Helping Hands Moving Company Reviews

★★★★★
Absolutely the best moving company I have ever dealt with!! If I could, I would have given them 10 stars!! I looked up moving companies on Yelp in my local area. I found Helping Hands and requested a quote. I was contacted less than 20 minutes with a very decent price. Everything was done via message on Yelp which made me even happier. Matthew, the owner, was very polite, very quick to answer every time, and precise when giving me details. There was also a $50 for $100 coupon that I purchased and it was extremely easy to look it up, and use. The movers, Samuel and Jonathan, were on time, and ready to move. They were very kind, funny, and at the same time fast and knowledgeable as to what and how to move things. I could NOT be more satisfied and also impressed with how well they did! I will definitely recommend this company to anyone and everyone I know who needs help moving. What's even better is that they are a local company.

From my first call with Darren, to my two movers Ellis and Zarius, this company was incredibly polite and extremely efficient. Will definitely use them again. Thanks guys!

I called these Helping Hands Moving Company after a friend referred me and they gave me a quote within minutes. Not only did I get an instant quote, but they were able to send three gentlemen the very next day. Kelly, Dustin and Zarious were super friendly professional and fast. They were in and out within 3 hours and I had some large pieces that needed to go through some small doorways. They put in some hard work today. Thanks guys. I will be referring y’all to my friends

★★★★★
Movers showed up three hours early which was fine, but had to rush to accommodate them. Paid for three hours of service for three guys. One person used the bathroom for at least 25 minutes. Then I was overcharged a little over one hundred dollars from the original quote because it took a "little" more time than thought in the estimate. I called to talk about it and was told i would get a call on the next Monday but no one ever returned my call.

Had a very great experience with this moving company. Fast, efficient, and cost effective. Darren and the moving crew (Kelly, Anthony, Zoe) were good and professional at what they do. Thanks for the awesome service.

Ant, Big Mike and Tikeyon were amazing. So nice and professional and handled my things with care but were still so quick and efficient! The process was easy from start to finish. From the estimate to the day of the move everyone I spoke with or dealt with were great. Ant, Big Mike and Tikeyon worked so hard and made my move very easy. I would definitely use Helping Hands again and recommend them!

They Left random pieces of clothing in my storage unit, and I'm missing random items from my move. I called to ask about it and was just told they dont have it, so then what happened to all of my stuff? I'm missing over 20 items I had to make a list. They also promised to hook up my washer and dryer. They did my washer, and it was leaking, and failed to hook up the dryer. They offered to come back out the next day, and then canceled. I hired someone else to do it properly because I dont even trust their work anymore at this point. Their movers also chipped by wall in 2 places, put my dining room set together wrong, and left garbage in the street. Will not be using again for my next move, would not recommend them at all.

Helping Hands provided the most unprofessional moving service that my husband and I have ever experienced. The team showed up for the job hours later than the previously scheduled 4 hour block and because the work load was larger than expected, they left without moving anything because it was payday Friday and one of them had to pick up their child. Not sure how any of that was our business. The team of two represented the company poorly and management isn't any better. We have requested numerous times alreay for our deposit to be refunded. It's been over a month and they have not refunded our deposit yet. This is the equivalent of theft. Taking something that does not belong to you when you have not provided any service is theft. Do not waster your time dealing with a business that lacks honesty, integrity, and professionalism. Take your money elsewhere.

They overcharged my credit card by more than twice the estimated amount. For over a year, couldn't get Matt Brown to return any correspondence. Happy to say that I have successfully sued him (Helping Hands). If Helping Hands owes you money, take them to court. Matt Brown is a coward and won't show up, so you'll win, like I did. Matt, Your continued silence is expected, and therefore, I don't expect a response to this email as well. I am in the process of moving forward on retrieving the money you stole from me. At this point, I have been instructed to reach out to a last time to try to resolve this. In the coming weeks, I will be filing a debtors interrogatories with the Chesapeake Circuit Court to determine your assets. Since you won't communicate with me and refund the $5361 you owe me, I am left with no other option than to collect physical assets from Helping Hands movers. Please reach out to me and lets settle this. I don't want to take your box truck(s). The people who work for you will be the ones suffering, and it's not their fault that your dishonest. Also, I have been in contact with (removed). You may recognize her name, she sued you as well and has yet to receive payment. I have been instructing her on the process of filing for debtors interrogatories so she can reclaim the money you stole from here. I have also been working hard with the BBB and social media reviewing site to ensure consumers know your company steals from them. So far, I have convinced at least one person to file against you. At some point, the amount of theft will become criminal, Matt. Personally, I can't wait.

This has to be the worse move I ever had!!! First off they were 2 and half hours late! Then they showed up and I told them it was two stops. They said they were only told about one. Sorry sir that isn’t my problem. Then when they started moving the stuff. They decided to move the heave stuff last. Then he decided to call his manager and that was another 20 minutes wasted. So I will be calling corporate on Monday!!

