Darryl Brown booked a move of a 1 bedroom apartment into a public storage unit. He quoted a price of 3 hours and 3 guys to do the job of approx $448.00. This consisted of a Living Room Set, a King Bedroom Set, Recliner, Futon, and boxed up items... The day of the move which was on Aug 11, 2020 he called and said that he was down a truck and asked if he could combine a move from another client on the truck he had and that it would be cheaper because he had 6 guys doing the work. The move was local. The storage unit was approximately a 20 min drive away. Because he had combined items from another client on the truck he didn’t have enough room to put all of my items onto his truck. So he had to make a second trip for the rest of my belongings. The unit the storage facility provided me was too small for all of my items to fit so Darryl suggested that he just keep the few remaining items on his truck over night and I would meet him back at the storage place first thing in the morning. I rented a second small unit prior to him getting there. Once he arrived he said I would have to pay him a total of 1280.00. He kept saying to me. So what are you going to do about it. What are you going to do about giving me the money. Being a single female I felt threatened that if I didn’t give him the money I wouldn’t have my belongings. I reluctantly handed him the money out of fear. Please if you are looking to move...DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. If I can help or protect someone else from getting taking advantage of than this was worth it.

The team was beyond professional and consistent with communication prior to, during and after the move which I appreciated being a micro-manager planner myself. They were on time, friendly, cautious of all my items and beyond efficient. They were also experts in maneuvering items especially as it related to safely fitting all of my 1 plus bedroom apartment into a 10x10 storage unit. I highly recommend Helping Hands Philly and will definitely be using them again when I move out of storage. Thank for your awesome service!

We had a terrible experience with Helping Hands. We were scheduled to have a couple movers come to help us load our UHAUL. They advertise a 3 hour arrival window, which is understandable. However, they were scheduled to arrive at 2:30 PM and we heard nothing from them until 5:30 PM. I called numerous times and no one answered. We didn't have any contact until my wife called (from a different number) and they answered and told us that they had some people call in sick. At this point we were told that they would try and find some workers to come over and help us that night, but if not we could reschedule in the morning. Darryl said he would call us back. Well, we received no call back and our phone calls were ignored the rest of the evening. Planning to move is difficult enough, but when the company you hire no calls and no shows, it makes it maddening. We received no help from Helping Hands and would not recommend them to anyone else.

Stay away! Don’t do it! I had a terrible experience with Helping Hands Movers. I booked online and didn’t hear anything for a while. Finally got an estimate which was high, but expected. The day before Daryl called and used his gift of gab to make me feel assured that they would be there the next day to move me. The movers came, there was supposed to be 3, which I was told I must have- but only two showed. Which is fine, it was a very minimal move. The move happening fine, and then at the new house the second mover didn’t show for about 30 minutes. The mover which was there- who came in a RENTED PENSKE truck moved all the items by himself until the second mover finally arrived. Then, they caused some severe damage moving an old couch from the basement to replace with the couch they brought. The worst of this however was my call to Daryl who basically told me I need to get a paint brush or contact my landlord to fix it. How condescending and downright rude! How could a woman possibly own her own home?! Then, I was ignored for a week. My phone calls unanswered and my emails read but not responded to. This company is complete bs. If you have a kid moving ikea furniture to a new first apartment. This is your company. If you expect professional, careful, diligent service- use another company. Stay away!!!

Darryl and his team are great! They are extremely reasonable and we’ve used them twice. One of the moves, we even had them help pack up the house and they did a much better job than we could have. They were on time and moved everything carefully and efficiently.

This company is terrible, please do yourself a favor and stay away. They broke numerous items and their policy of "paying you after the move for damages" never happens, it's been over 2 weeks and the owner of the company has ghosted me. Move took double what it should have, and he forces you to pay to keep working "or else".

