Mayflower Moving Reviews

★☆☆☆☆
Unfortunately Mayflower has been awful to work with. A cross country move is stressful enough as it is, but the fact that they are now more than a week late, I have had no updates, no communication on when my things will arrive, and their website keeps saying July 1st (its July 6th). This isn't a simple move and I understand there might be delays, but the customer should be updated and if need be compensated. You shouldn't be told to just twiddle your thumbs and wait like a good girl all day on the off chance your entire home arrives. This is your entire home, not a random package. It has already been 3 weeks and several delays. I am just appalled at the level of service and complete lack of communication.

Mayflower was doing an awesome job. It gave me a peace of mind. The crewmen were so professional to take care of my furniture and stuff. Mayflower was my second time in 37 years.

Just moved from NY to LA. They charged us for three shipping containers. When the movers arrived in LA, they said themselves that all of our stuff easily could have fit in two containers (they were all half empty). Extremely dishonest and deceitful practice. Also refused to issue any sort of reimbursement and charged us the full amount for the last container. DO NOT USE.

WOW I wish I had read these reviews. I trusted Mayflower because my employer recommended them and I trust their judgement. I would NEVER recommend them to others. Also went with the advice of others who said "even though it's more expensive than others, you pay for what you get with movers." WRONG! Myth debunked. At the end of the day, if you want something done right, do it yourself with some trusted friends. Broken 55" TV that they aren't covering, scratches all over the dining room table, damaged couch, poor customer service.

What a hack. I never give reviews and certainly not negative ones. Do not use this moving company. They completely destroyed my guest bed which was a high quality antique cherry wood bed. Their employees hid the fact they broke it and pocketed the broken bracket. Now I can't fix the bed (these brackets are no longer sold by hardware stores) and all they gave me to try and fix it is $60. I have moved 5 times in the last 3 years. First and last time using Mayflower. I will make sure to never use them again when my company relocates me again. Stay away!

Boer's/Mayflower (Holland Michigan) moved our household from Michigan to California. Everything was packed well and the movers took wonderful care of our furniture. The truck arrived when they said it would and it was unloaded quickly and safely. Thank you Dan Dibble at Boers for the professional service.

We selected Mayflower (they were the middle of 3 cost estimates) to move us from Las Vegas to Olympia WA. It was a big load (we moved from a 2,200-sq-foot house plus a cluttered 3-car garage) that took almost all of the trailer. Most of the stuff arrived fine (although we cringed at how they pack a trailer like a 3-D Tetris game). Our primary complaint: The Vegas crew disassembled a large, glass-topped patio table, and we were instructed to let them assemble it at the destination and to not dare try to handle the big piece of glass. Don't worry, they insisted, we'll re-assemble it. Fast-forward to the destination: A $250 record turntable ended up badly damaged, for which we were reimbursed. A shelf for a wall unit never showed up and we fear it was confused with the next customer's load. Mayflower refused to reimburse us even $10 to go out and buy another shelf. Thirdly, we ended up with the other customer's flat-screen TV. We notified Mayflower immediately because we didn't want to be responsible for it, yet it was weeks before someone from Mayflower fetched it out of our garage. Our biggest complaint: The crew never re-assembled the glass-topped patio table. As they walked out of the house and into the sunset, they announced that they couldn't find the nuts and bolts to reassemble it. They shrugged and said bye. Whoa, really? Obviously we had no idea where the parts were, either. We complained to Mayflower. For several weeks there was no response. Then one day, by sheer luck, we found the missing pieces -- in a Ziplock taped to the bottom of a wheel barrow!! Really? REALLY?!? So we let Mayflower know and asked that a handyman come out to reassemble the table. But they refused. Flat-ass totally refused. At the front end of the move they tell us to not touch the patio table because of the glass, and now they are refusing to deal with it and we're on our own. We listed the unassembled table on our claim (asking for a handyman be hired to come out and assemble it), and were blown off. In other words, you can't count on Mayflower to keep its word. Why they would risk their reputation in order to save hiring a handyman for $100 or so (and the trip was insured no less), totally escapes me. UPDATE: About a week or two after this review was posted, a driver was dispatched by Mayflower to our house, where he quickly, efficiently and cheerfully assembled the glass-topped patio table. Thank you, Chris!