USER BEWARE!! Worked for this company all of 3 days only to find out I work for an absolute SCAM of a company where do I even begin!!! Filled out w-4 and I-9 only to find out I was gonna get paid via personal check never filled out anything for the state taxes(Very odd). On my last day of work I moved a woman who was lied too saying we had come from Richmond that’s why we were running behind(BS) the customer was also told we had tools...which we also didn’t have(more BS) I believe that most of the posts on here are absolutely fake. Was told that a branch existed in Richmond(Lie) when you go on the “Company Website” the 800 number ties into one woman actually the ONLY SALES PERSON HE HAS. If you call the “Richmond branch” it also sends you to the same sales lady. Not accredited with the BBB the address on file is connected to a Harris Teeter in Chesapeake. The trucks are parked in some random location. Very disorganized this company is a scam waiting to fall apart don’t believe any of the things you see about being awarded best company in Chesapeake all lies. Don’t let this man steal your money!!!

SAVE YOURSELF and go somewhere else. This company is grossly mismanaged and negligent. We scheduled an in-town move with them several weeks in advance. A couple of hours before they were scheduled to show up the office manager calls and says they're running behind and need to reschedule for the next day. As compensation for the inconvience they'll knock $150 off the price. Ok, i understand things happen and I'm not going to be able to get another company out that day so i'll live with it. The next morning we get an updated invoice with only $50 off. I'm annoyed again but i'll deal with it after the job is done. Well this time they don't show again, with no call or notice. In fact we called earlier in the morning to confirm they were still on schedule and were told yes. We must've called their office a hundred times and no one would answer the phone or return a message. We scrambled and found another company to come out that third day, but we had taken time off work and lost the whole weekend. Despite being told by the manager that the owner would call us, he never did. He apparently told his office manager that he had reached out to us, but this was a total lie. You can't screw around with scheduling a move, people have lease commitments, contractors scheduled, and a million other plans. This company and ownership does not care.

Not only did they help me move within a 24 hour notice they were quick and started working right when they came . The scheduler and the CO were extremely helpful and help eliminate a small problem , I would definitely recommend this company they are extremely professional and go above and beyond to help make your move smooth .

First time using a moving company and I was beyond words blown away by how efficient and fast they were. I was a very last minute add on to there schedule, but they made it work. Let me know what was going on throughout the process and made me feel very comfortable. Will highly recommend to everyone.

Great reviews must all be from friends! The owner of this company is a con-artist, a liar and a thief. Making a long story short. My daughter was moving to a home about a mile away from her home in Chesapeake. Because of great reviews she chooses this company. Arrival time scheduled at 9AM, no one showed, no one called and no one returned any of our calls FINALLY the owner called at 10 with excuse after excuse and a promise of (1) one free hour, (2) two trucks instead of one and (3) to be there between 12 and 2. One truck arrived at 2:30, one a while later. Over the next 5 hours they wedged a large fridge in a door and dented that, broke a desk in half, lost screws for handles, put glass shelves in a hutch upside down, spent more time on their phones than working and while one crew was staring at the fridge wedged in the doorway the other movers were parting in the garage. To top it all off the owner would not return a plethora of emails, texts and emails. He did answer one text saying he was "in a meeting" which his own staff said was a lie. SO after several days and one text asking him to call so we could get him paid...he used a debit card and with no authorization, not verbal, not in writing he stole over $600. Needless to say you'll see this review on other sites as well, and he'll be hearing from our attorney. He should be ashamed......I feel bad for the lady and husband who work for him and are doing their best to be honest... it must be hard while working for this guy. Perhaps this review would not have been posted if AGAIN he would answer a call.

We hired this company for a move from Norfolk to Ashland. I called for an estimate and told them what would be on the truck. I included a washer and dryer in the estimate but ended up donating them to Habitat for Humanity instead. I estimated 40 boxes but used less. My estimate was $950-$1050 which was on par with 2 other estimates so I went ahead and booked them. The guys that showed up were extremely nice and professional but very inexperienced. The truck they sent was obviously a bit small and a lot of time by the crew was spent contemplating how to get everything in a truck that couldn't possibly hold it all. I had already wrapped everything myself and boxed up everything also so all the movers had to do was put it in the truck. I added 2 35" led tv's to the truck but that was still considerably smaller than a washer and dryer. After all was said and done, there was a couple of scratches, my temperpedic mattress now has a lump in it that won't go away, and the company wanted to charge me $300 more than the estimate and I still had a considerable amount of stuff left in Norfolk that I had to go back for myself. The manager spoke with me on the phone and essentially blamed me that my boxes were too big and proceeded to yell at the supervisor of the job in front of me. What a disgrace. The manager then had an office girl call me who proceeded to tell me that she didn't know why the manager had her call because she couldn't do anything about it. The only redeeming factor of all of this is that the guys that moved me were extremely nice and tried their best.

