International Van Lines Reviews

★☆☆☆☆
Never, ever, ever, use IVL. This is the worst company I have ever worked with. Starting from the beginning: the representative I spoke with during contracting significantly underestimated my belongings. I was quoted for a little over $8,000. Second, my pack up and initial moving was outsourced to a third party company - Y & O Moving in the Bay Area. I knew this would be the case, but had assumed that I would at least get reputable movers. This was not the case. They did not come on the contracted day, and instead came a day late. They then failed to pack up half of my belongings, which I then I had pack myself to give to them. I watched them mis-handled my items, including denting multiple pieces of furniture, and damaging many other items. They then charged me an additional couple hundred dollars, which had not been explained, as the representative from IVL underquoted me. My items were picked up on November 20th. I have gotten no communication when they will be delivered, except that it would be as late as January 3rd. I am currently sleeping on my floor with no way to cook, clean, or anything. I do not have the funds to buy all new items, nor would I want to as my belongings are being shipped. At this point I am considering flying back across the country to retrieve my own items, and drive them myself, as I cannot continue waiting with no updates. The representative I am speaking to now is incredibly rude, and does not seem inclined to provide any sort of customer service other than telling me "I cannot tell you when your items will be delivered". This is incredibly disappointing and unacceptable service. I would highly discourage anyone from ever using International Van Lines.

My move took place in Chicago and was delivered to Seattle within a week. They packed everything for us and did a great job. Everything arrived with no damage, delays or price issues. The rep that helped me Brian, was great. They paid attention to detail and everything went according to plan. I would most likely use them again for a move if needed.

I used IVL for a move from New York, NY to Sunrise, Fl. The movers showed up and worked hard. They packed everything to predefection and I got my goods in a couple days. This is the third time I worked with a mover and by far the best experience I had. I would also like to thank my sales rep Alex. he was great the whole way through

My company contracted IVL for a move from NY to FL. It was for a 6 bedroom home with the works. The movers showed up, went to work and I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. I've had a bad experience in the past with a different mover so i'm happy to stop y and leave a review.

I hired for a long distance move with storage for a few months. To my disappointment, when my belongings arrived, I had multiple pieces broken beyond repair and "lost" items. If you don't buy their insurance, IVL claims they are only legally liable for $.60/lb. So, $18,000 worth of damages and missing items that they only want to pay $1,200 for. They are NOT PROFESSIONAL! You DO NOT get what you pay for. In addition, IVL will add roughly 30% to your quoted amount as they will claim you have more that you tell them.

Lost my items that they packaged, they didn't send movers to unload my stuff at the delivery destination. Extremely rude and useless complains departm I contacted the International Van Lines for a quote. They quoted me $3300 for my move from Boston to Los Angeles. i asked them if they were a broker of if it is their own truck. The person assured me it is their own truck. They said I needed to make sure a large 18 wheeler can park in both pick up and delivery locations. They took 1/3 of the cost up front. On pick up day, some small truck from NY City Movers showed up. They told me the actually company brokered it to them. They did a relatively good job moving my boxes and packaging a couple of my furniture. One of these furniture was a TV cabinet with a built TV mount. They disassembled this and said they would put it back together at the delivery later. I was already unhappy that they showed in a small truck which means my stuff would later need to be unloaded and loaded into a bigger truck for the journey. That's double the stress on my boxes and also I can't see how they do this process whether they simply throw boxes from one truck to another or they give the same care as I watched them. After they loaded everything they said my estimate went up to $5200 and I need to pay half otherwise they can't move. That is a increase. They said I can call the company and complain that the original estimate wasn't created properly. They didn't ask me the right questions to calculate the right cost. Here I feel like this was a bait. They gave me a low estimate so I would agree to their service then once they load everything they can force me for more money. The delivery truck arrived to Los Angeles at 5 Pm at night. No movers in sight. The truck driver started unloading the boxes. It was taking forever, I ended helping him. I would say I unloaded 1/3rd of the stuff myself. He took the payment upfront in cash otherwise he wouldn't unload. So I paid him. At the end, I noticed a part of my TV cabinet which they packed was missing and he didn't assemble it like it was promised. He told me to call the company. I called the company. They are incredibly difficult to get a hold of. I reached a person and they are super rude. They keep telling me they will pay me 60 cents for my claim. Then I said why don't you refund me the money I paid for you to pack my furniture which you lost half and didn't unpack like promised. They keep saying you get 60 cents. And they keep telling me to contact NY City movers which they handed my move to without asking me. I told them I called you for my business I should deal with you. No help. I called their complaint department. She defended the company and 60 cents for my loss. I said why am I calling NY City movers for my complain? I hired you to do my move. She hang up on my face. They should really call themselves gangster movers. If you aren't helping me with the increase in cost and losing my stuff, at lease show some respect and be kind. They are rude. The attitude I got was like we got the money we don't need to talk to you anymore. You are lucky you got what you got. I should have rented a truck and move my stuff myself. I have been treated like this before ever in my life.Oh they also lost (probably stole) my xbox and other things.

