in less time then we projected but the behavior of his workers where know concern and I had to remind him that my husband and even myself where helping because these where not professionals they kid movers that work in the warehouse AGAIN KNOW ACCOUNTABILITY OR RESPONSIBILITY KNOW CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH THIS COMPANY.”
