Edited to add: Both my dresser and desk arrived heavily damaged. The top of my dresser had nearly been ripped off and hangs on by a few nails and my desk drawers are skewed and falling off as well. Still, no accommodations by shipsmart. It would have been cheaper and quicker to order and have all new furniture delivered to my new apartment. I had a small move picked up from CT going to D.C., and was told by phone it would take 2-3 weeks. During that time, I called incessantly because no phone operator could reach the mysterious warehouse where my furniture was stored. It took 4 weeks to hear anything, when I had to pay nearly $1000 more than the quote in order to have my items finally shipped. I was given a 10% off code from a larger moving company that recommended Shipsmart to me, but that only applies to the shipping cost, not the total weight, so I only "saved" about $100. I have been in my apartment for 3 weeks without furniture, still calling to find out which warehouse in the country my things are. I finally heard from a moving company in the DC area that has my items and set up a delivery date for their earliest time of another 2 weeks. In total, I will be without my furniture for 7 weeks with no communication between me and Shipsmart, nor seemingly between Shipsmart and the moving companies it hires. Shipsmart is a pointless company that only moves your items around between reputable moving companies under the guise that it saves you time and money. Cut out the middle man next time and either contact a moving company, not a packing and shipping company like Shipsmart, or rent a UHaul or Pod yourself.

I used Shipsmart to move several large inherited items from California to Boston and Alabama, only because they appeared to be the only company that handled this type of small long-distance move. Because they don't have much competition, they appear to be able to get away with poor service and tracking. Shipsmart did not track my shipment carefully, and was not able to assess where damage to my items occurred. An antique chest arrived with a leg ripped off. Several boxes of books and toys were torn open and items missing and damaged. My items were not on their original palette when they arrived -- and Shipsmart never informed me why they had been separated. This company subcontracts with small moving and shipping services at your place of pickup and delivery. They do not exert good control over those subcontracted services. My cross-country shipment took almost 4 months, and their only excuse was that they (ie: their subcontractors) were busy and it was around the holiday season. I filed a claim with the insurance they offered for this move, but the insurance provider did not pay the claim. Shipsmart eventually sent me a check to cover the damages, after I persisted with my complaints. With this company, you need to be persistent and ask a lot of questions if your shipment is delayed or damaged. This was not an easy move.

I would give zero stars if possible. I'm in the process of reporting this company to the Better Busses Bureau for deceptive practices. They are a HORRIBLE company. They do not deserve a dime of your money. They will tell you one thing and then try to extort further money out of you. They will not adhere to an agreed upon delivery schedule. You’ll be lucky if you get your things a month after the date they give you and when you do get your things they will most likely be damaged. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS. Watch out for Mike especially, he is the most dishonest sales rep I have ever dealt with.

If you are looking for a moving company whose goal is providing quality service at a great price, look no further than ShipSmart. We have had two successful moves with ShipSmart, and can not be more pleased with their care of our belongings and accommodation on moving dates and always responding to calls and emails immediately. Our moves from Northern to Southern California were easy especially since they had on record our moving boxes and furniture from our first move so they were so helpful to ensure all our moving needs were met the second time around. Best moving company!

This moving company is by FAR the worst I’ve ever used. They told me my items would ship on a specific date then said it would be 6 days later. Their response was, your contract says, “there are no guarantees.” So much for customer service. The person on the phone was dismissive and unhelpful.

They moved me from Portland to Miami. Everything went smooth, their communication was great and the cost was reasonable. It took a little over 3 weeks to get my stuff and it arrived just as it had left. Bravo!

I just recently moved a small amount from Houston to Chicago. The initial sales call was pretty quick and they emailed me some documents to fill out to move forward. Once I decided to use them after calling around for a while, I was picked up within a few days. After about a week, week and a half they called and told me everything was ready to be shipped. The cost was a bit more but I had them take more so I was expecting a little increase. After i paid, everything was shipped and a few days later my stuff was dropped off in my garage. I elected to do the unpacking to save the money. Anyway, I would recommend them and definitely use them for my next move.