I want to say thank you for all your help in my move. The team was extremely professional, cooperative and attentive with all my stuff. The furniture was wrapped in blankets, my fragile stuff was placed in bubble wrap with cardboard, mattresses were wrapped as well. My whole move, that I thought would be full of stress , has been one of the finest events for this year. I would highly recommend them as this was a last min move. I have many health issues and they took all precautions! Great job team

We moved from NY to CA and the whole experience from start to finish was absolutely flawless. IVL packed everything for us, needles to say, the delivery was smooth with no missing or broken stuff. Before the actual moving date, every phone call was greeted quickly with a friendly support person. In short, the price and the personal touch was obvious compare to the bigger players on the field.

We had to move from Bronx, NY to our home town in Bangalore India. We were in talks with about 5-6 overseas movers for almost a month. Finally after much scrutiny we hired IVL. Our relocation was done completed without any hazzle and we are very happy with the services provided. Will certainly recommend them to my NRI friends .

I want to stop by and leave a review for IVL because of the great job they did with our move. My sales rep Mike was awesome. They’re smart, detailed honest and did what they said they would. I had no damage or surprises. I’ve moved before and this was the easiest. Five stars for IVL!!!

Maybe I'm spoiled after moving 10 times with the military but International Van Lines is by far the most incompetent moving company I have worked with in 30 years. Sadly, this was my final move for retirement. They did poorly from start to finish. Sent 3 people to pack out a 5 bedroom house. When they realized they needed help they hired a 3 person local team to augment the pack out. Then they didn't want to pay the new team insisting that they collect from someone else so the new team left. Coincidentally, the majority of the items missing were from the area that the unpaid team had wrapped. By the third day, the team was extremely tired and consequently did a poor job of wrapping. Poor pack out, lost shipment, missing items, partial delivery, extreme damage, and horrible claims service. Once again, I must be spoiled because this company is the most incompetent group I have ever worked with. If you are going to use them remember two things, 1) make sure you have insurance and 2) install cameras around your house to record the pack our but more so to record what actually makes it into the boxes

Mike did a great job overseeing our move to New York. It’s obviously a very challenging time with COVID, however they got the job done and done well. The mover were on time, packed well and did an excellent job. No damage or surprises like Mike told us. I’d use them again and refer them for anyone moving! This was our third move in 8 years and the best so far!

Hands down worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. I caught them in a lie about a “broken down truck” which wasn’t the actual case and once this was uncovered they didn’t respond to multiple emails or phones calls while they had all of our belongings on a truck somewhere and wouldn’t provide us any information. Truck was confirmed to arrive Monday and a one sentence email response said they were sorry they have been on the phone but it will be Wednesday or Thursday with no reason why. They rest on the “our contract says things can change and unfortunately they did” yet again no explanation. Just strange in 24 hours delivery shifted 3 days and not one person in customer service will respond and they lie to a paying customer. It is inherently clear they just want your money and hold your belongings hostage so you are put in a bad spot no matter what. They should be respectful they are carrying a full house of an individuals belonging and it is the right thing both legally and ethically to do to keep their customer updated on where their belongings are but instead they ignore multiple emails and phone calls. Our contact Jill B should be taken of out of her role seeing she is far from a customer service employee. Who knows when our stuff will arrive but I assure you if you want to be updated on your belongings, have a company that’s honest with you and reliable then choose someone else. No idea how they are ranked top 3 but their yelp rating is dead on!