Mayflower helped my family move from Orange county, CA to Savannah, GA and I would recommend them to anyone else looking to move across the country. After taking a quick tour of our house in California, our coordinator Dale was able to give us a quote right then and there. He was able to tell us how our stuff would get packed and shipped and when we would expect to receive our stuff when we moved to Georgia. The actual movers were great and very professional. There were also no hidden fees or "surprises" in our invoice. I highly recommend Mayflower to anyone looking to move!

Terrible company. If you are reading this and looking for a moving company, I cannot say it enough DO NOT USE THEM!!!! My wife and I hired them to move us from California to Louisiana. We purchased full coverage insurance as part of the package. Mayflower picked out stuff up, took it to a warehouse where it sat for two weeks in the heat. They couldn't find a truck driver to bring it to us! On arrival they ruined close to $15,000 worth of items, including a $4,000 mattress. When I filed a claim they came back to me with a settlement of $600???? And now have proceeded to continue arguing with me. It is not worth the hassle! Please DO NOT use them

Broke several pieces of our furniture in ways that I would expect a professional mover to not do. For example, they did not remove the legs from a children's table ($400 at pottery Barn) and they snapped at the joint. We placed a request for repair or compensation. It's been 2 weeks of emailing them and calling to even get them to look at the request... which they are supposed to do with in 48 hours. I am so unimpressed by customer service. We have been living with large broken furniture for 2 weeks and unable to fully move in.

I normally do not leave reviews but my process of finding a mover to move from CA to AZ was very dependent on the reviews so I feel obligated. From the first company contact with Joe Alves, Relocation Specialist, I received timely, courteous attention. Edgar Torres, the driver, was very polite and explained to us what the procedure was and what was needed. Edgar was very knowledgeable, and, fast! Knew exactly what I needed, the care and handling of my belongings, from packing to transporting and did an incredible job of moving my furnitures. I was very pleased with everything, professionalism and knowledge of everyone. Edgar is definitely an asset to your company and will definitely be calling them again if needed. I am very happy with Mayflower/Chipman Relocations and would definitely tell others to use them. Excellent, efficient, caring and great service. Thank you so much for the moving assistance and for making the experience both efficient and friendly.

Loved working with the local office (Fresno.... Linda gets five stars). Pick up went smoothly, delivery however was the problem. The driver's brother was the helper .... tried to slip one by us but got caught. It got ugly from there. Totally unnecessary and could have/should have been avoided.

★★★★★
The move was CA to UT. After interviewing 3 major companies, our obvious choice was Mayflower due to the assurances and coverages offered. Once the sales call was done, we had several questions of the real coordinator, Christine Harper, who was invaluable throughout to delivery. Half of the packing was done by us, the remainder by the Mayflower team the day before loading & transport. Great crews both day. The driver is the person in charge; Sam Woodley was the BEST, cannot say enough good things about his professional demeanor and attention to detail. He inventoried items down to the rake, kept us informed of the process each day. Contacted us the day before delivery (on schedule) and pulled up to our door right on time again. No damage to anything, everything accounted for - Sam made certain. Many thanks!