Comments: I wanted to thank Ship Smart for helping make my daughter’s relocation easier. The company was professional, kind, and helpful. Too often we take the time to write a review of complaint, so I wanted to make sure I could relate how pleased we were with the way this company handled everything for us. If I need help moving in the future, you can be sure I will use this company. Lynne Barrett

So, I will make this simple - They quote you on the min weight, when they know that all items will weigh more and price doubles - They sent two people for a three man job without any tools etc... - They broke the dining room table and try to cover it up - They lost a box and there is no recourse You tell me. They aren't good.

Although the movers who came to my house to pickup my shipment were professional, I would never recommend this company. After they picked up my boxes, and had them enroute, they leveled another $900 charge on me for delivery "we do not have the greatest coverage for your area." Watch out for them as their extra charges add up very quickly!

Poor customer service after they lost part of the shipment Due to downsizing I shipped a family heirloom antique china hutch with roll top desk to my brother to keep it in the family. It was 2 pieces plus 2 shelves. I paid an extra $634 to have "inside delivery" because my brother was not able to unload himself. The shelves did not arrive. I called the company and was told they would contact the delivery crew to search and call me back (they did not call). A week later the second call, was told the warehouse would be searched and would call back (no call back). 6 days later I got an email "we have exhausted our search and they have not been located. At this point we would suggest filing a claim with your insurance. I will have the claim instructions forwarded to you right away." A day later I received another email with lengthy instructions on what I had to do for an insurance claim including the following: "we will require labeled photos of the damaged items and repair estimates to be submitted directly" to them. How do I photo missing shelves? I have no idea where to find an antique restoration company that will give me an estimate to fabricate duplicate shelves. I called today and both people that sent the email messages (claims manager and customer service manager) were out for the day. I begged the person that answered the phone to renew the search of the truck that did the pick up at my home, the warehouse where it was crated and the delivery and pleaded for a return call - not another email. This process has been unnecessarily stressful and frustrating.

The movers from Shipsmart damaged my property and refused to pay for the repairs despite the fact that they admitted in writing that the damage was caused due to their negligence. I had to hire a lawyer and start legal procedures. The person on the receiving end had to fight with the company every step of the way as they wanted to hike up the price by $1000 once they had the furniture in their possession. This practice seems consistent with other complaints I found on the internet. Shipsmart is the worst company both of us have ever dealt with and is totally untrustworthy in our experience. They make excuses for everything and do not accept responsibility.

I would rate this company a zero out of five. They promise everything, deliver very little, perhaps nothing. I have been waiting 3 months to get my shipment delivered, and I do not know when or if they will ever do so. They told me I would have 2 packers, they sent one, they said they would have a palette for my grandmother's glass cabinet, but they did not bring one, then they said they would do it at the warehouse. What if it brakes on the drive from Kings Mountain,NC to Charlotte, NC? They could care less it would see. They said my shipment would arrive in the Costa Rican port July 4, but it arrived the 12th or later apparently. Now they say it is farther than they thought to deliver it from the port to my house (I paid $1900 for it, they did not say the price could change at their whim and cost more). Now I have to pay $541.27 or they won't release my deceased parent's belongings that I have inherited, with all the cherished and irreplaceable memories that go with them. I know what goes around comes around, and I suppose that is some comfort, but I do find their treatment of their belongings very disrespectful in so many ways. NEVER USE SHIPSMART, YOU'LL BE MISERABLE!!!

We can't thank the entire SmartShip team enough. From start to finish and every bit in between, everyone made the entire process stress-free and seamless. Carley at the beginning for helping the process get started, and along the way when Rosa was away; Rosa along the way with setting up the order, Nick (the pick up attendant in Vancouver), Robert with the payments and the gentleman at the end who delivered the shipment in Haymarket (our apologies for not catching his name). The professionalism and courtesy was outstanding. The timing worked out perfectly for our plans and price was lower than any other quote from a great number of other companies. We highly recommend SmartShip if it fits your shipping needs as you will not be disappointed.

