I joked earlier that this review would just say I love you I love you I love you I love you. But it's true- I love Jerry and the team from McGuire's that came and moved my stuff today. Being in my 30s, I decided that I was going to hire professionals instead of trying to ply my friends with pizza and for my first move in the city- I was moving from a place that I lived since I first moved to SF four and a half years ago. So clearly I have moved to San Francisco but until today had not moved IN San Francisco. And I did my research- I read a lot of yelp reviews, I called around and talked to a LOT of companies that seemed like they didn't need or want my business. But from my first phone contact with McGuire's, I felt immense RELIEF. San Franciscans know that finding a place to live is stress inducing enough (I really did loose hair in the awful Criagslist search of 2014) and then to find movers that were professional and reasonably priced? It seemed impossible. Until McGuire's. The woman who set me up on the phone was lovely, accurate and reassuring. I got the promised confirmation phone call 24 hours in advance. And on moving day Jerry and his guys were a godsend. Fast, friendly, and without any damage to any of my stuff. And the rate was UNBELIEVABLY reasonable ($96/hour gets you a couple of guys and a truck which is easily the best deal I found in the city) they were done in 2 hours and forty five minutes. That includes taking apart and putting a bed together. So, short story? I would use McGuire's services again in a heartbeat. And so should you.”

Gerry and his crew came to the rescue! My friend needed to move out quickly so that her real estate agent could get her house cleaned and staged for an open house in less than a week.. We had a POD in the driveway and a 3-bedroom house to try to stuff into it. Gerry looked everything over and told us this move would actually require TWO PODS (OMG, did we really have THAT MUCH STUFF? Why, yes, after ten years in the same place, we did!) Gerry immediately went to work getting things packed up and into the POD in just a few hours, while we negotiated for 45 minutes with the POD people to come and pick up the POD and replace it with another one. It was like the "White Tornado" went through the place. McGuire Movers returned two days later and finished the job for us. Couldn't be happier and recommend unconditionally. We will definitely hire them again in thirty days for the other end of the move to the coast!”

If you need moving services, look no further than McGuire Movers. I was scheduled to move with another company, but when they showed up, those movers told me that one of them was allergic to cat hair. I drove to Lowe's and bought them gloves and masks. But, they decided that I should reschedule with men who were not allergic. The company manager told me it was my fault. Needless to say, I didn't reschedule, but I called McGuire Movers. Laura, in the office, was wonderful and sympathetic. It was too late to move that day, but she arranged for Jerry, Miguel, and Eduardio to come first thing the next day. For some reason, my credit card didn't go through. I offered to go to the bank and get cash, but Jerry said I had a good vibe and accepted my check. I love these guys! The best part was the move was 1/2 of what the first company was going to charge me. This was really the icing on the cake. I don't anticipate moving in the near future, but I plan on referring McGuire Movers to all my friends and acquaintances. Hire the best: McGuire Movers!”

Really horrible service. I wish I could give 0 star. I was bringing my own truck so I took their services to move stuff from my truck to my apartment. I took 2 hour of services where two guys came in at 12.08 and at 1.19 they said their time is over!!! Really? How good are you with math? The lady who I booked with specially said that the time starts from the apartment door when they arrive, but those guys disagreed.. They also dropped open two boxes on the street!! Left their own van in middle of street asking me to keep an eye on it?? Even though my apartment had an elevator, these ppl were definitely incapable of moving stuff, one skinny guy and one fat dude. When I asked them to help with assembling my furniture, they were very reluctant, I had to pretty much do most of it myself. Will never take their service again. I would have rather done it myself.”

This move was a shorter distance compared to last year, but oh dear god, the amount of stuff we had accumulated was just incredible!! This review is about my experience with this company in October 2013. The person who I talked to on the phone was nice. However, the movers were not. I was told on the phone that the movers would put the clothes from my closet into big boxes. Not true, the movers said they did not do that. They complaint the elevator was too far. but I only had a queen size bed, a sofa, a night stand, a dresser, a dining table and 4 hairs, and several boxes for them to move. My new home was only 5 or 6 miles from my old apartment, but the movers asked me to drive slowly in front of them because they did not know how to get there. I think they actually wanted to add extra time (extra money) on the job. They ended up using up the time that was recommended to me on the phone without moving my clothes. At the end they told me to wrote down in the paperwork that their service was excellent. I was too busy to argue with them. I would not use them. Those movers were awful!”

