Georgetown Moving and Storage Company Reviews

★★★★★
Georgetown movers were wonderful. The crew they sent - lead by Brandon - could not have been nicer, more respectful, and careful. The move took a while, but their attitudes were positive the whole time and they didn't slow down until the job was done. Plus, we only had 1 broken dish- impressive. I've used them twice now and wouldn't hesitate to call them again.

Very professional, friendly and efficient team.

In general, we were pleased with the work of Georgetown Moving and Storage Company. While they did arrive 90 minutes late on the day of our move out, they worked quickly and professionally to carefully package our belongings. They were then 90 minutes early the next day (cross-state move), and again worked quickly to unload our belongings. Everything remained intact/didn't break. Also, very affordable!

Steer FAR FAR FAR away from this company. I contacted them weeks ago for a move, got my estimate via email in which they told me I could confirm the reservation via email. So I went ahead and did so. Went back and forth with at least two individuals until we confirmed a date. Today was the day they were scheduled to arrive and they were no shows. When I called to figure out where they were, I was told my reservation was never made because I never paid a deposit. In ALL of my back and forth with their reps nobody ever made mention of a deposit. The man I spoke with raised his voice at me and told me that “I should have read the fine print” and took absolutely no responsibility for their mistakes. Do yourself a favor and save yourself the headache of dealing with such a poorly managed company.

They showed up nearly an hour late, I had several glasses broken that were well wrapped and in boxes clearly marked fragile because they stacked boxes on top of those boxes (the glasses that all broke were ones on the top of the box), and they broke a floor lamp that they then tried to cover up by leaving it at my old place near the trash. Will never use again.

Second time using Georgetown Movers. Used them a second time because the first experience was great. Will definitely use them again.

★★★★★
Amazing!!! These guys are fantastic. I had a 2 pm job scheduled with them. They called about 1 pm to let me know that they had finished their first move earlier than anticipated and asked if I was interested in starting sooner. This helped to alleviate some stress as I had a 2 bedroom move with a lot of items so I was already concerned with timing. When the crew showed up they were all so kind and introduced themselves. Once they began, they disassembled all of my furniture, and wrapped all of it in blankets. I was so thankful for the care that they took. My grandmother left me a antique china cabinet with glass doors. I told them that I was particularly concerned with this piece as it had a lot of sentimental value. The crew chief Ricardo said that he would personally wrap it. He covered all the glass with cardboard then wrapped the entire piece so perfectly. I was honestly in awe. During the move the elevator in my building broke down (of course something had to go wrong!). The men had to carry all the items down from my 4th floor apartment. For anyone who lives in DC, you know how narrow these stairwells can be. I was terrified that my over sized couch wasn't going to fit around the corners in the stairwell. Low and behold, it didn't. However, the crew made it work. Between the 3 men, they were able to lift the couch over the waist height banister and pivot at the same time to make it clear the banister and walls. Again, I am in awe. The movers got all the items out, we settled the bill and they brought all of my items back to their storage facility where they remained for 6 months while my condo was being renovated. At the move out, I called the company and spoke with one of their office personnel which are honestly just as fantastic as the movers. I explained that the floors had just been refinished and numerous projects done within the apartment. The office eased my concerns and told me that additional protective coverings would be brought on the move date. When the movers arrived it was just like the move in, the crew all introduced themselves, they asked where I wanted items placed and they got right to work. Luckily, the elevator did not break down this time! The men were so fast but so careful with my belongings. I will continue to use them over and over.

★★★★★
We were very happy with this company. Our 2 movers did a great job. They were efficient and absolutely nothing was damaged. The cost of our out-of-state move was very reasonable, actually less than we expected.

★★★★★
I hired Georgetown for a long distance move to Vermont. Everybody in the office was fantastic, and I was given a fair quote and booked. I was called 3 days prior to the move to confirm. The initial driver assigned to my move had a family emergency, so Brandon was dispatched in his place and I am so grateful he was! He was beyond phenomenal in the care he took with wrapping my furniture and alleviated all of my anxiety about the move. He and Jerome worked so hard with the best attitudes and demeanor, and it was an absolute pleasure working with them! I’m so happy I chose Georgetown.

★★★★★
Rarely do I give a review, but Georgetown Movers (specifically Larry and Freddie) were great. The move was NOVA to NYC, and in the middle of a snow storm. They kept their heads cool, communicated a ton, were hilarious, efficient and professional. AND I thought I should be nervous because they were very affordable, but there was no need. Trust these guys, and use them!

