My move with Hilldrup and United Van Lines was nothing short of a disaster. Their sales agent who came to my house gave me a lot of flexibility as to when my furniture would be moved from Charlotte to Michigan. He also quoted me a price on the spot for the move. As I interviewed four firms for the move, I did not accept his offer there and then. A week or so later he called and told me that I had to the end of the week to give an answer if I wanted a moving van "guaranteed" for the move. I accepted the offer. What a mistake I made. Three days later I get a call saying that they cannot honor the dates I was given and gave me a new schedule. I did not accept that schedule. They called the next day with yet another schedule for the delivery. I had no choice by then but to accept that schedule. As part of the agreed "binding" price, I was to have my furniture packed in NC and unpacked in MI. I also had two clocks dissembled by their staff and packed for the move and reassembled in Michigan. Granted, I moved to a fairly remote location in Michigan. But Michigan is not Alaska nor Hawaii. In the end, the shipment was 13 days late, the movers did not unpack my goods in Michigan (unless I wanted to wait another 8 days of staring at unpacked boxes in my house), and the pendulum to my antique clock was broken during the move. Moreover, due to the "remoteness" of where I moved to, I had to pay an extra $200 for the servicing of the clocks even through the quote I was given in Charlotte was "binding". Yes, I was compensated by United for the delay and the unpacking not having taken place. But the move was a total disaster and one of the most stressful situations I have been in in a long time. The Hilldrup service representative who I dealt with in Charlotte was both professional and apologetic and I cannot really blame her for the mess that they put me in. That said, there is no way I could ever recommend this firm to anyone else after what happened to me.”

Best moving experience ever. Started with Rico from Charlotte who showed up at our house with two helpers. Superb job of wrapping and securing furniture for the trip southward. All were pleasant, sociable and willing to take extra time to make items safe for the trip. Delivery came early on a Sunday morning with driver Hercules and again two strong associates who worked with us to get furnishings to proper places and assembled as needed. Minor damage to a piano leg with explanation that someone will come out to adjust the leg. The experience started with an estimate from Michael and then Rachael took over checking with us frequently and woking to accommodate us on delivery date. All went WELL. Great Experience”

The salesman is nice but all goes downhill. They do not honor the contract so it does not matter what is written down. Communication is poor at best,and do not expect a return phone call. You will pay top dollar and they do not have any organization skills. They send very few people to pack and end up packing late at night. Antiques left in pieces on floor, antiques broken, scratched floor of house, cartons left unpacked and left early for Memorial Day celebration! They take a bank check ahead of time. Weigh station said that their weight analysis was very wrong and I get a large credit which they refuse to send. This is a nightmare; do not let this company move you. If you use them, get a lawyer on retainer.”

This company is taking weeks to deliver my house hold goods just so they could get more money from the Army. And that was in addition to the several several days of just trying to communicate the move in date. I begged them to try to move our stuff sooner but they didn't care. This caused us to have to spend a bunch of money on the bare minimums and my pregnant wife sleeping on an air mattress and she has already started work. I even asked if I could pick some of my stuff up and they told me it would cost me money out of pocket to pick it up myself and void any insurance on the shipment. That doesn't make sense for a to have to pay more to do their job for them. I highly recommend against using this company for any moves. I'm not looking forward to the actual move date if it even happens.”