I had used Mayflower/Sandhills NC before for a local move for my father. They did an incredible job -- moved everything without so much as a scratch, so when I needed to move from NC to Florida, of course I called Mayflower/Sandhills. I wish I could say I received the same wonderful service, but I didn't. I had Mayflower/Sandhills pack my items as well as move them. My desk, my dresser, and my chest of drawers all had scratches (deep scratches) that weren't there before. This is frustrating because the dresser and chest are vintage furniture. One of the glass shelves for my curio cabinet wasn't with the rest and we still can't find it -- so there is a big empty spot where the shelf goes. I don't know what happened to it. Some of the curio cabinet contents were in one box. I've never been able to find the rest of it. Eighty percent of my bone china was packed nicely in one box. The other 20% we still haven't found. I'm afraid they were in a box and got delivered someplace else. Things in two boxes were packed very poorly, with fragile things on the bottom and heavy, bulky items on top of the fragile glass items. I had a broken glass, coffee cup, and coaster set with edges chipped off. They were wrapped in layers of packing paper, but heavy things were put on top of them, which made them crack and break. A floor lamp was broken during unloading (the bottom fell out of it and the weight crumbled when it fell to the concrete), and was "stashed" in the garage. No one mentioned that it broke to me, the homeowner and the person who paid for the move -- they just left the pieces in the garage. I found it as they were leaving and asked about it and was told "that often happens to cheap floor lamps." and that I could fix it myself with duct tape and a brick. I did not feel that was the appropriate response. I don't think I want a floor lamp held together with duct tape and a brick in my living room. I was very disappointed with this move. I had very high expectations based on my past experience, and unfortunately, they were not met.

We were planning our move to Florida and I contacted the three major movers for a quote. Two out of the 3 companies sent an estimator and one wanted to do the inspection via FaceTime. Molloy Bros. / Mayflower sent their estimator Jack. His review of our move was professional and to the point. When our move was delayed a month due to a health issue Molloy had no issues rescheduling our move. Once we were ready Jack came back and re-estimated our move. Molloy also gave us the best deal and a binding estimate. On moving day Dennis and his crew arrived on time and got right to work. The crew took great care of our possessions. Eight days later the contents of our apartment arrived in Florida. The crew in Florida was just as professional as the NY crew. They even placed all the boxes in the appropriate rooms. Upon inspection of our things nothing was broken or amiss. I hope I never have to move again but if I do I'll be sure to contact Molloy Brothers / Mayflower. Highly recommended!

We moved from Indianapolis to Boston using Mayflower. The local Mayflower representative who we spoke with to obtain a quote guaranteed that the movers would take great care with our furniture, pack it into the truck, drive cross-country, unload, and re-assemble our furniture. We checked several reviews online, and decided to go with Mayflower. 1 - The movers were 1 hour late to pack up the truck in Indianapolis. No big deal. 2 - They did not use any care. Several items ended up being broken, scratched, dented, and otherwise damaged. They refuse to work with us to compensate for the damages. 3 - When they were unloading our items in Boston, they absolutely refused to re-assemble any of our furniture. I was told by both Mayflower's corporate office, and their local office representatives, and our Mayflower booking agent, that re-assembly is standard. Yet, they refused to re-assemble any of our furniture, and their response was: "Sorry. That's unusual that the movers wouldn't re-assemble anything for you, but we can't make anyone do anything." Basically telling me that we were screwed. For the amount of money they charged, and level of service they claim, it has been absolutely disgusting service. They should be ashamed of themselves. Don't make the same mistake as me - book with a credible, reliable, moving company. Mayflower is horrible.

Interstate move AL to WA with contract in which Mayflower's own contract promised: "Full Value Replacement Coverage" which states; "Full (Replacement) Value Protection is the most comprehensive plan available for protection of your goods. If any article is lost, destroyed, or damaged while in your mover’s custody, your mover will, at its option, either 1) repair the article to the extent necessary to restore it to the same condition as when it was received by your mover, or pay you for the cost of such repairs; or 2) replace the article with an article of like kind and quality, or pay you for the cost of such replacement." Mayflower contracted to pack/crate certain high value items including a Portoro Super marble tabletop. Mayflower failed to crate any items before moving them. Marble tabletop arrived broken. I made a claim to Mayflower and its parent Unigroup for the broken marble table top. 3 months - no response. I obtained and sent to Mayflower/Unigroup a binding quote from a marble company to (1) replace the marble tabletop with the exact same marble, (2) fabrication to the exact same size (so it would fit the original table base, and (3) shipping to me. Thereafter, Mayflower/Unigroup finally responded stating that they were obtaining other replacement quotes. A month later, Mayflower/Unigroup offered to pay me ONLY 10% of the binding quote for the full value replacement cost I had provided to them. The Mayflower/Unigroup offer was purportedly based upon an appraisal from their appraiser. Mayflower never got any quotes to actually replace the tabletop as promised. Mayflower breached its promise to crate items before moving them and then breached its promise to provide Full Value Replacement. Mayflower did not promise and I did not agree to accept only "appraisal value coverage" or "actual cash value" coverage. Mayflower promises Full Value Replacement coverage for lost/broken items and then tries to cheat its customers by paying less than the replacement cost. DO NOT TRUST MAYFLOWER, DO NOT MOVE WITH MAYFLOWER OR ANY OTHER MOVERS OWNED BY UNIGROUP [Mayflower's parent company that is involved in claims adjustment] - YOU CAN FIND A LIST ON THE INTERNET of all Unigroup owned movers.

