Moving-Me about One Big Man & One Big Truck
The company provides local moving services, that includes: a confirmation email with your rates, and the date and time your move is scheduled; a clean 26 foot, 24 foot, 18 foot, 16 foot truck, or cargo van; free use of quilted moving pads and plastic wrap; free use of wardrobe boxes for hanging clothes; a brand new mattress bag; a television box upon request (up to 70″); disassembly and reassembly of furniture (if needed); packing, uUnpacking, & crating. The company’s base fee can vary depending on distance moved. The base fee is a one-time set-up fee that helps to defray the cost of getting the crew from their office to the job site and back afterward. It also covers fuel expense, and truck maintenance.

They were able to complete my 1 bedroom move with two guys in a little under 4 hours. They're not cheap, but you really do get what you pay for. My movers were Mario and Jose, and they were awesome. They handled all my requests during the move without pause, took great care wrapping and protecting my vintage furniture, and you can tell they make a lot of effort to make sure the movers are using techniques to minimize injury as well. Professional, timely, and quick! I cannot even begin to express how absolutely amazing One Big Man and One Big Truck was for our move, but I'm going to try... First and foremost, as everyone knows, moving sucks and it's expensive. We initially looked at several moving companies, and while OBM was slightly pricier per hour, it was well worth the price and service. Also, they didn't double book or cancel on us (grr, to those other movers we'd originally booked, so yeah, go with OBM because they genuinely know what they're doing AND they're organized). Here are some high-level points as to WHY you should go with OBM: - OBM was easy to contact while booking. Their pricing model was easy to understand and they sent over a datasheet for us to fill regarding our furniture. This made it easy for them to see what size of truck to get for us, and how many folks to come and help us. - For us, they got us a super large truck and 3 folks to help us. - They were flexible with our two apartments - one of which was a no stairs move with an elevator use, and the other was a 1-floor walk-up. - When they moved us in to our new place, I was SHOCKED at how fast they unloaded everything! For example, the guys carried the clothing wardrobe on their backs - like a backpack, and they even carried 3-4 boxes at a time like that too! It was CRAZY amazing. They were so coordinated, and they used straps - not dolly's/hand trucks - to get it up the stairs. Overall, guys, I was so shocked at how great OBM was. First, we did a 2 bedroom move in 5 hours TOTAL - including a lunch break. Second, they were extremely polite while we moved on such a hot day with bad air quality. PS, remember to tip!”

Yesterday, I hired 2 movers from this company to load a U haul. The process before the move was good - upon booking I was promptly sent a confirmation and inventory form to fill out which is the only reason why this isn't a 1 star review. On the day of the move, the movers were 15 minutes late, which normally wouldn't be a huge deal, but there was a full 2 hour arrival window which they missed. Loading my already packed small studio took a full 2 hours and 15 minutes. I've moved several times in the past few years and that job should have easily taken most professional movers about an hour if not less. Not only did the job take longer than expected, but the truck was loaded horribly - there was no thought given to putting big items in first, large pieces put in at odd angles, overall a complete mishmash. They also damaged my bookcase when removing a door and scratched my floor with my dresser. Overall, I'm out $500 for a bad service that was late and took longer than it should. I would definitely look elsewhere for moving services next time.”

One of the movers took my patio furniture without letting me know. I saw it in their truck. I asked the furniture to be thrown out. I also gave them a tip. That same mover asked me if I wanted my rug to be laid out instead of kept rolled up in the plastic. WTF question is that? They were significantly late, slow, loud and damaged some of our items. Late- they were about 1hr behind Slow- they took their sweet time to move everything one. by. one Loud- obnoxiously loud throughout the loading and unloading Damaged items- they didnt care that the larger, heavier items crushed the lighter, smaller items. No rhyme or rhythm, just everything in. I've moved many times in my life and this is probably the worst experience I've had. I wont be back.”

We appreciated the level of detail upfront in the scheduling call and the inventory list they had you fill out. A few days before the move, they called to re-confirm the move and also run through our inventory list and give us a few pointers (remove bulbs from lamps, tape cardboard over mirror, etc.) which were very helpful. On the day of, Daniel, Bruce and the team were total pros. They were extremely fast, well coordinated, and clearly experienced. They were super careful with all of our stuff - not a single bump during the process and no dings on any of our walls or stuff.