★★★★★
I hired Georgetown Movers for a local move from Arlington, VA to Maryland. They arrived exactly within the provided timeframe and were prepared (with all the necessary tools to dismantle my furniture), professional, and courteous. While their pricing wasn't the cheapest against their competitors, I was very satisfied with the service and the time it took them to safely package and transport my furniture. They were very careful with maneuvering the furniture through narrow passageways and didn't cause any damage. I highly recommend their service and will use them again in the future!

★★★★★
Great experience with this moving company. The two men that assisted me were very polite and got the job done in a very time efficient manner. They aren't the lowest price option in the area but you can rely on them to get your stuff from point A to B without stress and breaking stuff. Would definitely recommend!

★★★★★
We never had movers before and when facing a move from the DC Metro area to upstate New York, we plunged into the expensive world of finding movers. After getting quotes from numerous places, we settled with Georgetown because it was *half* the cost of other well-known companies. This did make us a little hesitant--that whole "why is it so cheap, what's wrong with it" mentality but I can say that our hesitancy was unnecessary. Our movers called with updates on the time they would arrive, they were incredibly polite and friendly, they were FAST and had no issue in helping us pack some items that we weren't sure how to pack, despite that we did not hire them to pack our items. When they arrived with our belongings, we were thrilled to see that there was minimal damage. Seriously, we had one plastic lid of a storage box that cracked and that was all and we have a lot of breakable items. No scuff marks, no cracks, no loss of items. Everything was there and they moved it to the proper rooms and reassembled the furniture they had broken down. I've already suggested friends use Georgetown Movers for upcoming moves and now I'm doing the same for you. Reach out to them if you're planning to move, get a quote, save yourself money and allow yourself to relax in some aspect of the hecticness that is moving.

10 stars if I could. Company was incredibly easy to work with, and the onsite crews were fantastic. Larry, Dominic were great. Amanda was great with scheduling and very accommodating after an unexpected issue arose which led to my belongings needing to be stored over night. They did not charge me for this and were more than flexible in getting everything delivered and moved in the next day. Moving companies often get a bad reputation. This company is fantastic and I would recommend to anyone.

My 1st experience, but not my last! My move was on June 27th and it was flawless. Seriously, I still can't believe it went off without one problem/issue. From the initial call to get an estimate to the last box loaded unto the truck, my experience was seamless and professional. Ashley provided me with a thorough estimate and walked me through the entire moving and storage process and the movers did exactly what she promised. The moving team was on time, professional, on task and respectful of the items they were moving as well as my condo floors, walls, doors, ceiling lighting and common areas within my condo building. I will be requesting that same team to move my items {out of their storage facility) to my new home. The billing process was easy and accurate. I had a wonderful mover who moved me 3-4 times over the years but has since retired so I was super skeptical and stressed about finding a replacement - Georgetown Moving & Storage is my new moving company. Stand by for Part II {storage & move to new home} of this experience......

We had an unfortunate experience with Georgetown Moving. Everyone was friendly but they failed to securely pack my record player and then dropped it during the move. When I called customer service, they told me I signed up for the default insurance and the claim amount did not meet the deductible. They credited $50 back to my account but they missed the point… The movers never secured the record player in the first place which was total negligence on their part. This was unacceptable for an almost $3,000 service. We will hire another company in the future.

If you value your things pick a different moving service. Movers were late to both pick up and drop off. Additionally there were untrained movers working independently (apparently) as the junior mover broke several items. Including an antique lamp. What happened to my bookcase is anyone's guess. It looks like it was carried improperly an stepped on? During the drop off it was just complete a claim form and it will reimbursed of course that was not the case at all! When contacted for reimbursement I was told I signed up for some decreased level of insurance. I responded this was never explained to me during the quote phase, pick up or drop off. It was actually hidden in the fine print and never explained by any of the several company representatives I spoke to over the course of this move. Horrible customer service. Keep your antiques safe and choose a more experienced and responsible company.

★★★★★
Great experience recently with Georgetown Moving and Storage. They showed up on time, worked diligently, answered questions, and didn't break or damage anything. The pricing was reasonable and the customer service was excellent. I've used them for two moves now and would definitely recommend them.

Terrible company. They forgot to pack my dishes from one of the drawers and stole my very expensive pair of Louis Vuitton shoe. Already filed a police report, will not deal with them again.