This is a terrible company. Please read ALL the reviews before you book them. I booked them for moving a 2 bedroom apt. locally. Extremely unprofessional and unprepared, did not bring tools or a moving blanket. Scratched, dented, and cracked my entire bedroom set. Threw my boxes around like they were trash. At the same time I can discovering the damage to my set, the owner on the phone DEMANDING more money because they were spending extra time trying to figure out how to properly put drawers in a dresser. IF YOU VALUE YOUR BELONGINGS DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I AM NOT THE FIRST PERSON THIS HAS HAPPEND TO. ~READ THE REVIEWS OF OTHERS~ THIS IS A CON WHO IS JUST IN IT FOR THE MONEY WITHOUT TAKING RESPONSIBILY FOR THEIR ACTIONS. MOST IMPORTANTLY, TAKE NOTE TO THE REPLY THE OWNER DARRYL WILL MAKE UNDER MY REVIEW: same as the others...it's your fault, you didn't get damage protection, ect ect. SORRY BUT NOONE EXPECTS A "PROFESSIONAL" COMPANY TO DAMAGE AND DESTORY YOUR BELONGINGS BECAUSE THEY DO NOT CARE!!!!! ignored me for WEEKS and now wants me to LINK MY BANK ACCOUNT to some link he is going to send for a $150 refund. NO THANK YOU, I DONT NEED YOU HAVING ACCESS TO MY BANK ACCOUNT!!!

Darryl was a breeze to work with in setting up our move only 3 days before. Our movers (Darnell and Malik) were prompt, communicative, and conscientious with our stuff (with a few minor exceptions...the only things that broke were pretty cheap to begin with...nothing that can't be easily fixed with a little glue). They had a really great work ethic and a positive attitude, especially since our move day ended up being 90 degrees, 99% humidity with several torrential downpours. The price was flat and reasonable, we got done in exactly the amount of time that was the low end of our estimate, so our deposit covered the entire move, including the Yelp discount he applied (not including the tip that Darnell and Malik easily earned by lugging our stuff in the rain) down two flights of stairs and back up two more. Would recommend. Don't be put off by the snooty reviewers who don't realize that movers are HUMAN. You have to help, you have to be directly involved, and you have to recognize that you are ultimately responsible for your own stuff. Not just as an aloof supervisor with a clipboard in one hand and a cocktail in the other, but with hands-on engagement with the entire move. They used protective blankets, bubble wrap, and cling wrap for everything that needed it. No clue what these primadonnas are talking about...my experience was quite different.

Terrible all around. First, Arrived 3 hours late after the given 2 hour arrival window. (8-10am window, arrived around 1pm). Second, destroyed some of my furniture. See attached photos. Looks like the people dragged one end of my furniture across concrete as the finish was completely removed. The top of one of our nightstands was gouged like it was dragged across metal. Other furniture was broken in parts. We have to replace these parts now. The movers did not take care with our stuff. All of the damaged furniture was brand new at our place. Our brand new mattress was in a plastic bag and although it was raining, it looked like the movers dragged the taped end of the bag through the puddles on the ground rather than carry it. The mattress is stained yellow on that end. Thankfully they arrived with a smaller truck that couldn't fit all of our furniture so a lot of furniture was safe. Hired different movers to finish the job.

