Having the floors refinished throughout the house means essentially "moving" for a week or two. Our flooring contractor recommended Careful Movers without reservation so we called for a quote, which we quickly received. The quote was well-detailed. There is a four-hour minimum charge. Careful Movers has supplies, packing boxes, which we purchased and they delivered well ahead of "Moving Day." Four movers arrived this morning at 8:00AM as promised, toured the house, discussed strategy and "special items", and got immediately to work. By 10:00AM, the house was empty, even the piano delivered to our son's home. When the floor is finished, we'll be happy to see them again. The final bill for the work was exactly as quoted. The crew were all very hard workers, jovial, respectful, and, as the company's name implies, "Careful Movers." And here's the followup, moving back in: Careful Movers moved us out, and now back own. This is a follow-up to a move on November 6m when we had Careful Movers pack nearly out entire house into a POD in our driveway so that our hardwood floors could be refinished. As with the first experience, this time it went smoothly, quickly, and efficiently. The move took only a couple of hours for the four workers to empty the POD and put everything in place in each room. Because the floors were freshly refinished, they took care to cover the walkways with runners to guard against damage. It will take us much more time to empty the multitude of boxes! We definitely recommend Careful Movers.”

Among many times of moving from place to place in the Bay Area, we have been through multiple moving companies. All were either mediocre or even bad. I had issues with other companies with them not being on time, took way too long, poor customer service, broken furniture, etc. With Careful Movers, we had no issues whatsoever. From the initial phone call for quoting to the last box moved, Careful movers did a more than phenomenal job moving our personal belongings. My wife and I hired Careful Movers three times: once to unload our moving truck when we moved to California, a second time when we moved from one city to another city in California, and a third time when we moved out of California. I own a 113-yr-old Steinway piano that is notoriously difficult to move (even compared with other pianos). It has a cast-iron frame and the weight distribution is uneven, both top to bottom and front to back. It also has a rounded bottom, which makes it severely difficult to balance while rolling it on a dolly. This is the only moving company which has been able to move this piano with ease. One of the Careful Movers, Enrique, figured out a way to balance the piano on the dolly (using the wheel cups as wedges), and three or four different professional piano movers we had used before could not figure out how to do this. While previous movers struggled and cursed trying to move it, and constantly had to keep a man or two to hold the piano up, the Careful Movers crew was able to roll it on a dolly as if it was just any old piano. Enrique and his crew fit the piano into a room in our new place that I honestly did not think would be a possibility. I am a little worried that the next moving company we hire (since we are no longer near Careful Movers) will not be as good and won't be able to get it out. There are a few other items we own that were on the difficult side for normal professional moving companies to deal with. Nothing terribly unusual (aside from the piano), but just normal difficult stuff. I think the difference with Careful Movers is that they just look at each piece as a puzzle to solve and come up with a creative way to handle it, and they share their solution with you so that you can have an easier move the next time. That alone is worth something. The quoted estimate was the same as the actual cost of each move (no hidden costs). Anthony and his team were great about communicating with me in advance of the move and even fulfilled my request to have the same crew that had moved us before (I only requested this because of the piano), though he was also very clear with me that he couldn't guarantee the same crew. Additionally, they have always been friendly and professional, and this time around were COVID-safe (wearing masks at all times, even though they are doing heavy lifting. There were no scratches or dents in any of our possessions. They always show up on time and are down to business right away. I would recommend these guys to anyone in the SF Bay area whether you're moving to or away. Especially if you have a piano!”

They are very careful with fragile stuff but they broke a spoon and TAPED it. The amount of extra paper they used is ridiculous and it fills 3 medium size boxes. I paid for appliances to disconnect and reconnect but they didn't reconnect, that wasn't a nice surprise. They also lost a brand new sous vide. I gave them extra tips to get rid of some old shelves and they left one behind a door. They also didn't account for the fridge, garden stuff and one other furniture so at the end it wouldn't fit, they had to come back and charge me more. They also round up a lot, on they worked hours and then they try to be nice at compensating the extra hour value but in the end they charged me a total one and a half extra hours. They were also half an hour late on the first day (packing). They were all very friendly, so two stars.”