I moved from Illinois to Arizona 8/2019. My furniture was to be loaded on site from my residence into storage vaults, it was not. I am told that when the items arrive at the storage warehouse the crew needs their blankets back and they unwrap your furniture. The furniture once pulled for delivery sits unprotected on the warehouse floor for the cross country driver who delivers your goods to re wrap. I ended up with split deliveries that were delayed one and two weeks. All but 4 pieces of furniture were scratched, dented, warped or plain dirty. My front porch Stucco was damaged by careless delivery people. So now it has been 7 months since filing my claim. I am on my second repair firm. The first, Customer Claims, brought things back worse than they left with swirls, mismatched colors, smeared finishes, etc. I have been waiting 8 weeks now for a supervisor to authorize the second repair company to attempt repairs. I keep being reassigned to new adjusters, no one knows who has my case, nothing gets resolved. I was told that the first repair company acknowledged the mess they made and withdrew charges. Nice for UniGroup insurance, but I am left with damaged furniture with no end in sight. They want to offer me appearance adjustments, but many things are only a few years old and everything was well cared for. I packed my own heavy duty, new boxes, one had broken items. My boxes were used as a workbench to elevate my sectional on when it was wrapped. I did pay extra for full value protection with coverage for sets and pairs. My advice, don’t bother moving things you loved.

First of all, they didn’t wear masks or gloves during a PANDEMIC. Second, the bumper came off of my car during the transport and they denied the claim. Shook my husband’s hand! Not supposed to do that during a PANDEMIC. Will never use them again.

We contracted Mayflower / East End Transfer to handle our long distance move from Houston to Indianapolis last year. The gentleman that came to spec out the costs was professional and helpful in laying out our options for insurance, etc. Due to the gap between our two leases, we needed to put our stuff into storage for a week or so to make the timing work. The packers and men that came to pick up the goods were all polite, quick, and competent. So far so good. As we're getting closer to the date when the goods need to be shipped out, there's just dead air in terms of communication. It's only when I contact them regularly that they mention they're still trying to figure out the logistics. It felt like the Seinfeld bit, anybody can take a reservation, the skill is in actually following through with it. This part was handled by Mayflower (I think?) but i point the blame on both companies. At this point, we are in Indy, staying with our friends for much longer than anticipated, and still no word. Finally, they let us know that goods are moving just in time to arrive when we'll be out of the country! After complaining on our part, they agree to again hold the goods at a local warehouse till we get back. After a quick shopping trip to get some vacation clothes, we left and came back. The goods finally arrive! But several pieces of artwork have gone missing, including a limited run piece that I used in my proposal. They compensated us for what I had originally paid, but can't make up for the sentimental value obviously. And it didn't seem like anybody put much effort into actually trying to find the missing pieces. It's my understanding that there's only a handful of companies that do these cross-country moves. If you must entrust them with your belongings, make sure to find alternate transport for the things you actually care about and can't be easily Amazon Prime-d. Seems like that shouldn't be necessary for something that costs so much, but that's how it is.