Jeri and McGuire Movers provided a professional, friendly, and stress free moving experience! I had previously set up time with a terrible moving company who cancelled last minute. I found McGuire Movers online and was able to book a last minute appointment on a Friday, and they fit me into their busy Saturday schedule right away. Two incredibly friendly Irish men (one of whom was Jerry) arrived punctually and got right to work that morning. They packed everything very orderly and protected the mattress with a cover and my fragile items securely. They placed all my furniture exactly where I wanted it and even moved a few things around after I changed my mind. All the while cracking jokes and making the whole experience really fun about stories about Ireland and their interest in India. I would definitely choose McGuire Mover again when I move! Amazing group of people! Everything about my move with McGuire Movers was pleasant from scheduling the move on the phone with Laura to the actual move with Gerry and Frank. Laura answered all my questions about scheduling and what was included and how billing would occur. On the day of the move, the guys arrived on time, worked efficiently, disassembled and wrapped my furniture, drove straight to my new place, unloaded, unwrapped and reassembled all of my furniture (at no extra charge) and put everything where it needed to go -- they even helped me move large things like a king bed around the room to get it just right! They were careful not to scratch walls or floors or get the carpets dirty. The hourly rate was reasonable and cheaper than other companies I called. There were no hidden fees for fuel, disassembly/reassembly, wrapping (even a large mirror), or other equipment. The whole crew was very nice to me and careful with my things as though they were their own things. I couldn't be happier with this company! I am so glad I went with them!”

The McGuire crew were great to work with and I would recommend them. I was in a small 5th-floor studio in a building downtown with a cramped and slow elevator, not an easy situation to get furniture out of. So the move was a bigger effort than I had estimated, but the McGuire guys worked patiently and methodically to get my stuff out. I have used larger corporate moving companies in the past, but I went with McGuire because they are local. I got just as good service but less formal and friendlier, which made the day less stressful. Since I did not have a car downtown, the guys gave me a ride bringing the stuff over to Bernal Heights, and placed everything where I needed it to go in the new pad. Happy customer.”

I used these guys this weekend, and I would not recommend them. The day before my move, I called them to confirm (because no one called me), and it took them 10 mins to "find my reservation." I had a 2 hour window to fill 2 zip cubes (Zip cubes are awesome btw), and they showed up 40mins late. No one called me to say they were running late. I called the office and asked where they were, and they just said "on the way." Then they showed up, and no one apologized they just said - "oh, have you been waiting long, haha" - like my time was joke. They quoted me $95/hr for 2 guys. 4 guys showed up and it took them 40mins to load my cubes. They then charged me for 2 hours, because "if it had been 2 guys they would have taken 2 hours." Well, it wasn't 2 guys and it took you 40mins. Even if we doubled that it would only be 1hr 20mins! Then one of the guys took a dump in my bathroom which stunk up my whole house for the rest of the morning...I wish I was making this up. It was the cherry on top of an unpleasant morning.”

I just moved from the Marina to the Mission and these guys were excellent. I found them on Yelp after doing a thorough comb of several pages worth of movers (and there are MANY on here...) I was pretty leery of all the movers with super high star ratings, en masse, and wondered how they could all have so many. After reading an increasing amount of testimonies that the companies gave discounts for good reviews, I removed all of them as contenders and focused on more realistic "small business- type moving companies. With 30-some-odd reviews, all thoughtful and genuine, I decided to call McGuire as one of the quotes. (I got quotes from 4 companies.) Their rates are SUPER reasonable, and they're helpful and quick on the phone. They're flexible on timing, came exactly on time on a Sunday morning, and got everything done very quickly. Even though we agreed to 2 men at a rate of $96 an hour, they came with 4 men to get the job done quicker (as they had a few other jobs the same day) and charged only $144 an hour for all 4 men. They moved me very quickly, and were great about breaking down my furniture and rebuilding it, no complaints about stairs, no nickel and diming. Everybody was polite and courteous and worked very hard. I'd absolutely work with Jerry and his merry movers again! He asked me nicely at the end whether I was a "Yelp Person," meaning, did I use Yelp to decide on them? And would I also write a review since they didn't do any advertising? I told him I gladly would-- it's true that Yelp reviews make a difference for folks like me, and I wanted to be as honest and thorough about my experience for Jerry as I could.”

