We hired JVA when we moved from our apartment into a three story house with lots of stairs. And in the middle of a pandemic last year, during the worst of the smoky summer. I felt so bad for them working hard in these conditions but the guys were rockstars. There were three of them and they lifted all the heavy items and maneuvered all the stairs while making it look easy. They took great care with everything, nothing was damaged and they put everything exactly where we indicated. They were quick but not in a careless way, and they worked tirelessly, rarely stopping to have some water or a snack despite my constant offering. Their prices were very reasonable compared to other places I'd called. They even hauled down a heavy console left upstairs by the previous owners and put it into the garage for us with no extra charge. They were very mindful of not opening the door to the room where my cats were, and always asked if where they were putting things was okay. I hope not to be moving again anytime soon but if I do, I'll be calling JVA again for sure.”

But they got done for our 1 bedroom within the 2 hour limit perfectly for the awesome 2 hour price. They were fast very friendly and professional. Gave them drinks and tipped all workers good because the job well done. They actually arrived a little earlier and called and asked first if it was ok or to wait. Only thing happened was one of my single sofa chair got bent in the back top which was in newer condition, but didn't notice til later. But they had a annoying set of tight windy stairs so can't be 100% perfect. A challenge I give an A- Highly recommend I called 4-5 places that day and they were available close to last minute 2 days prior. And the CHEAPER price w more MOVERS than others!”

So grateful to Matt, Will, Quinn, Chris, and whomever else is behind the scenes at John Volken Academy Movers. Moving from Baltimore to Seattle was stressful enough, when we learned from the City of Kirkland Public Works that we could not have our pods delivered, we were up a creek. Luckily JVAM responded quickly and confidently that they could unpack our household goods from the pods at the shipping terminal and deliver them to our condo. I appreciated their straight-forward billing (per hour, all the packing and tape and stuff included) and they sent three people rather than two. The logistics team was friendly and flexible. The movers, too, were friendly and professional. They jumped through the various hoops our condo HOA set up, and managed our 8-foot couch into our 1-bedroom apartment without complaint. Academy Movers was one of my best experiences with Professional Movers. I've used three different companies. I was working with a very specific timeframe due to my work schedule and only had four days to find a company. They accommodated, were great on their pricing, arrived on time, moved items out of my third floor apartment, loaded, arrived at my new ground floor apartment promptly, unloaded efficiently, and finished before their estimated time. There was no damage to my items or to either apartment. They took special care of my rather large TV and artwork. They followed directions and the only guidance they needed was what to grab and where to put items in the new place. The Moving Crew was personable, friendly, and professional. I'm quite happy with Academy Movers. It was non-stop pouring rain on the day that I moved, it could have ended really badly, yet it didn't, the move was efficient and smooth. They do have a 4 hour minimal time requirement on Saturdays, it turned out just about the right time for my move: half an hour travel time (they do charge the travel time for up to 30 mins because of the relatively low rate), 2 hours packing time, 20 mins travel to my new place, and about 1 hour unpacking time. They disassembled my bed and reassemble it just fine, they moved my really heavy dresser without taking out the drawers, that's really fortunate as my clothes could get really wet due to the rain. The drive way for my new place is really narrow, yet they managed to back in the truck the entire way w/o any trouble, and I think that's quite impressive as the width of the driveway is pretty much the same as the width of the truck. Last but not least, their charge isn't bad at all for 3 men + truck, overall quite happy with it 🙂”

A year ago, we moved house. At that time, I called several movers trying to get a quote on moving our piano. Quotes ranged upwards of $500 for the move. We moved it ourselves. A year later, and we're moving again. This time, my family politely informed me [sarcasm] that they would not be moving the piano again; so I again went looking for a mover. I stumbled across John Volken Academy Movers, the only movers with a 5-star rating. I asked for quotes from them and one other mover, who never replied with a quote. John Volken Academy quoted me $150, and said they could be at our place at 9 am on the day we needed them. Yanko and I had several exchanges via email, and every time he was prompt in answering my questions and giving me the information I needed. My husband was skeptical. A 5-star rating means perfection . . . and he had trouble believing that any mover would be that good. They called when they were on their way to our house. They arrived promptly at 9 am. They introduced themselves to us and shook our hands. We did ease their time by having already moved the piano from the house into the garage (it requires removing doors, among other things), for which they were quite grateful. They then proceeded to have just two of them strap up and move the piano. They had it on the truck in under 10 minutes. They transported it to the new house and had it in place in under an hour. They were immensely professional throughout, quick and efficient. We have since talked about them to several people, including our real estate agent, to whom we recommended them highly. I personally also appreciate the fact that we were helping a non-profit that helps people with addiction recovery; I work in a school with an addiction-recovery program, and I know that the work they do to help people rebuild their lives is incredibly important. I would wholeheartedly recommend this mover to anyone who needs a great, reliable company!”

I contemplated writing this review, but I felt I need to warn others in case something like this happens again. During our move, our leather couch seam had ripped. We didn't make a big deal since the boys worked hard (and accidents happen during a move) and we figured we would resolve it through insurance. We even ordered pizza for the boys and tipped them at the end. When we brought it up to Cameron (manager), he gave us two options- insurance will pay us $170.40 or they will have someone repair the seam. We bought the couch for $3700+tax, so we felt repairing it was the better option. He told us they work with a repairman name Boku. After seeing pics of the damage, Boku advised us that he can re-stitch the couch but it will not be perfect. He also said that if anyone saw the couch, they would not know it's been repaired. Boku came out on scheduled day and went right to work. I was in the same room with him and he did not say anything until he was finished. Imagine my surprise when I walked across the room and saw that he had sloppily glued the seams instead of re-stitching (see pics). He told me this was the only option. When I asked him why he didn't consult with me, he refused to speak to me further and told me to take it up with Cameron since they hired him. I spoke to Cameron and sent him pics of the repair. He was also surprised that the seams had been glued and told me he was going to get back to me. After 9 days, Cameron emailed me saying there was nothing else they can do and we can reach out to the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission for further review. I was misled into thinking our couch was going to be re-stitched and it was not. Had I known they were simply going to glue the seams, I would've refused the repair. Very disappointed at their lack of responsibility for someone they chose to do the repair. Moral of the story- if there is damage, do not have them fix it and go through insurance.”