My aunt recently passed away in Sacramento, CA. I wanted to have some of her furniture shipped to me in Alabama but every mover I called wanted to charge me an exorbitant amount. I finally called ShipSmart and you cannot imagine how happy I am that I did that. They gave me a fair and equitable price, came right out to my aunt’s home, expertly packed the pieces I wanted and shipped them to Fairhope, Alabama. The furniture arrived in tip top shape. The fellow delivering the furniture was professional and friendly. All in all it was an A plus experience. I would totally recommend ShipSmart. They’re the best! Jane in Alabama

I recently used Ship Smart’s professional services to transport a family heirloom - the 60+ yr old front door from my childhood home! Ship Smart picked up the door in Hudson, MA and delivered it to my front door in Henderson, NV. The door arrived completely packaged in bubble wrap and in perfect condition. From scheduling, to pick-up and delivery - working with Ship Smart was a first-class experience. I highly recommend Ship Smart - they are TOPS in my opinion!

I have used this company a few times over the last few years and am just now getting around to posting a review for them. I only had about 20 boxes to move and a bicycle my daughter could not let go of and that is how I found them originally. They advertised as a smaller shipper type of deal. I talked to the girl then, who is STILL my contact now. Patricia. She was and has been helpful with all of my small weird things I order or ship from here to there and everywhere ( I am in design so I move odd things often) Plus I am super picky and from the East Coast so I have been called rude or impatient, but never by her she gets it! Thank you to Ship Smart and I recommend you guys all the time!

I needed a company to move a few prized furniture items from a family home in the Washington, DC suburbs to Brooklyn, NY. The big national moving companies weren't interested in small moves and their prices were very high. Some of these larger companies wouldn't even consider smaller moves. I'm so glad I eventually chose Ship Smart. Everything went so smoothly at all stages, the furniture was packaged really well, handled beautifully and delivery was perfect. The delivery people unwrapped everything and they took away all the packaging. Perfect service. My Ship Smart agent provided great communication at all stages of the shipment. It was well worth the cost. I would not hesitate to highly recommend Ship Smart to anyone and to use the service myself again.

ShipSmart moved our family grandfather's clock across the country. The staff efficiently and carefully wrapped it and shipped it for us. It arrived safely; the staff unpacked it and set it up in its new home. All of its parts were intact. I am very pleased with the attention and care given to this heirloom. Peggy Walton, Baltimore, MD

I'm in a last-minute move situation due to domestic abuse. I was referred here and told they could help me get things handled quickly. It took 5 days for them to get an estimate to me, with me contacting them daily to have to make changes. They failed to add expedited shipping and other charges, estimated items I didn't have, missed items I did have etc. I'm only now being told after paying that it will take a month for my things to be delivered to my new address, after contacting them specifically for the faster service. I've spoken with a different person on the phone each time, and have yet to see any promises made to me see fruition. If you're the victim of domestic abuse and need to get out quickly, this is NOT the company you want to use. Currently scrambling to try and find something else and hoping I don't eat too much of the cost if I use someone else and cancel this shipment. You guys really let me down. I was out of time from the start but the length of this process both on your ability to get an estimate to me and to get my items to me have set me back. I felt extremely rushed when paying, knowing I NEEDED to get this done quickly but the reoccurring issues on your end really made this process a lot harder and longer than I had hoped. So disappointed and will not be using you again or recommending to friends or family.

I booked ShipSMart to move my belongings from Chicago, Illinois to Victoria, British Columbia. I called them on a Thursday to book and they were able to fit me into their schedule for the next day, first pick up of the day. The entire process was seamless and easy. They came into my apartment to pick up all of my boxes, I didn't have to lift a finger. Everyone in the office was extremely easy to deal with and everything made it to Canada without any issues. ShipSmart advised me on how to correctly complete my customs paperwork and the price was very reasonable considering the service of moving a palette of items from the US to Canada. Everything arrived in one piece and nothing was broken. I would highly recommend this company for long-distance moves or if like me, you have to book a move from the US to Canada.

