★★★☆☆
As movers, these guys are great. They came prepared, worked tirelessly. They didn’t waste anytime and moved things pretty fast. The job took only an hour longer than expected. (Which is fine since I do have a decent amount of things to move). They were even upfront that, understandably, they would be taking a short lunch break on the road. They still made it to the destination before I did. Everything was moved with care. No damaged items. Movers were respectful, professional & followed the health guidelines and always wore a mask. As a business, couldn't say the same. You get hit by a lot of unexpected fees. I was originally given a quote of 125$/h for 2 movers & 165$/h for 3. The 3 mover option was recommended by the company after discussing the large inventory to be moved on the phone (this discussion is recoded and documented). The gas was estimated at 45$ each way, so 90$. The shrink-wraps were quoted at 35$ (per what, that wasn’t clear). I was given a quote of 50$ to mount/dismount the TV. There is a big lack of transparency and communication. Come the moving day. One of the guys calls in sick, two guys show up and all of a sudden I am given a rate of 150$/h. Try to reach the owner, no answer (have screenshots of call history). I have no choice but to go ahead and try to clarify things later on since my lease is ending. As mentioned above, the move itself went smoothly and was completed in a reasonable amount of time. So far so good, until you receive the final bill. You realize not only the original quoted rate jumped to 150$ from 125$/h, the gas charge is 150$ instead of 90$ and the assembly fee is 75$ instead of 50$. They squeezed every last bit of charge they can. Plus I am charged 150$ for shrink wrap. I am still not sure how this was calculated but doesn’t seem right for the few pieces of furniture they wrapped. The round trip was around 100 miles so I am not sure where that gas price came from either. I try to clarify this situation with the owner. I ask about the change in hourly rate and I get the response “No. That’s our student” rate. As soon as I tell him, I indeed am a student, the story the changes to “that’s our special rate for Harvard”. Directly copying from the transcription of our recorded conversation: “Yeah that’s our special rate for Harvard. It was on our website for a while. I think BU is in that too" You think? The owner isn’t sure about what schools they offer a discount to? As for the website part, the owner says this without noticing that public websites are archived and you can see what a website looked like on any given day in the past 20 years. You can easily confirm how much of this is true. He continues to say that, there was a miscommunication and that he has it in his notes that I was a Harvard student. Per the recorded conversation, I haven’t even uttered the word “Harvard” once. If there was a misunderstanding, it was on their side, and they should own it. He later “met me in the middle” at 145$/h. The movers didn’t have the tools to mount the TV, yet I was still charged half the assembly fee (37.5$) for the dismounting which was helping me lift the TV from the mount and put it in a box. I unscrewed the mount from the wall and boxed it myself. I was also called a liar for telling him I tried to call, until the owner realized his calls have been going to spam. The final tally initially was 500$ over the estimate because of these unexpected charges and last minute changes to the advertised fee, after speaking to the owner and him “meeting me halfway”, it was 300$ over. I choose Nick’s as they seemed to be more affordable than other options. Turns out they weren’t. In all fairness, they aren’t more expensive either. It just would be nice to have an idea of what’s to come up front. The bottom line is, you can trust them with your belongings. They will move them with care and diligence. However if you hire them make sure you have boxed, padded and wrapped every bit of your furniture yourself and that the only thing they do is pick up the boxes, load em up and drop them off.

We just moved recently to a new house, the staff was extremely helpful and professional, they know what they are doing, they took care of everything for us, they made moving seem easy. They were wearing masks at all time and kept Their distance. They were shockingly very fast, the whole move took them 5 hours which is not bad at all ! They were on time And very friendly and followed the directions we gave them. When we arrived at the new house they took a quick scan to get familiar to the house then i stood on the entrance door and direct each person where to go with the boxes they have. It was really great and i was stress free. Nicks will be my go to for my next move for sure.

These guys will break, damage, and/or lose all of your stuff. Nick moved me out of an apartment, stored my things for 3 months, and when I got my delivery, multiple important items were water damaged, broken, or simply didn’t show up. In fact, the moment they showed up (3+ hrs late), the first boxes they unloaded weren’t mine, they threw them on the street, and manage to break a bunch of things that weren’t mine. In the several weeks since, Nick has done little to figure out how to get me my remaining things or compensate for the extensive water damage.

Horrible Experience. Initially the experience was great, booking was easy and straight forward. I was quoted a 3hr minimum charge for the day because my move was taking place September 1st, which is the busiest moving day of the year in Cambridge/Somerville. I was booked for 8:30 AM (with a half-an-hour leeway to account for traffic etc. so 9AM was agreed upon as acceptable). I also paid ahead of time as was requested to do for that day. I checked a week or so before the move to confirm the date and time of 8:30AM on 9/1/20 and it was confirmed. The day of the move around 9AM, I call the owner and ask for an estimated ETA for my pickup since they hadn't arrived yet. I was then told to expect them to arrive by noon because of sanitizing the trucks etc (this was not our original agreed upon time-frame and I stated so on the phone). I gave them the benefit of the doubt because of covid etc. At around 11:15 I call again asking for an update because I still had not received notification of when they would be coming, however the owner was unable to give me an update and gave the excuses of covid and traffic due to it being a busy moving day. I call again around noon because still nothing and I'm insistent on an updated ETA. Owner states he cannot give me an update because he hasn't heard from his guys. It's close to 1PM now and I call AGAIN to get an update because I have still heard nothing (even though during the previous conversation the owner said he would text me with an update). On this phone call the owner reveals to me that my pickup was supposed to be the first pickup of the day however only stated that he was unsure why his guys hadn't put my pickup first on the schedule. No resolution, no apology, only a patronizing comment thanking me for my patience. Around 1:45 PM the truck finally arrives at my apartment, with a 10 minute notice and at this point I was in Somerville moving stuff myself because I didn't know if they would show up at all. The move took less than an hour to load my stuff, drive to Somerville, and then unload it. The move itself was fine, the guys were courteous and helpful (which is the only reason there are two starts instead of one). The next day with my evidence of an agreed upon start time and a photograph of the paperwork that stated the actual time, I requested to the owner a partial refund because at least four hours were wasted in waiting for them to move me and I lost money because I could have been worked in that time instead of guessing when they would show up. The owner refused. Even if it is the busiest moving day of the year, there are no excuses for being at least four hours late for a job. Traffic, Covid regulations and timing should all be figured out by a PROFESSIONAL company, but instead the blame was deferred to other matters rather than their own mistakes. For being an expensive move with a minimum built in (which should already be the buffer for it being a busy day), I am extremely disappointed with the customer service and will not be using this company again. I recommend to defer to other companies in the area before going to Nick's.
