It is a well-known fact that moving is expensive. However, any move can be planned in detail and stages. Of course, the process of moving can’t go without unforeseen situations, but in general, you can predict almost everything. As professionals, we are ready to tell you how to prepare for the move and plan your moving budget. Our experienced moving consultants are always eager to share advice on how to collect and pack things properly. We got feedback from our satisfied customers who moved a lot and often: among them, there are those who have more than 10 moves on their account-alone, with a family of four and toddlers. The result is a detailed instruction that will help you get through the move without any problems and stress and, of course, will tell how to save on a move.
Choosing the most comfortable, and what is more important the correct date from the moving point of view may save you money. You should remember that the date is one of the factors that positively affect the cost of moving. Try to avoid holidays and weekends, as well as the summer period. But moving during these days is also real when booking in advance. If you have children who are in school you should also consider their stress. You may make a choice in favor of your family but remember that you will have to pay extra from your budget.
One of the main reasons for hiring a moving company is the complexity and scale of the upcoming move. If you understand that you won’t cope with all the moving issues alone you better rely on professionals who have experience and equipment. With reliable movers and packers, everything will go fast, safe, and smooth. But how to make the right choice and save money? If you don’t want to be disappointed and grieve about your favorite broken plates give yourself some extra time for checking everything. Ask your friends about their experience or read reviews from https://www.yelp.com/. Compare moving quotes and check services moving companies provide you with, clarify whether these services are included in a final bill or you should pay extra from your budget. Moving long-distance or relocating heavy items or expensive valuables can be tricky. That is why you should prepare your moving budget before hiring a reliable moving company.
Start sorting your items into three categories: keep, sell, and donate. Don’t be afraid to part with things that you haven’t used for a long time. Well, in addition, in a new place, you will have a chance to furnish everything in a new way. You can give something useful to your friends or even donate things or furniture in good condition for the shelter. A garage sale can be a perfect reason to clean up and even earn money and increase your moving budget. Gaining popularity in recent years, smartphone moving apps like LetGo, 5miles, Poshmark, or OfferUp make it easy to find, buy, and sell pre-owned items in your local area before a move.
Relocation costs are one thing that most people are concerned about. You should be prepared to spend money on buying or renting a new home (including deposits), utility deposits, movers and moving services purchasing moving supplies and repair expenses. We suggest you decide which purchases should be made first after moving and what you can live without for the first time. For example, you can’t live without a dining table but it’s quite ok to live without a carpet you have dreamt for some months. You can also pack yourself and save, but remember to prepare carefully by reading tips or hacks.
Since there are a lot of moving issues, your children risk being neglected. Even worse if you start to stress from the piled up in one day to do things. Perhaps you should leave the children with their grandparents for a while, or hire a babysitter. We have some additional tips on how to reduce tension when moving with children. Pets are also very sensitive to changes. Read the article on how to move with pets.
ALLEN KENDRICK, 23, student
I plan all the moves in advance, about a month in advance. So I take my unused items to my parents ‘ garage.
I usually pack the bulk of things and dishes in boxes, do not greedy paper and fabric for fragile items. I put overall things in large construction bags made of polyethylene. Furniture and appliances are almost always carried by movers but I cover them with sheets and blankets to avoid chipping and cuts.
First of all I try to sleep in a clean apartment, where everything is put on its places. I accompany the process with my fav music and food. I do the dusting, clean refrigerator, wash the floors. Then I sort out the food, unpack dishes, cups, and cutlery. Proceed with the living room. And at last – the bathroom.
Try to plan everything beforehand. Mark and label all the boxes. And don’t be shy to ask for help.

When I moved to California from Mexico I donated, sold a lot of things, sent some most memorable to my parents, and took only two suitcases with me. It is a good idea to take a minimum and fly light into a new life.
To be honest, I leave my belongings unpacked. First, I take a shower, then go to the nearest cafe to cheer up, taste some new cuisine, and enjoy the vibe. Then I stroll a bit and only after I am in the mood to start sorting things out and putting “my own order” in order.
I think moving is perfect for getting rid of unnecessary things. And Yes, I do not recommend moving on your own or by car. At least, this personal experience wasn’t successful and turned into complete discomfort.
SOFI PORTLAND, 32, a young mother
First of all, don’t be nervous. Plan everything in advance. For example, my husband arrived in NY first, and only in a few weeks my daughter and I came together. It was easier and the apartment was a bit lived-in.
Keep the child involved in a play or interest he/she prefers. Give him/her any package with things and complete freedom of action. Or plan the prep process during afternoon sleep. I advise you not to bring all your things at once — at first only for one season. And I personally prefer to purchase new furniture for children, so there is no use in moving the old ones.
First of all, I sort out the child’s things and put them in their places. Then I continue with bedding. What a relief you can eat out for a few days! I hope you got it, the kitchen is the last to unpack after moving.