The short story: Helping Hands puts profits over customer service, cost us hundreds of dollars in extra fees and hours of extra work because of their incompetence and unfair business practices. The full story: Weeks in advance of our move, we sent Helping Hands a full inventory of our items as well as a description of our walk up apt. so they would be prepared for the stairs. They arrived on the day of the move with not enough movers for the job, and with a truck that was far too small. One of the moving guys was on the phone with the co. for at least 30 minutes - that we were paying a lot of money for! - to try to explain to the manager, Darryl, that the truck simply didn't fit all the items. The move took at least 2 hours longer than necessary b/c of the time we had to waste playing tetris with large items in a too small truck at nearly 200 an hour. We still had to move multiple items that simply wouldn't fit into our own car to the storage unit, wasting hours of our time. The worst part was that when I complained to the manager, Daryl, he claimed that it was a legal problem to park a larger truck on our street - which is blatantly false; trucks park here all the time without a problem. When I pointed that out, he first tried to evade the issue, and then he admitted that it was simply a busy day and so he just sent what he had available, even though it could not possibly fit our stuff. One of our moving guys - who were really nice and doing their best under these circumstances, trying to make heavy furniture fit into a small truck under the blazing sun - straight up told me that this was the company's mistake. When hours passed and the costs started mounting, I called to ask Daryl for a discount b/c the extra time was a direct result of his poor business management. His response was to literally shout at me that we're "scamming" him and that we won't pay him - even though I never said that; I simply wanted to avoid paying extra for their mistakes - and he threatened to lock the truck down with our belongings. Under pressure, we paid in full. Do yourself a favor and avoid this company. While some people may have had a good experience, ours indicates that if anything goes wrong, even if it's the company's fault, they will not take responsibility and they will treat you terribly. Edit: Regarding the response from the movers - the extra items he notes were basically a few folding chairs and small, oddly shaped items that fit into the narrow spaces on top of the furniture in the truck where nothing else fit. It's a bit bizarre to emphasize these items instead of responding to any of the examples of horrible service I give in my description above. The overall experience was a nightmare, and we stand by our advice to avoid this company.

In short, you get what you pay for. And what I got was a busted 50 inch TV screen. Worse than that, on being asked what he could do about it, Darryl tried to show as if he was giving me a discount on 2.5 hours of labor which I knew was a lie. Apart from that, a driver was replaced midway for "unsafe driving". They were also late by one hour to start. I had specifically asked Darryl if they transport a TV safely without a box and he said we will wrap it well and transport it just like they were transporting my glass dinner table top. I did not expect the TV to be wrapped with a single blanket with room left for it to move around in the truck. The least they could have done is bubble-wrapped it. About the lying: As per Darryl's own estimate, I had booked and prepaid for 4 hours of moving service and two hours of driving the truck (Total 6 hours). On the day of the move, the service started a 11 am and ended at 6.15 pm (Total 7.15 hours). At the end when I asked Darryl what he could do about the TV, he said that I am supposed to pay for an additional 2.5 hours of labor involved in driving on top of the two hours already paid for, and now because of the busted TV, he would generously waive it off. I did not have the energy to argue on the phone after a hectic day of moving. In all online estimates of movers, they do not have extra labor charges for driving the truck in addition to the travel fee itself. You might have noticed a mismatch in the number of hours in the earlier paragraph. That is where the unsafe driving comes in. The drive from my old place to new place was supposed to take 2 hours. But it took 3.5 hours. I reached by my car in 2.5 hours. I waited for some time and then called Darryl to ask where the truck is. He told me that one of the two helpers had to be taken off duty due to unsafe driving. He was replaced midway and that took approximately 45 minutes. Darryl said he would not charge me for those 45 minutes. They arrived one hour later than the time decided upon but that is not a big issue to me personally. The movers are cheap and nice to talk to. But when it comes to competence, they are definitely found wanting. I would not recommend it to a friend.

Please do not use this company to move very shady. Doesn't realize he has all your personal property in his charge is very cavalier on the responsibility. He is not a licensed mover per the PUC. So very heartbroken over the irreplaceable things his moving men broke. I am saddened that he only values money and not the responsibility he is given. I hope people investigate their movers before they give them everything they own to move. I am so very sad that my grandmothers most favorite ceramic items will never be the same again. I wrapped them and bubble wrapped I marked fragile the loaded heavy heavy things on top of this crate and broke everything. No sorry just hey things break in moves. He did not offer to deduct a penny. That is a blatant untruth. The move was booked under my husbands name. I do not owe you a penny. I have other complaints and could have been a lot meaner. I chose to take the high road but I see u went low. I wish you well I will no longer entertain this your future customers can make their decision however they wish but do not tell falsehoods I am not a copy cat review and have nothing to do with Regina.

