When the 4 guys first showed up to our old house in NOVEMBER (FIVE MONTHS AGO), I thought they were efficient and seemingly careful with our belongings. The owner had told my fiancé while scheduling, that the movers were financially responsible for any damage, so they would treat our things as if their own. PLS READ TO END - Especially if you are a woman. I am capitalizing IN RESPONSE to the owner's reply accusing me again of LYING as he incorrectly referred to numerous statements... They were moving so fast, I couldn't see everything. The 8.23 mi move took SEVERAL (three) trips. AFTER THE FIRST TRIP (APPROX 1 HR), the supervisor left. I was assured he would be back shortly. For the majority of the day, I had three movers - PAYING FOR FOUR. A fourth showed up somewhere during the final unload. It was chaos. They were coming in so fast, there was no time to say where to put anything. It was a mess. The final piece of furniture was dropped on the wall, damaging it. We were willing to let that go.Everything else was blocked with boxes, we could not even see our refrigerator. In hindsight, maybe this was strategic. The move cost $2000 and we were kind enough to tip $300 BASED ON FAITH THAT THERE WAS NO MAJOR DAMAGE (after being told most people tipped around 20%). However, I soon regretted it, both paying cash and tipping. My newer large black stainless steel refrigerator, had a minor scuff on the front from a prior move and two distinct counter level scratches on the side. When it went out the door to be loaded, I watched. It was not wrapped. My fiancé and son were at the new house when it arrived, still unwrapped. When I was able to clear the boxes the next day, I was livid. It was scratched all over, and dented in several places! The finish was completely rubbed off at the top where straps must have been. The freezer drawer looked like it came off a junkyard relic. YET THE OWNER REFUSED ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANYTHING BUT THE DRAWER. My king size sleigh bed footboard, was also damaged - a huge scuff and gouge right in the middle top, immediately visible and impossible to hide. Our spare bed (new), also had a huge gouge. There was other random damage as well. When we contacted the owner, Joe, he was immediately on the offensive, saying we just have too much stuff for our new house and denying any liability. Then he claimed the refrigerator was already damaged so they had no responsibility, BUT reluctantly agreed to come over and look at the damage himself, setting a time. He knew my fiancé is an OTR truck driver, and would not be home, just me. Over an hour early, there was a loud banging on the door. When I opened it, four of the movers immediately came inside, led by the one who disappeared early in our move. THE SAME MOVERS WHO WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE DAMAGE. He immediately became aggressive in his tone, telling me that I am NOT getting a new fridge out of this, which we did not ask for. He said they have NEVER damaged a refrigerator in 20 years. He would not listen at all. I was surrounded in my house by four large men and very intimidated. I think they thought I was alone, but my adult autistic son was hiding nearby listening. The man repeatedly demanded that we ALL saw it wrapped being loaded and unloaded. But it was NOT wrapped loaded - I SAW that...and it was NOT wrapped unloaded - my son and fiancé SAW that. I am not one to back down from an altercation, but I have never been bullied like that - scared in my own home! I called my fiancé and had him talk the man. Remember, this man was NOT EVEN THERE when the fridge was moved! He called me a liar, as he lied. We settled for a pittance for the fridge, $172 was all he would pay TO REPLACE THE DRAWER FRONT ONLY (MINUS $75 SHIPPING) - REFUSING TO ACCEPT ANY LIABILITY FOR THE REST OF THE FRIDGE DAMAGE. The other drawer is still dented and the entire front scratched. They accepted responsibility for the bed. but never sent the repairman promised. Maybe we were the exception, or maybe the others were too afraid to complain. After all, they know where you live.”
