Moving is never easy! Everyone who had ever been involved into a move will tell you it might turn into a nightmare unless you plan and organise it properly. If youe are not an expert mover you will need some expert help or at least some expert advice which we at moving-me.com are happy to share with you.
When moving you need to think about so many things, and one othe most important issues is money, of course. Everybody wants to save. The best way to budget your move is to know exactly what money goes where. And that can be quite tricky when you get to know that moving companies measure your move differently? The question is rhetorical. Weight or cubic feet? Understanding is crucial if you don’t want to be overcharged. Correct measuring the size of your move will help you to understand what size of a moving truck you need to order. Another question is which type of estimate to trust? Some claim weight-based estimates are a scam, some don’t trust cubic footage based estimates. So, we are here for you to find out.
The practice of calculating your move based on cubic feet is illegal in many states as it’s much easier for a moving company to overcharge you. Most legitimate movers charge based on the shipment’s weight. One more thing a trustworthy mover will know and esure the customers is the list of regulations and restrictions connected with the COVID-19 outbreak. A reliable mover will not expose their client’s health to any kind of risk.
The moving industry standard is quoting moves in terms of the weight of your shipment. Let us explain how does it work. First, the empty moving truck is weighed before the loading. Then, after loading all of your items the moving company representatives reweigh the truck. The difference is the true weight of your move. The weight-based estimates can be verified by the Department of Transportation (DOT).
If you have a binding estimate the final price will be based on the inventory list. This option is the most popular among customers as your price is fixed. That means that the total cost will not change even if the actual measurement differs from the first one you talked about. A non-binding estimate means the truck will be weighed and the final cost will be the total weight multiplied by the cost-per-pound. You are the only one to choose.
When applied to a particular specified material under defined conditions, the cubic foot thus ceases to be a unit of volume and becomes a unit of quantity. Commercial storage providers generally describe the moving storage units in terms of cubic feet. The cubic foot is used to describe the capacity of a container to hold items.
Cubic foot = length x width x height divided by 1728
Example = 25″x 25″ x 25″ then divide by 1728 = 9cuft
Most cubit feet companies offer binding estimates. So even if the actual measurement is more or less than the one you originally talked about you still have a fixed price for your shipment. Don’t hesitate and contact us if you don’t understand anything and our representative will explain all the details.
Remember, a rogue mover will find ways to overcharge you regardless of the way they estimate your move. Hiring a reputable moving company is the only way to save your nerves and money! A good mover will properly check your quote and provide you with all the details that may increase the cost of your move. We are here for you to prevent and minimize the client’s disappointment. Posted at 11:28h, 02 SeptemberOnce the sales rep has added up the total cubic feet of your shipment he/she applies an indstry standard of 7 pounds per cubic feet to compute your shipment’s estimated weight. For example, 2,000 cubic feet @ 7 pounds per cubic foot equals a 14,000 pound estimated weight.
