About Hampton Roads Moving and Storage
Our founder Don Queeney has a long history with the moving industry starting in 1977 when he “jumped on a moving van in New York and worked as a helper for two summers.” Don relocated to Maine where he met his future wife Brenda and started a new life as a commercial fisherman. In Maine Don and Brenda married and started a family and realized that being a commercial fisherman might not be the best future for their young family. It was then that Don decided to go back to his moving roots and started a small moving company in Maine. With a one truck operation and an office above a steel shop the family business had begun.
Wanting to expand his family business Don Queeney reached out to multiple National companies but Paul Arpin was the only one that would take on a mom and pop in rural Maine. As the relationship progressed, Paul Arpin whose grandfather founded Arpin Van Lines, took Don under his wing and asked him to move his family to the Mid-Atlantic to run a company owned store for Arpin Van Lines. In 1991 Don moved his family to Chesapeake Virginia and within three years Don was managing company stores in Chesapeake, Newport News, and Richmond Va.
In 2003 Don and Brenda Queeney purchased the company store from Arpin Van Lines and had become independent agents and that is when Hampton Roads Moving and Storage began. Employing 75 employees year-round but bumps up to 125 with part-time and seasonal workers Hampton Roads Moving and Storage has been recognized by Inside Business as one of the fastest growing businesses in Hampton Roads. It was the first time a moving company has been named to the list. With Brenda Queeney serving as the President and Chief financial officer; Don Queeney as Vice President; and their son Chad Queeney, who has worked in the business since he was 14, is now chief operating officer.
In 2015 the company consolidated all their operations into on location in Suffolk, VA providing relocations locally to anywhere around the world. Being located in the Norfolk market military relocations is a large part of Hampton Roads business but we also provide corporate relocations, commercial office moving, hotel and restaurant storage and installing.

My husband and I had a horrible moving experience with this company. The packers did not inventory our items while they were boxing our things up. So when they lost 2 of our boxes, we had no idea what was all missing. The men who moved our things out were very nice, hard working, and fast. We had no issues with them. When we received our things and realized items were missing, they could not locate any of it. They just knew our stuff had not left VA. They ended up losing our parts box, which had parts to every item in our house. And a box from our kitchen which had all of our dishes, mugs, measuring cups, and beer/wine glasses. When the problem was reported to the company, we had a very hard time hearing back from them. They were very difficult to deal with. I would not recommend them or trust then with your personal property.”

I have served in the Navy for over 20 years and not once have I ever had something like this happen with all the moves I have done in that time. Hampton Roads Moving & Storage was contracted by a national moving company (Mini Moves) to collect some furniture items from my home in Kitty Hawk, NC and load it to a Mini Moves container that then went cross country to Las Vega, NV. They first canceled and rescheduled the pickup twice, citing "catastrophic weather" as the reason - we had a rain storm in Norfolk. Like that's unusual. The second time they canceled they never bothered to tell me they weren't coming. Waited for me to call and find out where they were. The phone despatcher was the rudest person I've ever dealt with. Clueless and aggressive. Not a good combo. They then packed the container so poorly that 10+ items were smashed when unloaded in Las Vegas, and 1 item was MIA, lost somewhere between Kitty Hawk and their facility in Suffolk. I would never recommend this company for any sort of moving services. It is without doubt the worst company I have ever dealt with.”
