I called and spoke to Tony at Affordable moving. He seemed polite enough. He told me to move 2 dressers and a small cabinet and 9 totes would be about $300 maybe less. He couldn’t give me an exact price at the time but that was a general quote. For 2 movers it was $120 an hour plus $130 for the hour drive. So I mean do the math. That’s $250. Assuming we move and finish in 2 hours. The movers were supposed to be by my moving address at 8:30. I was the first stop. Which was great because I was on a tight schedule that day. I got a call that morning at 8;15 ish saying that they had a stop before me and would be arriving at 9:00. It was more like 9:30. Then this man Rich calls his driver and asks to speak to me and tells me the move will be anywhere from $480. -$580.!!! What? Way off from what I was quoted. I was not paying that much money for a small move. The guys came loaded up and we were on the road to the move in address in 30 minutes. They unloaded in 30 minutes too. That’s 1 hour. Plus the hour drive. Total time was 2 hours but this man charged me $360. At the time I had no time to argue. I was leaving out of town and already behind schedule. I called back when I returned. The same man Rich says yes you paid for the hour drive they had to get back to the warehouse! Who charges you to get back to their job?? Listening to the movie was great. Fast and careful with my few belongings. Very courteous and friendly. But to charge me 3 hours for a 2 hour job because your guys need to make it back to the job is ridiculous. And when I called to have this conversation this man Rich wanted to argue. I’m not ok with that. I honestly don’t know why his boss didn’t call me or a supervisor. I read some other reviews on Angie’s list about these guys. Seems other people had the same “argument”, problem. I’d suggest you try some other movers because you just don’t know what the real price will be or if the time they say they’ll be there will be the time they actually get there. And don’t call to complain, you’ll waste your time because they are not going to refund you or even be professional when speaking to you about it. But if you like to argue then Rich is your guy! Affordable was recommended to me by the owner of a decluttering service I hired to help clear for my move. I used Affordable service with satisfaction for an initial move. I was guaranteed the same team to pack and then to load and move, and that team of 3-4 men was excellent. So I returned to Affordable for a second move with the promise of using the same team. My first move was out of state and in a rural area, so hiring a team which knew the route from before made sense. That team did the second packing and promised to come early the next day for loading and moving. However, the next day the team was three hours late, and when they came there were seven men, NOT ONE from the earlier team. We complained to management, but to no avail. Then when I went to get tip money from my attached wall desk -- not to have been moved or emptied -- I found that a large sum of money, put there for tips and also for a vacation I was taking soon, was missing. The owner of the decluttering service was with me at the time and saw me make the discovery. The packets of tip money remained. But the travel money, which had been far at the back of the drawer, was missing. That was nearly three months from the date of this review. I filed a police report and Affordable was contacted by the person recommending them, who was with me when we discovered the missing money. To date, no one from Affordable has made any restitution and only recently sent me an email which, in effect, called me a liar. I waited to leave a negative review to give them a chance to rectify this. But nothing. I am an ordained minister and not accustomed to lying. So all I can say to anyone reading this review is use Affordable Moving Company at your own risk. I trusted them and they have lost that trust.”
