Jack Holt came to our house and gave us a quote of $1200 to move our belongings to storage and then we would pay an additional $500 a month for storage until our home in Tucson Arizona closed. After moving our things to storage they charged us $2520 for the move to storage and then wanted $1000 a month for storage! To make things worse they damaged almost everything we own when they moved it to Tucson. We filed a case against H&H Moving with the Better Business Bureau and they agreed to pay us over $5,000 for damages and overcharges, that was 5 weeks ago and they haven't replied to our emails or phone calls since. It's become obvious they don't have any intention of paying us the $5,000. Don't use H&H Moving!

AVOID this company!Unbelievably horrible experience with them. Normally We wouldn't bother with writing a review for anything but these guys were so bad we want to warn others. A lot of times people attempt to bash or vent about their frustrations with a company in a review. After reading others having similar experiences, we simply want to share ours and not just smear this business. Jack the owner from H&H came out originally and gave us our estimate. All seemed on the up and up until they showed up with an old pickup and dented trailer. This seemed like a potential flag but we were committed and needed to move. So we went along and were happy to get moved out. We then paid for storage at $300 dollars a month. After nine months we bought our new home and we scheduled our delivery with no problems. All seemed normal and easy no real signs of what was about to happen. On moving day my fiancé was scheduled to meet H&H at our new house between 9-10am. By 11am we hadn't seen anyone so we started to wonder. When we called we were told," that there was trouble getting into our storage unit." We were disappointed but understood and asked for an update. We called back an hour later and were told they still couldn't get into our unit. They told us that an ex-employee had the keys to that unit and they were trying to get the lock cut or open and would update us soon. We then called each hour for the next 5 hours until they told us they had opened the unit and loaded our possessions on their truck. We were asked if we still wanted it delivered that night and we insisted on it to get the experience behind us. None of our furniture came out of their truck wrapped and had dents and scratches in it. Our couch had several brown water stains on it and was ripped on the arms like a cat had scratched at it. We had 3 boxes that were clearly damaged and several expensive pieces of furniture missing.We asked the movers for some type of explanation and were told they had no idea and this was their day off. All issues would need to be taken up with Jack Holt the owner. The following day we contacted Caleb from H&H and explained what had happened and what was missing. We were given polite apologies and reasonable explanations of how it would be made right through an insurance claim. We were also told that the missing items had been found and that they would be delivered to us. We then repeatedly requested the insurance claim form each day for the next four days. It was finally received and we sent photos and documented all damage within 2 days. We then got complete silence from anyone at this company for the next three weeks. We attempted to call and email many times. Out of desperation and frustration we even attempted to schedule new move appointments several times with no result or call back. Our damage and loss was approximately $11,500, and our items they claimed to have found were strangely never returned. Through all of this we have had to initiate all correspondence except for two times where our calls were returned by Caleb a day after our move. Jack Holt the company owner has never returned our calls nor has his staff.

An important update to my prior review... After filing my previous review I was contacted by Ben, one of the new owners. Ben confirmed what I'd guessed - that H&H had been effectively ended and that his firm has bought their logistics, equipment and hired many of their best staff. I have to say, initially I was a bit cautious - but in a short amount of conversation it became apparent Ben, like myself, believes firmly in the principles of character, integrity and going the extra mile to fo what's right - even when it costs you. After all, integrity isn't something measured by whether you do the right thing when it's easy - anyone can do that! It's measured by whether you do the right thing - even though it's tough, costly and sometimes, even when no one knows about it but you. Ben explained that although they had purchased "H&H's" infrastructure, all prior owners and leadership were gone. He recognized the challenges that faced the old company and they were something he was determined to resolve by putting in policies, processes and training to resolve them as well as establishing processes and monitoring to ensure the improvements "stick." He said in fact he was *personally* going ouy frequently for moves - as one of the new owners - to make sure that experiences like ours were a thing of the past! Then he offered to do something that frankly surprised me: he said that although the prior company no longer existed and they had just taken over some of the equipment and staff, he felt bad for the experience we'd had. He said though technically they didn't take over the old companies liabilities, he wanted to help - then sent us a check that actually **EXCEEDED** the amount we would have received for our insrance claim against the old company had it still existed. Further, he didn't require that we fill out the old company's claim insurance claim form or anything like that, either. He simply talked with me about what was damaged, courteously acknowledged the fact I'm disabled (and had just gone through 2 massive spinal surgeries), then offered to try and cover damages done. We recieved the check in just a matter of days! And if that wasn't enough, he even offered us 1/2 off any future moves, too zas we'd been charged double the original quote! That's integrity, compassion, good leadership and... frankly class. After my prior scathing review of H&H, I really insisted he let me write an update. Because this type of integrity - especially in moving companies, is something you almost never see.

We had a two part move, two one day moves scheduled about 2 1/2 months apart. We hired Holt Moving for the first move, and were very pleased with their work. Based on that experience, we hired them again to do the second move and once again were very happy with the job. We got to see two different crews at work on the two days, and both were top notch. Each team was accompanied by owner Jack Holt who oversaw and participated in the moves. These guys showed up on time, with good equipment, ready to go. They worked hard throughout the day, and really gave value for cost. They were extremely careful of both the home we were leaving and the one we moved into, and of course all of our property. They took great care to avoid any damage, especially with heavy, fragile pieces through very constrained halls, stairs, and doorways. If you are considering and evaluating movers, I would highly recommend Holt Moving.

Note to self: Just because a moving company's rates are comparable to other movers don't expect that to be an indication of quality. H & H Moving Company has a sales staff that delivers a solid pitch. Don't fall for it! My experience with these movers was shockingly bad. I hired them to pack and move. The packing was slow, sloppy, and made no sense. They literally took items that were grouped together on a counter, divided and packed them separately (e.g. an appliance base in one box, the receptacle in another, the blades in a third). It took three movers 6 hours to pack the kitchen and living room. The packing was rough, and some precious items are broken. Communication was terrible. Halfway through the packing the lead got a call from his car mechanic, abandoned the team, and was replaced by an 18-year old. When they finally arrived at the destination (80 miles away) it was discovered that they neglected to pack one of the rooms. The room that was ignored contained items that were on the list from the estimate. This indicated that they didn't even check that list before driving away. We are a week out from my move and I've had to hire a second mover to finish the job. The second mover found full cupboards and many other missed items. I contacted H & H to let them know the predicament they left me in. The only response I've gotten is a receipt for $3,091.32. I know from friends and colleagues that there are top notch movers out there. I urge you to pass on H & H and take the time to find the movers who care about doing the job right.