I was very pleased with the outcome of my move. My relocation coordinator Mike was great! Unlike others they weren’t pushy, smart and helped me basically organize my life. Everything got to me with no problems and I was to thank these guys. Mike is a gem and the IVL crews were awesome!!!

Move size - 3 bedroom From: Nashville, TN to: St. Louis, MO Quality: 5 stars International Van Lines handled my move and did well. As a veteran I've moved all over the world and 7 times in the sates alone. I've worked with every major van lines and moving company nationally. I found IVL online after doing a month of research. Their cost seemed reasonable and the sales rep Justin was knowledgeable, so I booked with them. The whole way through I didnt feel any unease, in fact they stayed on top of everything and made sure it went smooth. I was pleased with the overall outcome and will use them again for my next move.

My family moved from Washington to Denver last month with IVL. My move was for a 4 bedroom with a car. My relocation coordinator Mike J. Was awesome! He made us feel very comfortable and walked us through this really stressful process. The move itself went as planned with no hiccups. All was delivered on time and with no issues.

Finally, a company that does what they say. As a military brat my family has moved 12 times with movers. IVL is a DOD approved mover so we have them a shot. My sales guy Mike Jacobs was awesome! He was calm, smart and made recommendations that helped us. Their crew packed our 5 bedroom house in 6 hours and did a great job. Moving is never fun, but at least IVL made the experience good. They get my full recommendation.

Moving as a whole is already a very stressful task. I've contacted International Van Lines in hopes that they will be able to alleviate some of that stress off my hands. What I got instead was probably one of the poorest customer service experiences yet. As a sales person myself, I was appalled at how everything was handled. Let me break down the events pre to post move: Pre move: - My account manager Justin Davis was super responsive, provided my quote, and was able to work with me on getting my quote lowered by a few hundred bucks. - He initially stated that since my 1br apt contained the minimum weight, he was able to get me the best price. - He checked out my apartment locations on Google Maps to ensure an 18 wheeler truck was able to drive and park on my streets with ease to avoid the very expensive shuttle (uHaul) surcharge. He was able to confirm that both my streets (current and new addresses) were able to meet this criteria. - I wanted my items to be delivered as close to the date I get my new keys so he informed me that IVL was going need to pick up my items 10 days out. I agreed. During move: - After paying the $699 booking fee, Justin immediately passed me down to another Account Manager Lisa. - After connecting with Lisa, she surprisingly informed me that Cubic footage, not my total inventory weight. - Moving closer to my scheduled move-out, Lisa then passes me on to another Account Manager, Karen. - Karen was able to confirm my move date & inventory. I ultimately needed to add and remove some inventory after confirmation. I was able to do the former but not the latter due to my latter request being after hours. Annoying but it is what it is. Move day: - I received a call from the moving crew providing me their ETA. They came up to my building with an 18 wheeler. - Upon being handed paperwork, I was surprised to see completely different paperwork from another moving company. I asked the movers why that was & was informed that they were hired out by "Phoenix Moving". They had no clue who/what International Van Lines were. - After some confusion. Karen then informs me that they hire out brokers to perform moves. A rather LARGE detail that was never mentioned to me by any of my 3 account managers. - The movers were very professional and friendly however they did not wear face masks at all. Very concerning during a pandemic. - Fast forward to 1 week later, A new IVL contact now informs me that my stuff is actually scheduled to arrive from 2-21 business days. Another large details that my account managers failed to tell me. - Karen is now completely unresponsive. She no longer replies to emails or voicemails. - 2 weeks later I get an email from the brokerage movers IVL hired informing me that my stuff is on the way. - About 24hrs within my delivery date, I get a call from the broker/dispatch telling me that a shuttle will be required. - After about 3hrs I get another call from the truck driver giving me a completely different shuttle quote from dispatch. He also provides me a myriad of excuses as to why he needed a shuttle to take my items to my street. From not feeling comfortable driving a big rig in my street, to looking at Google Maps and telling me that it's illegal to drive trucks through my street (I'm not sure how one gets that info from Google Maps). I pretty much had no choice but to agree with the shuttle because my items were pretty much at their mercy at this point. - 1 day later my driver arrives with the uHaul he has rented with 2 additional movers, one of whom does not wear a mask. They open up the uHaul and to my shock, almost all of my boxes are completely bent out of shape. He insures me even though the boxes are in horrible shape, my items are probably safe (thankfully they were). The move-in itself took about 2hrs. The movers & the drivers were good at their jobs save for the 1 mover that did not wear a mask. Post move: - I was fortunate almost all my items we're not damaged. A file cabinet and a floor lamp were damaged. - I attempted again to call and email my original Account Manager Justin in attempts to get some things cleared out with no luck. I was completely ghosted by them. - I then get a call from a IVL's claim specialist informing that I would probably not get my money back for the shuttle if I were to write them bad reviews on public forums. She also informed me that it was my fault I did not carefully read the terms even though there was so much misinformation from my multiple account managers. She also asked me why I was complaining about the damaged boxes when the contents were intact... What? I apologize for the long-drawn out review but I really want to warn people before choosing IVL. Read other review sites very carefully, while I don't doubt many have had very satisfactory experiences with them, a lot of the positive reviews appear to be fake as they are written in the same format/style. I do not recommended IVL at all.

