Initial impression was that Chieftain Vanlines was a friendly, family run business that was going to finally be the moving company that got it right. Unfortunately our furniture was barely protected, using just a small amount of paper and arrived significantly damaged. Boxes were over packed which caused damage to contents. Some furniture was disassembled and the screws or parts needed to reassemble were completely lost. Items such as cloth hampers and TV mounts were tossed on the truck with NO packing, wrapping for protection causing permanent damage. 3/5 of our standing lamps could not stand on their own (despite attempts to repair) upon delivery.”

I haven't been this disappointed in moving company in a while. Chieftain was the inbound crew to unload our truck. They showed up with one less crew member than they were supposed to, and moaned and groaned to us the entire day about it. It took those three workers 9.5 HOURS to unload our truck of only 14,000 pounds, most of which went straight into the garage. They refused to cover the floors stating that it wasn't a requirement and we weren't "special". Our representative assured us that it was a requirement, but the crew didn't care. They tromped through snow and dirt all through our new home, all over the carpets and hardwood floors. They even used their dollies on our hardwood floors, gauging the floor in several places because they were too lazy to even carry things down ONE STEP into the living room. One of the crew members spent more time sitting on our couch or an office chair in our basement conducting business on Craig's List to sell his truck than he did actually unloading. They left trash all over, and left my bathrooms pretty gross, too, if you know what I mean. Though I had the heat barely on (55) they felt the need to open all of the windows upstairs without asking, even damaging mini blinds, when I actually heard one of them say, " the dumb *%&ch thinks she needs the f%$&ing heat on". Classy. They didn't have a ladder in their truck, so instead they used my hutch to stand on to get boxes off the top layer, thereby breaking the shelves. Finally, when boxes needed to go down stairs, they would argue and tell us that it should really be upstairs and why would I want something in the basement. I don't usually complain about military moves. It goes to the lowest bidder, I expect less than stellar service, but this one took the cake and made me feel compelled to warn others. I have never felt like my stuff was just trash to someone else before. I will say that the youngest crew member was polite and did place things where they were labeled. I feel like they don't usually do mil moves, as they had to keep calling the office to ask about things. Either way, boxes were dropped, left all over, our mattresses were unboxed in the truck and dragged up the driveway. All around, don't use them if you have the choice.”

Military move scheduled almost 3 months in advance. They packed up our items (hid a broken figurine among things they weren't packing, when asked shrugged it off). They arrived on load out day with a miniature truck, after starting and not giving my husband a straight answer about what was going on informed him they would be loading 2 small trucks, unloading them in storage and waiting for a driver to be assigned. So that is moving our items 3 times minimum. Several days later and they still don't have a plan to ship the items out with a possibility that they may not deliver until after our original guaranteed date. Meanwhile, I am living out of a suitcase with my 3 & 4 year old. NOT pleased.... DO NOT use them if you can avoid it. I may post and update later... we are expecting missing boxes and lots of breakage given their "plan"”

I just moved to Florida from Omaha Nebraska. I had never had anyone move me before so I was super nervous about it. I packed a lot of my own boxes and they packed my framed pictures and odds and ends. They assured me that if they moved my personal photos all would be okay. They all arrived in perfect condition. After 10 months in storage in their facility. Only one floor lamp was damaged a bit and the driver brought it to my attention right away. It was repairable and was no big deal. I would definitely recommend them. They were always kind when I called and were prompt at getting my furniture to me after I called for delivery.”

We have used Chieftain Van Lines for three different moves. All three homes were 3500 square feet or more and I can honestly say that every piece of furniture arrived perfectly. The movers were consistently polite, on time and were diligent workers. We never felt like we had to micromanage them or advise them in any way. All we had to do was pack our items and Chieftain Van Lines handled everything else. Moving is stressful, but their employees did everything they could to help make it a smooth transaction. They covered our floors to protect the wood and carpet, they handled items carefully and treated us respectfully with every move. We highly recommend this business and don't understand the poor reviews. Keep in mind, the people moving your items are going to treat you as well as you treat them. Lugging heavy furniture all day isn't an easy job. If you are understanding and treat the employees with respect, they will do the same for you and your belongings.”
