Most people know how to pack your belongings for the move: for clothes, small items, or even electronics they are not very complicated and based on common sense mostly. That involves using their original packing if possible, and some hacks on having your furniture appropriately protected. But the most difficult is to save your valuables. Their high cost makes them genuinely worrisome. You need to create a plan to prevent your valuables from getting lost including taking pictures of them before you pack them to go. Here are some valuable tips that will ensure the safety of your priceless items. This article reveals how to move valuables including packing furniture, collectives, antiques. You can also trust us in choosing the best moving company near you to take good care of your belongings.
Your inventory must include all the items that you consider valuable. Note each valuable item that you put in a specific pouch or select box. If possible take a photograph of each so that you will be able to establish its condition before you move. If anything happened or if they get lost along the way, you have photographic proof to show your insurance company about its condition. Be sure to keep the original receipts of the items. It may be needed by the insurance company, or the mover to settle your claim if they are destroyed or missing.
Everything that is transported by a professional mover should be covered by insurance as protection from damage or loss. This is a requirement by the federal government which all movers have to follow. Some movers offer an extra guarantee for valuable items to tempt customers. So you should take advantage of their offers for the sake of your valuables.
If you have a heavy and valuable item such as a piano or an antique chandelier you will need a dolly or wooden crates to relocate them. Some movers don’t have the necessary equipment. They will contract out that job to companies which specialize in transporting such kinds of special items. So, take time to check if the moving company that you are going to pick handles your valuable things.
Moving professionals usually concentrate on transporting household items such as furniture, beds, kitchen staff. They could, of course, carry your pieces of jewelry if you request them to, but that’s not their specialty. For such items, it is better that you take care of them yourself. Moreover, professional movers usually recommend their customers to keep their valuables with them and not to entrust them to a third party.
It is good to save the original packing boxes of expensive electronic items such a large screen flat-screen TVs. But if you have thrown that box long ago, you need to buy a special flat-screen TV box with padding to keep the screen safe. The box might be a bit expensive, but it’s worth it. It is much cheaper than buying a new $1,000 TV if damage. Don’t skimp.
You need to cover your plates individually with old newspapers and then pack them in boxes side by side and not one on top of the other. This will cause additional strength to the set of plates inside the box. They will be more resistant to any sudden attack coming from any direction. For other glass-packing tips refer to our packing guide here.
To safeguard anything made of glass such as large picture frames, mirrors, and similar things, place a large X made of masking or painter’s tape. This is similar to the ‘X’s that you see in window shops when they are still under construction or are being cleaned. The tape preserves the glass from shattering.
One of the ways to safely protect fragile items inside a box is to ensure that they are all fitted together. There shouldn’t be any wiggling spaces that will cause the things inside to shift when flicked. You cannot prevent sudden movement of the truck while running, so, your only option is to provide appropriate protection by ensuring that all your breakables are tightly packed inside their boxes.
With all that said there is one more thing, you should take care of. To ensure the safety of your belongings or, if need be, to prove your point with the insurance company, you absolutely need to take photos of your belongings, especially the valuable ones.
No matter if your move is a planned one or spontaneous, you have to make sure you avoid breakage and loss as much as possible. In the above named happened, be prepared to deal with your moving company on the reimbursement issues. And that is when you need to prove your words of any cracks, scratches, or chipped corners on your furniture.
Even if you were able to arrange NO-Contact Move that is becoming very popular these days, do not neglect the idea of taking pictures before, during, and at the end of your move. The reasons for taking pictures when moving might be obvious, but they are worth repeating. Accidents are real even in case your movers are highly experienced professionals. Better to be prepared, so you may be appropriately compensated for damage if that occurs. Here are some ideas on what needs to be photoed and how.
Go around your house and take photos of everything you consider relevant. All the antiques, fragile furniture, expensive gadgets, breakables and anything else you think would be difficult and expensive to fix. Then your photos will prove that the item was damaged during the move. You can prove that you’ll be eligible for proper reimbursement by your moving company providing photos you have taken before. You should also take pictures of any existing damage to your belongings when moving out. It is important as the damages can be added to the existing when handling. By the way, did you know that there are apps for moving that will help you keep yourself organized from start to finish of your move?
If you were renting an apartment and you are getting ready to move out now. Clean the area thoroughly and take many photos of your rented apartment or home before you move. Try to fix any damage you may have caused during your stay there. You better take a picture of that as well. Taking pictures of your rented apartment before the move can help you to avoid issues with the landlord and guarantee your deposit back.
It is necessary to take detailed pictures of any damage that you manage to find before bringing your boxes and unpacking. It may help you avoid unfair accusations with your landlord later on.
Take some pictures of the way your electronic devices are wired up when moving. That hack will help you to save your time re-connecting the electronic devices after the move is ready. Just take several photos, then disconnect the cables and pack the photos in one bag near that device.

Posted at 21:59h, 09 JulyAll plates are to be packed up and down in the box and not flat because if the box is dropped your plates will break. Professional knows. Have a book to write what’s in the box with a number on box. Boxes are stollen when things are shown on boxes. With a number on box …you know if a box is missing.

Posted at 12:20h, 27 JulyI found a good way to know what cabinets and drawers have been emptied is by placing a piece of washi tape on the empty drawer or door. Saved loads of headaches. Where do you get that paper for the glasses? I just used newspaper and would have loved the other.