Very horrible service on 6/2/21017. They come across as professional, easy going, however in the end 90% of my furniture was damaged (which was only a year old), along with the home I moved out of & the apartment I moved to. They were 3 hours late, the "experienced mover" kept spilling his sports drink all over the place and taking smoke breaks; the person he was "training" didn't know what the heck he was doing- INEXPERIENCED MOVERS (did not come prepared with tools, didn't pack anything -fortunately I had 90% of my belongings already packed- broken/scraped/destroyed my furniture during the disassemble & move)... Very aggressive regarding payment, which is demanded when they are ready to stop (whether services are rendered or not) and before they exit your premises. I have been trying to get a resolution regarding my damaged property & poor service (in addition to not packing or reassembling my belongings as were requested in my service request, the movers left some of my packed belongings at the property I moved from, proceeded to the new address without a go ahead from me and refused to go back to get it, therefore I had to be charged by my previous landlord & my items were trashed). The owner of this company has become unreachable at this point, therefore I am considering taking this matter into legal hands.

Helping Hands did and awesome job helping us move up into a 3 story walk up! We hired Darnell and Wasim for 2 hours labor only service . They arrived promptly ready to work. They busted their butts helping us move! Extremely hard working and a pleasure to be around. Highly recommend !

Helping Hands was fantastic for our big move! They were accommodating for a specific time frame, checked in with details and made the job fast and affordable. They included a truck but, for a discount, we had the option of renting our own. The crew was friendly, professional and affordable. I would absolutely use them again!

This past summer, I had a cross country move from Philadelphia, and hired a couple guys from Helping Hands. These guys were awesome, and definitely very helpful. They were able to explain things so we could understand as far as timing of the move, and what they could and couldn't do. They were able to take direction, and got right on it in lifting all the heavy furniture we required into the moving truck. They even helped with stretch wrapping and blanketing the furniture. The reason I am giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is because I am not sure if the way THEY packed things caused some of the damage to the furniture I saw later at my destination. I did pack some things after they were done, and it could have been my fault though. Also there was some teeny minor damage to the stair walls ( paint mostly, but had to drywall repair a bit), which I don't really blame them because it was hard to bring down big heavy dressers through a narrow stairway. Either way, they were awesome. One of the guys was Kevin- and he was passionate about helping me in any way he could, determined, knowledgeable, and very helpful. Thank you Helping Hands!

A sincere thanks for everything. The guys were beyond fantastic!!! Super mindful, considerate, and helpful! I will def recommend this company in the future! Darryl the owner has excellent customer service and I really appreciated that he spoke on the phone with me a few times before the move. We had fragile paintings - a lot of them - and the helping hands team was VERY mindful and considerate in wrapping and making sure all was moved as carefully as possible. They were also on time.

I'm dropping my rating to pretty much neutral after a second experience with Helping Hands. Based on our first good experience as explained in my previous review, I recommended that my aunt hire Helping Hands for her move last month. Darryl made sure to thank me for my repeat business when I booked the job, and I felt like I'd made a good recommendation to my aunt. I won't get into a game of he said/she said here, but the move did not go as smoothly as we expected and we were disappointed. I'll leave it at that. So with one good experience and one bad one now, I guess I'll just say I'm in the middle.

These guys are top notch. If you're in need of just a helping hand moving furniture, or moving entirely, but don't want to hire an expensive moving company, or guilt family and friends to throw in their own elbow grease, these guys are perfect. They were on-time, they worked quickly, and were well supervised, as well as extremely polite and professional. Whenever I'm in need to hire a helping hand moving, these guys will be the first I come to. Definitely recommend.

★★★★★
Move number two was fantastic! Kevin and Daniel were excellent movers. Very professional, cautious and humorous. They treated my move like it was their own and made sure everything fit on the truck perfectly. It was a real-life game of Tetris they took to load my stuff on the truck and they did it all with ease. Communication was spot on as well. Near the hour and a half mark one commented that they'd need another hour to unload. I appreciated their honesty and willingness to go the extra hour to ensure my items were off the truck and in my new apartment. They certainly could have left me to unload given I only booked for two hours. However their professionalism would not allow that. Daryl was able to accommodate the extra hour and they were done well before the full extra hour was complete. It was a great move and I am happy to know I can count on the Helping Hands crew for all of my moves. I will definitely be sharing their info with students and friends that need quick, reliable movers.

