“ If i could leave zero stars, I would. In summary: we paid $1725 to have movers that showed up late, berated us about the quality/quantity of our furniture, talked down to us, and refused to take certain items (somewhat arbitrarily?) which they then presented as a favor to us. Also, there was a 3% credit card processing fee no one informed us about until 11PM after an exhausting day, when we were expected to sign a contract and pay up. Long story: we set up a moving date 2-3 weeks prior to move our small two bedroom apartment into another small 3 bedroom apartment, 5 miles down the road. We received several texts reminding us we were moving. We read all of the fine print on the deposit (which we paid online). 3 hours before we were supposed to move, Octopus asked us for a photo of our belongings-- presumably, to send a correctly sized truck. We sent it. 40 minutes before the movers arrived, they sent a reply. They would not be able to take open boxes or bags-- would not even carry them downstairs for us to load into our car-- and they didn't want to take any glassware (fish tanks, in our case). We had informed them up front about the need to move a large tank-- it was part of why we hired movers at all. When they actually got there, they did agree to take the large tank (which we needed! for our pet snake to live in!) but refused to take the two smaller fish tanks. Why? We just don't know. We had to figure those out for ourselves. While I can understand, in hindsight, why they don't want to be responsible for open boxes/bags/fragile items-- they had every opportunity to communicate that requirement for closed boxes, and didn't. They had every opportunity to tell us that we were only allowed one (?) fragile item. They didn't. And, after we frantically closed as many boxes as possible... the moving team was an hour late. The movers themselves were... fine. They were careful with our stuff, didn't break anything, and didn't damage anything. They did, however, add a third helper at the very end of the day, which bumped our bill up-- but it was presented as though we had no choice in the matter. They also definitely had opinions about our belongings, and how we had too much stuff, and that some of our furniture was rickety and that we should just trash it, and what furniture we should put in what room (when we were unloading), and also really wanted to use an empty room in the new place to stack all the boxes. When I told them no, we had my two scared cats in that room, they were pretty insistent. I had to really stand my ground to get them to put the boxes in the kitchen/living room, and not the room with two (already nervous) cats. Come the end of the day, we were informed that they wanted us to pay cash. As this was supposed to be a $1500 job, we had planned to pay by credit. We were not informed until all of our things had been moved, at the end of an exhausting day (5 car trips of those open-top boxes we had to carry ourselves!) that there would be a 3% credit card processing charge. Oh, and that final bill? Was $150 over the maximum ($1500) we had been quoted. At least they offered to take some old furniture off our hands for the low price of $150 (though, I can't really complain, I desperately wanted to be rid of it). So. That's the long and short of it. I don't recommend this company at all-- you're honestly better off carrying your own stuff, with the rates they charge and the service they provide.”