I just used IVL to move from the Midwest to Phoenix. Horrible experience to say the least. I was extremely nervous about the move. I researched movers, and found some useful tips online to be weary of, so when I spoke to the sale person on the phone, she was very empathetic and put me at ease. I asked about temp control storage, additional fees upon loading, care for some items, etc. She assured me that IVL was a professional moving company and everything would be treated as such. In addition, I had insurance to cover my belongings in a move through my homeowners, so I didn't add additional insurance through IVL. I mean, what the point to be double insured? When my items arrived, it was obvious by the melted candles and warped furniture that our items were not stored in a temp control facility. We also noticed that multiple boxes were busted open, broken furniture, and were missing items! Needless to say when I made a claim against my insurance, IVL could not tell them how the damages occurred. Therefor the claim was denied and I was told by my insurance company that they do not cover negligence of a company and IVL claims they are only responsible for $.60/lb since we did not purchase their insurance. It just amazes me that IVL call themselves a professional moving company! I just thought I would share my experience with you...

I moved from Austin, Texas to Atlanta, GA last month. As you can imagine it was stressful and daunting with COVID and other things going on. Mike J. Did a great job and had patients with us. Their movers provided full packing and there were no surprises. Everything was delivered within 5 days and without damage. I was very very pleased with IVL. I don’t normally leave reviews but felt obligated in this case. I would use them again and suggest them to anyone moving out of state.

My rep Mike J was very patient, efficient and thorough. I was about to book with another company that was slightly less expensive, but my rep there was pushy and unprofessional. I ended up paying a few hundred more and happy I did. Moving from NY during a pandemic and during this global change I was stressed. They got everything to FL within a week and no problems. I’m not much of a reviewer but they deserve a good rating. Glad I found them!

Well here we sit with our house fully packed waiting for the movers that were to be here between 10 am - 2 pm. They were to call 30-45 minutes before they arrive, it is now 1:51 pm as I write this. Zero call, and we have called them 8x. We have hotels booked as we are moving to another state and literally cannot stay in our current house one more night as the new owners now officially own it. This is the WORST experience I have ever had with a moving company. EVER!!! I highly recommend staying away from this horrible company. Who does to that people?? This is total bs and we wish we would've never went with these people. Thanks for making our move a nightmare!

Liars and thieves that treat their customers like dirt. They are paying for websites to list them as some great company, when really they contract out their work and barely do anything. I wouldn't even recommend them to my worst enemy. We booked them for a cross-country move and all started okay, with our contracted carrier picking up items on time and then letting us know they would be loaded onto a truck that night. The problems started when it came time to get an update on our delivery time. I called and emailed multiple times over 2-3 days, and finally had to call the contracted carrier that picked up our belongings to find our things had not even left yet. Then I found out that the carrier would be closed for a week (which we were never told). AND THEN they altered the revised written binding estimate after our signature to charge us more money upon delivery (we have the copies that show this). LASTLY, they either stole or lost and damaged about $1,000 in items, some of them large and carrier-packed. Throughout the process of communication with them, we were treated horribly. At one point, I was even told that asking a question was irrelevant...when actually it was about recording phone conversations, which they did illegally in violation of the two-party consent law in California (where our initial calls happened), CA Penal Code Section 632. If I were to move again, I would have hired a local company to load a truck I rented, then hired another local company to unload the truck I drove across country. In case you're reading this and thinking maybe about booking them, save yourself nightmares and headaches and just don't.