These guys were simply amazing. Considerate and really knew what they were doing. Jhakur and Dan were our helpers and I could not have had better help. They were strong and intelligent and knew how to work well as a team. We basically had to move nothing heavy ourselves. I would definitely use these guys again and highly recommend them. They made a stressful situation enjoyable and we made sure we tipped them well.

I saw an ad on Craigslist for Helping Hands Philly Movers and called to price a moving job. The communication and professionalism of the owner was excellent during scheduling. The website is up to date and trustworthy. We worked together to determine what service was best for me. I received a confirmed the day of the appointment and was even offered an early time. I wish the confirmation came early because I had left a few messages leading up to my appointment to make sure we were still on and didn't get a response back. They showed up promptly, were polite and efficient. They were very careful with my items and worked quickly. Disassembled and reassembled my bed and put all my furniture exactly where I wanted it to go. They were professional and made a stressful process less stressful.

Helping hands was hired recently for 2 moves. the first was a small - a one bedroom apt and although they were two hours late, the move went well, a little over the estimated time but nothing terrible.Based on this move we contracted 3 weeks later for another move. The second move was for a 3 bedroom house and for anyone who absolutely needs to be out on that moving date, beware. The original time given was a three hour window from 10am-1pm. Then it was moved to 2pm, then it was moved to 3-3:30pm, then it was moved to 4:30pm and they finally arrived at 5:30pm. Each time they changed the arrival time they said, no problem we'll get you moved. They pulled up the block in a 20ft truck. There was no way the furniture would fit and the movers at the scene agreed. The owner said they "don't own a 26ft truck" and "cannot control the size of the truck Uhaul provides us with" so in effect they knew from the very beginning of the contract they didn't own a truck large enough for a 3 bedroom house and they knew the morning of the move that Uhaul could not provide them with a 26ft truck. Yet they continued to string us along the entire day. Their solution? to start loading the truck at 5:45pm and fill it and drive 50 min to the new destination, unload, drive back, reload and drive back and they were going to charge us for half the additional driving time! as if it was our fault they didn't have a truck large enough to move the furniture. At this point it would have been 1am at the earliest before this move was completed. We cancelled and the owners comment " we arrived to your house and were ready to help despite the day was not perfect". Not perfect??? It never happened. You lied to us consistently during the day about arrival time and your ability to get us moved. We contracted with Ryan movers 2 days later, they arrived on time with a 26ft truck and everything fit and was moved in under 5 hours. If looking for a mover for something large than a one or two bedroom, I'd look elsewhere.

I recently hired Helping Hands to move my two bedroom apartment. The movers and the owner Darryl are extrememly unprofessional. I wish I saw the other yelp reviews before I let them touch my things. They showed up to the job with a truck that was too small (and yes, it matter because when you have to cramp and shove someone's belongings into a truck they BREAK/SCRATCH/DENT) and no tools or moving blankets. I had to beg them to stop shoving my dresser out of the door (while it's being scraped on the door frame) with the drawers still in it and fragile wood pieces that hold the mirror up. When my set got to the new apartment, the headboard was cracked front and back, and the night stand and dresser were scratched all over the top and front (see pictures). The movers couldn't figure out how to put my bed together and they couldn't figure out how to put drawers in a dresser properly. The first mover spent 20 minutes trying to put together my daughters basic queen frame, but couldn't figure it out!!!! At the same time this is happening, I have the owner on the phone DEMANDING MORE MONEY. It was the worst experience ever. PLEASE READ ALL THE REVIEWS, it puts together the extremely manipulative and con artist attitude of the owner. This company will damage your properly and then avoid you!!! They offered me $150 refund after several weeks of being ignored, but want me to LINK MY BANK ACCOUNT to their system in order to issue the refund. My set was in perfect condition before being moved. No, thank you!!! Sooo many more awful things happened during this move, it was flat out a terrible moving experience.