I bought this company's groupon: 3 guys, 3 hrs, and a truck for $399. Pretty straightforward, right? Wrong. Buried in the fine print and never mentioned in telephone conversations is the fact that they tack on an extra hour of "travel time" (i.e. the time it took for them to get to me from the previous move...what?). I had 3 great guys, and we made excellent time, well within the 3 hour time limit...or so I thought, until I was informed of that extra hour. What should have cost $399 actually cost $512. Total BS if you ask me. So, though the moving experience itself was excellent, beware of the business practices of its owner/s.

This will be an interesting review because I never had the chance to use these folks, but I think my story is important and relevant. I purchased 3 men for 3 hours and an 18 foot moving truck from Helping Hands Moving through Groupon on Sunday night, January 6, 2019. On Monday morning, I tried to phone the 1-800 number I was given through Groupon (also on the Helping Hands website), and left a message in hopes for a return call to set up an appointment. After a couple of hours, I looked on their (Helping Hands') website, found their local number (which connects you with their office manager), and called it and left a message. After receiving no phone call back on Tuesday the 8th, I tried calling the local number again on Wednesday the 9th and to my surprise found that they had blocked my number. As I could not imagine any reason for them to have done so (I was not angry, upset, or even in a hurry!), I tried the 1-800 number again and left a message. But since Groupon only gives refunds for cause within 3 days of a purchase, and let's face it, if they blocked my number, how could I trust these people? I figured (better safe than sorry), I better cancel. So I cancelled at around noon on Wednesday, January 9, 2019. I guess they either just didn't want my business at the Groupon discounted rate, or they didn't want my business for some other reason, but it was pretty clear that they did not want my business. So one star is all I can give them. Interestingly enough, I did get a call around 1:30 (when I was just finishing p this review) from a very nice gentleman named Sean returning my call to the 1-800 number. I suppose if the office manager had not blocked my phone number, perhaps all would have gone well!

DO NOT use this company. Giving this one star because I can't go any lower. I moved pre deployment in a hurry and contracted these folks out because of their affordable service. I had professional movers come again today and they continued to inform me of what I already suspected - this is a terrible moving company. I paid for a full service pack and move and the movers showed up day of and didn't bring any materials. Their supervisor asked me over the phone how many boxes they needed while the staff stood in my living room. They didn't purchase enough supplies so were forced to just throw random things in boxes and didn't take any precaution as they did it. I also had to buy them tape because they forgot. They rushed through the entire thing and I asked why and they said they hadn't booked enough time to sufficiently pack properly. I elevated my concerns to the supervisors and they said they'd get back to me to reconcile the problem, but never did. Following that they promised to reimburse me for the chop job they called a move but stopped answering the phone. DO NOT use this company.

I was quoted one price and then when time came to pay I ended up paying an additional $200! The moving team was fine and put me on the phone with Darrin. He informed me he didn't like my attitude and he didn't like me and he hung the phone up on me. So unprofessional. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

While I called and was given a quote, the person didn't even answer the phone professionally, I just got a "hello", as if it was a personal phone. When I called back the next morning to confirm, I never received a call back, so I would definitely NOT recommend them.

We booked Helping Hands Moving Company for a local move from a two bedroom condo to a house. They canceled on us one hour before the move time and rescheduled for 2 pm the next day. I called that following morning to confirm the move and they said yes. We called at 2:15 when they hadn't showed and the receptionist said she would find out where they were and call us back. We never received a call back, and we called several times and nobody answered the phone. I was scrambling at 6 pm on a Saturday trying to find a mover for the next day. Luckily A Mover Inc. came to the rescue and showed up on time at 9 am to move our belongings. This was such an inconvenience because all of our stuff was in boxes. We have a 6 month old baby, and we had to move her pack n play from house to house while we tried to figure out where we were sleeping that night. I also wasted a day of leave because I took off work that Friday to meet the movers. We did get our $100 deposit refunded, but I never heard back from the owner after several requests for a phone call. DO NOT use Helping Hands Moving Company! They are not helpful! They only add more stress to an already stressful situation.

Goodness I wish I had read the reviews before I went with this company. If you are researching please hear me: I NEVER take the time to leave a review but I must. Find another moving company!!! At explaining several times how my move from a high rise would be more difficult because of elevator issue and being informed that 3 movers would alleviate extra time, the total for my move was double- DOUBLE what I was quoted. This is poor business and feels like the owner uses stressful times like moves to hit customers in the head with an extraordinary amount of additional costs. I really wish I had gone with another company they added such a negative moment to my move!

Do not use this company. They company moved my household goods back in September of 2019. After several request, the company has still not returned any of my household goods. Check BBB and other web sites. We have also contacted the Office of the State Attorney General for assistance. So far no resolution. Do yourself a favor do not use this company ever.