A couple of takeaways I have learned from using ShipSmart: 1. estimates are low-balled and based on weight, I was charged $700 more than my estimate because of weight and 2. communication is non-existent, I had to proactively call every time I wanted a basic update or confirmation. Also I was given a lot of misinformation with customer service reps making excuses every step of the way on why my delivery was delayed (took a little over 4 weeks from pickup to delivery to receive my belongings). The real kicker is that my cheap $80 nightstand was packaged in a heavy wooden crate (contributing to going over the est. weight) without my consent. The delivery guys unpacking my boxes basically told me that it was overboard and unnecessary. Third and final tip from me is to package your own furniture if possible OR if you have something super valuable, then they will 100% go overboard for your valuables.

My daughter needed to move from Santa Barbara back to New York in early April. She had to leave before all of her things were packed. We relied on a roommate and ShipSmart to do the right thing. Then due to Covid we were unable to meet the truck in NY. I called and they offered to hold her things as long as necessary. They even matched the price of our storage unit so we didn’t have to pay even more. I was concerned about her items being there so long and have heard horror stories about damaged and missing items. When we called to give them the date they could arrive (July 8) they expedited the delivery. I was amazed at the FABULOUS packing job they did. Two pallets beautifully packed. They even wrote on the fragile items what they were (mirror etc). Communication with the company was easy and that they respected our Covid circumstances made me feel like I was dealing with people not just a business. A special shout out to Emily! They went above and beyond from beginning to end. I would totally recommend ShipSmart and will use them again if we need a moving company.

I was originally quoted for around $1600. The estimated weight seemed really low so I called to tell them it would be more weight. I also realized I had forgotten to include a few items so I then called again to add items to my list of inventory. They made it seem like it was no big deal and it would be an easy fix at the end. When I got my actual bill it was $4700! A HUGE difference from my original $1600 quote. I was told it was because I had a more than expected weight... which I completely understand and is why I called to add things to my inventory. A difference of $3,100 is absurd. They gave me a great sticker price, had me sign a contract, and then screwed me over by an obscene final bill. This move was unexpected as my father passed away and I was having to move out his apartment to a storage unit. I wish I had done my homework beforehand a $4700 moving bill is not something I can afford... but if you can't afford it they charge you $75 a WEEK to keep your items in their storage. I was not pleased with the customer service either as they seemed very annoyed that I found this final bill a ridiculous cost. Be very careful if you choose to use shipsmart and expect a major difference in your final bill. Complete scam and very disappointed.

My move was a 1 bedroom work apartment from California to the Midwest. I had purchased all furniture in the apartment new 2 years ago, and 99% of the time I was the only one in the apartment —-so everything was in brand new condition. I went with Shipsmart based on their initial low (scam) quote and the fact that when you were on hold with them they touted the fact that they specialize in small moves, and had moved art museums, fine art, and even NASA. Clearly that was a load of marketing BS, as your items will not be treated like fine art in any way. They contract everything out to partner companies, so to my knowledge the only Shipsmart employees I dealt with were people on the phone who provided the “estimate“. ultimately, nearly everything I moved had scratches, dings or dirt on it. I was upset and shocked, as I really thought they might be a quality alternative. The biggest scam is the insurance. Be sure and read the fine print, because there is a $1000 deductible. and of course on move-in, you’re so frantic that you don’t notice all of the damage… the dings, dents, scratches. And at that point it’s too late to claim that they did the damage when you one hundred percent know that they did, but with a $1000 deductible, if they did $1500 worth of damage you only get $500 , as an example— in my case I paid $150 for their worthless insurance. What really gets me is the obvious lack of care they took handling my furniture. The couch had been banged around and had dents in the frame and worn spots on the material, but not so much that I could claim it needed replaced... one small ($300) end table I had was very damaged, and when I think of that end table I think “how in the world did this company move NASA or an art museum?”. my mattress, which I bought a heavy duty (not just standard) sealed mattress bag for was ripped, and the mattress soiled. An area rug which had been rolled up with a cinch strap, had been refolded by Shipsmart, and was crumpled and dirty, i’m still trying to get it to lay flat and hope it isn’t permanently damaged— which also means I’m still waiting—- five days later —-to put furniture on it. if I had it to do over again, I would have definitely gone with a bigger professional moving company— from the estimates I received the cost would’ve been about the same, but again, I trusted shipsmart‘s marketing nonsense on being a small-move professional