"I love moving," said no one. I contacted several companies and McGuire was the only one that started charging when they arrived to my house, not at the starting point from their warehouse. I also liked that they responded to my quote request on the same day and very quick on email when I needed clarification. I was able to book within 30 mins after receiving the quote. Even though our move date changed several times and we ended up having to stop at a 3rd location. The movers were super polite and hard working. For anyone complaining about a two hour minimum, that's a common practice for a moving company. If you are looking to move a few boxes a couple blocks away, try Task Rabbit or Lugg.”

Maybe these guys are great movers, but I'll never know. They called to reschedule me three days before the move. Yes, we scheduled it for Easter Sunday, and I respect that people might want to have the day off, but two weeks prior, they said they could do it. "Are you sure?" I asked. Plenty of businesses work on Easter Sunday, so I didn't think it was too crazy that they said OK. We set a time, and I was looking forward to working with them. But trying to reschedule to another day with three days' notice after I'd already planned everything out is unacceptable. When I pointed this out to the woman who called me, she guilt-tripped me hard: "Well, I *guess* we could do it, but the movers really want to be with their families that day." You should have thought of that before agreeing. It's a shame, because I really did want to spend my moving money with a local business. Thankfully, I found Shannon/Rogue movers, who could do it on short notice.”

I wouldn't warn anyone away from McGuire but we had an uneven experience, namely due to their the speed with which they can provide insurance coverage. We were told it could take up to two weeks to provide the insurance certificate needed to move into our building, which unfortunately was more time than we had to work with. I wouldn't fault McGuire for this but it's something that can reasonably be done in 1-2 days with most movers, so it was a disadvantage of the 'family business' feel of McGuire that I otherwise was a fan of. At the 11th hour McGuire ended up referring us to another business who did a good job. I found McGuire to be trustworthy and wouldn't hesitate to use them in the future, but for people needing an insurance certificate and working on a compressed timeline, you might want to look elsewhere. No complaints otherwise though.”

I'm bummed to write this review but was really disappointed with what happened since I had used McGuire Movers my previous move. What I learned is that McGuire Movers will only move you if it's worth their while. The first time I booked them, I had booked with my roommate-to-be and we both utilized their services for the same day to complete two different moves into the same unit. The experience was fine for me and moderate for my roommate as she had a few broken furniture, cookware and household items. They were still the first movers I thought of when I was ready to move again so I called them (I like to be a loyal customer if I have a positive experience). I booked my move two weeks in advance and was told that mid-month was very slow for them and they'd be happy to do it and would call me the day before to confirm. The day before comes and no call, so by the afternoon I start calling them. I left about two messages and no response, so stressing out cause my move day was the next day and it was not something that could be rescheduled, I finally get a hold of someone late that night after multiple calls and they confirmed that the movers would be there bright and early by 9 am. 8:45 am - Move Day I get a phone call saying the truck broke down on the way and they couldn't make it, but that they'd call around and find someone for me. The movers they found charged me $30 more an hour and neither McGuire Movers nor the movers that they replaced themselves with would honor the price that I had booked with McGuire Movers despite the fact that McGuire Movers was the one who put me in this position in the first place. The new movers showed up around noon, charged extra fees on top of what I was already getting charged, but at the moment I was just relieved the move happened although I was fuming on the inside about having to pay so much more for such a quick move. Later that afternoon I got a call from McGuire Movers. They apologized for being a no-show and asked if everything was okay (I appreciated this) but were not willing to do anything about the higher fees I incurred at their fault. And here's the kicker--the excuse for NOT moving me changed from the truck not operating to someone's mom not doing well? Furthermore the story I was told earlier of where the truck broke down changed twice from "it broke down on the road to your apartment" to "it didn't start at the warehouse." I learned my lesson. Don't use the cheap guys unless you're moving your entire house, cause they won't be there on move day. You guys could have just said you couldn't do it or didn't want to do it in the first place and I would have found someone else in advance instead of leaving me stressed with a giant bill for a basic move. PS - The movers that did show up were hot, but they broke some of my things. Wasn't worth it.”