The. WORST. Moving. Company. Ever. Just completed a 500 mile move of a 4 bedroom house with full packing services. It started with the crew showing up a day and a half late - we had to delay closing on the sale of the house twice during the pack/move process due to the International Van Lines team. The sales team and project manager refused to answer my calls. Customer service never called me back. The Packers were terribly unprofessional from the moment they arrived. They were not only disrespectful to my wife and I, but they trashed our belongings. For example, there were vases packed jammed into boxes with electronics and metal components. Needless to say, many of our things were broken on arrival due to the awful pack job. To be fair, the driver was a good guy and did a good job from the time he drove away with our things to the time they were delivered, things went well, other than the results of the terrible pack and load job on the front end. Additionally, they tried to charge us an extra $3k once the truck was loaded. We had not added a single item since the estimate was done...how could they be off by such a huge margin? I will tell you...scammers. Let me close by saying that we have completed 4 moves with United, and each one was professional and smooth. I only tried International this time due to the ratings and reviews we found in our research earlier this year. Never again.

Ever read reviews that say "If I had the option of zero stars I'd do that." I'll go further: Negative one star. As others have stated, emails go unanswered, phone calls go straight to voicemail. My wife and I booked IVL for a move from Los Angeles to Seattle. We have two vehicles that we contacted with IVL to place on a car transporter. We arranged this two months in advance. One week before the move, I emailed to confirm everything was in place. Here's the reply I got: "Regarding your email, we are working very hard getting carriers to pick up your vehicle. Within the past 4 days, we have had over 20 carriers in CA cancel loads. They're shortage of drivers and now they demanding 3x more money. This is happening all over in the industry. I will keep you updated once I hear from an carrier." A complete, total lie! We called a legitimate auto transporter, Montway, and within a few hours booked both autos for the move--no shortage of drivers, and the price quote was almost identical to IVL's initial quote.

International Van Lines is highly rated so we chose to call them first. This is the 3rd time I had to hire movers and I learned from my last experience not to look for the cheapest price. I’ve been burned by a “low baller” in the past and I was not about to go through that nightmare again. My relocation guy Mike J. Did not try and force me to pay a deposit. He actually spent a lot of time with my husband and myself talking about options and a game plan. IVL Mover’s were nice, polite and did more then we expected. The whole experience could have been very stressful had I picked the wrong mover. Anyhow, the guys did the needful and all went well. I’d like to thank Mike, Lisa and Jason who were all involved. I’d use them again without a doubt.

I felt obligated to post a review for this company, based on what I've read and the stress finding a moving company can cause. Type of move: 1 BR apartment Distance: Long Distance (NJ to WI) I put in my basic information on their website, and was almost immediately contacted by a representative. They asked me what I had to move, and I went through just about every mid-large size item that I had for the estimate. The estimate was very reasonable, and decided to move forward to use them with the full pack option. I mentioned that I had a lease that started on May 1st, and I would like to have everything delivered as close to that date as possible. They recommended that I should be packed up 10 days before that (luckily I had family in that area, so this wasn't too much of an issue at all). I got a call 2 days before they were scheduled, and they mentioned that they are still on track. Sure enough, they showed up early the morning they were supposed to start packing. The packers were great, very fast and thorough -- because I was very thorough in the estimate, I wasn't charged anything extra, other than the long distance carry which they were very transparent about from the beginning, so I was expecting that. I moved in to my new place on a Friday, and the next day I received a call saying that my items would be delivered either the next day or Monday. I got a call on Sunday, mentioning that they will be able to get to my place on that Sunday. Not bad at all! They arrived in the early afternoon and were very quick to unload and unwrap all of my stuff. Again, the only additional charges were the long carry and the elevator fee, which I was also aware of and prepared for. After unpacking everything, not 1 thing was broken -- not even my wine glasses. Overall, I am very impressed and very happy with the service. Essentially, if you are thorough in your original estimate/quote, read through all of the paper work (for the additional fees and everything), and are reasonable in understanding the timing of a long distance move, you can't go wrong with this company. If I ever need the service again, I will 100% be using IVL again. I hope this helps ease some minds of the horror stories that you read about all different moving companies, like I did.