★★★★★
We are very pleased with this moving company. While we were unable to be present for the move due to the virus. We live in California, we hired this company to do our packing moving and storage. They were very good at keeping me informed. We had a family rep checking in on movers and he reported that these guys were very professional and doing a good job! We'll see you guys in the Fall! The price was extremely fair

★☆☆☆☆
AWFUL experience. Movers broke three pieces of furniture because they didn't wrap them even after I asked them to, and badly damaged the shade on an expensive lamp that I also asked them to wrap. Had called in advance about moving a large gun safe and they charged me extra to get the necessary equipment; apparently they didn't send enough men. They picked it up, moved it about 20 feet and left it sitting in the middle of my basement, promising to call back and complete the job. When they left, we learned they CLOSED THE CODE AND KEY INSIDE THE SAFE AND LOCKED IT. It will cost $600 to get it opened and we will have to pay someone else on top of what we already payed them to just leave it in the middle of a room. Their attitude was disrespectful, rude and dismissive. After years of relying on Georgetown, we will NEVER hire them again.

Super unprofessional and did not show up on our moving day. They didn't even call to give us a heads up/accommodate. Now have to deal with finding a last minute moving service. DO NOT use this company!!!

First review I've left in five years on Yelp. Do NOT use this service. Recently used them for an interstate move with my wife. Six boxes were not labeled at all and two boxes did not arrive. The guys loading the truck were slow and reeked of marijuana- no doubt the boxes were stolen or left on the loading dock. The amount they offered was less than the deductible even though there was over $8,000 worth of merchandise missing. Complete lack of caring on their part. Incompetent labor. Now forced to file a complaint with the BBB and and file a police report due to the company being inept at loading boxes onto a truck- or flat out theft. Stay away from this company.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! I engaged them to move my possessions out of my apartment in DC. The called me the morning of the scheduled move and said that they had someone show up sick and needed to reschedule me to the following day. I thanked them for not sending someone who was sick to my apartment and made arrangements with my apartment building to do the move the following day (which was fortunately able to be accommodated). They then called me at about 10:30 the next morning (move was scheduled for 12-1) and said they were not going to show up at all. I couldn't believe it. They didn't even seem to feel the need to offer any compensation for the mess they had made of my move and told me to "read my contract" when I asked them for compensation.

Words cannot express how terrible an experience we've had with this company. I scheduled our move from NY to VA two weeks in advance - a full service move that included packing since we were not present. Our move was supposed to happen yesterday, with a start time between 10am - 11am. The movers showed up 3 hours late (they called in the morning to say they would be late, but didn't give an ETA). I end up getting a call from one of their managers, Ashley, who says the move will cost $800+ more because we have more furniture items than we said initially. We decide to not move the additional furniture items. Fast forward until around 5pm - I get a call from Ashley's manager (I think his name is Jim Al) and he says the move is cancelled. WTF!? The movers spent 4 hours in my unit, and ended up only packing 5 regular sized boxes...how is this even possible? I'm actually a little worried that they were in there so long...what else could they have been doing? The managers were rude, unhelpful, and said it was my fault to not be present during the move. From the very start I told them I am physically in Virginia and this was the entire reason why I wanted the packing service. Good gosh! Also, just want to be clear that I have no affiliation with any moving company and this is a completely honest review. I hope this review helps at least one other person avoid a potentially disastrous move. Still can't believe this company is so terrible. I mean, what type of moving company shows up super late, packs a few boxes in 4 hours, and then calls to cancel the move? Ridiculous. TL;DR: movers showed up late, packed 5 boxes in 4 hours, then left and cancelled move.

Save yourself the time, headache, and damage to your belongings. I've moved 4x in the last 4 years, and this company was by FAR the worst service. Movers showed up 1.5 hours late, one without a mask (I had to give him one so the condo would let him in), which caused us to go an hour over our allotted elevator time. They broke a lamp, scuffed up my couch to the point it needs a new cover, and broke one of the legs off my sofa. They threw many fragile items in a large box for their own convenience, risking damage to important item they were asked not to move and that were set aside. They reassembled my 2 beds without screwing support beams back in place, which almost caused severe damage to my bed frames. The moved my bar set-up without packing it, almost shattering every piece of bar-ware I own. They didn't finish 2 loads, which I realized after they left, leaving me to move them on my own late in the evening. I've called the company and emailed to discuss - still no response. STAY AWAY.
