1st Class Moving and Storage Reviews

★☆☆☆☆
DO NOT USE THEM! Unfortunately, I had a horrible experience with this company. This company was recommended to me by my realtor and the reviews were quite decent. The movers were fine, the issues came afterwards... I found a huge scratch and dents on my furniture. I contacted the company and they asked me to submit a claim form, which I did about 3 weeks ago. I have yet heard any updates from the company. I have written several emails and had my realtor contact them (which they did respond and told her that they will get in touch with me), but yet I have not heard back at all. This is something I shouldn't be stressing about, especially after a move, but here about a month into this and I have yet been ignored. Just take responsibility for the items that were damaged. ****UPDATE**** They have finally followed up due to this review and denied my claim. They stated that the movers and I checked that my items were all fine upon arrival, which is a lie. The movers were rushing out because they were behind on time(which I paid extra for), so nothing was never checked (I was not home when they left). I also did not signed off to see if the items were fine. DO NOT EXPECT this company to follow through with the contract agreement. I was never told about mover insurance (by law they're supposed to tell me that.) And there was a huge language barrier between the mover and I. They damaged some expensive furniture and don't want to do what is right. Shame on you! They said they were going to give me an amount of over $200 for the damages (which is nothing) and then went back on their word (I have it in email-will be posting). They lack professionalism and they do not give a crap about customer service and will use the excuse that they're a family business, they are very rude via email and contradicted themselves several times. The person who handles the claim department takes everything personally as well, not business like. They could've handled this situation better, but escalated it, once again due to lack of professionalism and people skills. DO NOT TRUST THEM AT ALL!

This is not easy for me to write as I have used 1st Class twice so far, this time including storage in May 2018. I took care to remove/pack certain precious items myself but should have TAKEN EXTRA PRECAUTION to move things myself (or put them in a safe place away from the movers Upon initially packing my items in May, one mover broke a VERY EXPENSIVE, irreplaceable mask from Ghana, West Africa which I have had for almost 30 years. I informed 1st Class-I was told to file a claim at the end. Hindsight being 20/20, I would have done it right away and not even signed upon completion of packing or even paid. A week later, the men who returned my items did not remove all things out of the boxes; only unwrapped, assembled and or put in place large pieces of furniture, including my bed frame, dining room table and cedar chest. I might add, they had to call the First Class Office 2x because the legs to my couch/bed could not be found (the packers put them in the oddest location-boxes among packed items-who knew?). I myself alone had the task of not only removing items out of boxes and putting items things back in place, but also disposing of the boxes-this task took over a week for me to do among working full-time. A few days later I noted items of mine were missing (such as base to my bike wind trainer/missing, desktop computer adapter/missing), and contacted 1st Class corresponding via phone/email, and the employee I spoke to "JOHN DOE" said asearch was being done to no avail, BUT he told I can file a claim. keeping this in mind, I soon discovered that more items of mine were not only missing, but also and damage (including my couch arm/broke, Stereo Bluetooth/broke,) which would cost almost $2,000 to replace. I even have an expensive new wallet missing, which I never got to use. Once again, if I knew this I would not have signed and paid until I put ALL My items in place and disposed of the boxes. After sending a claim for the above noted items, I sent in another claim for damage items (vacuum cleaner attachments/missing, clothing storage box/damage) costing roughly $50 to replace. PLEASE NOTE: BOTH CLAIMS WERE SUBMITTED WITHIN 30 DAYS AS NOTED ON THE CLAIM FORM) Oddly, they offered $32 for my second claim, ignored the first. I called almost daily for several days to get an explanation- June 27, I received an email from customer service stating, "Your claim is being evaluated and you will hear from us by email by Monday July 2, 2018. Thank you" Unfortunately, I did not hear from them and once again began calling and calling. Finally, I get a response from an employee (I shall not say his name) on July 17 via email "I am out of the office until August 1st. If you wish to discuss your claim, I will be happy to do that upon my return. In the meantime, feel free to reply to this email and I will do my best to reply back to you within 48 business hours. Please do not call the office to discuss your claim as I am the one handling it and I am not available by phone until August 2nd or after." As I yet, I have not heard a word, though I responded by email Sad, I was very impressed with this company when I first used them in 2015 and referred a friend who has used it 3x most recently last year. Based on my experience, I will never use them again and suggest you do the same...unless you really don't care what happens to your items or concerned if they get lost or STOLEN?

I recently used their service to move from Maryland to Florida and I'm sadly disappointed and missing two boxes. My best guess is that they were stolen by the movers. Mine was a one bedroom move, so a small 15-box move along with a bedroom furniture set. Everything seemed disorganized from the start. On pickup, my movers were 2 hours late. They had a team of about 4 guys come and quickly pack my room and boxes up. The gentleman in charge said he picked up 12 boxes- I corrected him and said 15. I counted them more than 3 times, I even labeled them 1-15, and added my name and phone number in case one was misplaced. Upon delivery, I received 13 boxes. I called back 3 different times to notify them of the missing boxes and in a very nonchalant way was told they would do an inventory check. During my last follow up, the gentleman on the phone was very dismissive and said they delivered everything they picked up, which was only "12 boxes." It was not 12 boxes, it was 15 boxes, and how is it that you delivered 13 if you only picked up 12? And how is it that I'm missing box number 11 and 15? I will continue to follow up but sadly expect it'll go nowhere. It must be nice to promise great service when you're the person on the phone, but it's no skin off your back if the delivery didn't occur in full. Use them at your own risk, but I guess the right thing would've been to place GPS trackers on my boxes to see where they ended up. I should add there was no mention of reimbursing me for my missing items.

We used this company 3 rimes in the past 7 years and each and every time they exceeded our expectations. Their quotes are always on the money, they show up on time, and they work hard until the job is done. We will never have to look for a moving company again as dealing with 1st class has been a pleasure, if you really can say that about moving in general. 1st Class Moving Storage, Inc. Response

I had never heard about 1st Class before but I decided to give a small business a try based on a friend's recommendation. We moved a 5 bedroom house locally using 2 of their trucks and 5 movers relatively quick, considering how much stuff we had. Everything came in safe and wrapped, they reassembled our furniture into the rooms and setup the boxes for us to unpack. Overall it was a great experience and I would certainly use them again if I need to make another move.

We used 1st Class to move and storage our house while we waited for our house to be built in Annapolis and and everything worked out exactly as planned. Furniture arrived safe and sound, all of our furniture was wrapped and protected ahead of time and they provided nice floor covers to protect the new house, which was a nice touch. We would not hesitate to recommend 1st Class to anyone needing moving or storage in this area. Dennis and his crew were great to work with both times.

These guys are fantastic. I needed to move just a couple of pieces of furniture, including a piano, from my mom's house to mine. They were $100-$200 less than any other quotes I got, friendly, efficienct, flexible and careful. Highly recommend.

Very bad costumer service. Would never use them after the rude discussion I had in person with them. Poor attitude with foul language. It reflects on how they would handle the rest of my move. Talk about class!!!

I've been meaning to write this review; however have been busy unpacking. If you are looking for a full service, BBB A+ Accredited moving company, this is the company you should turn to! From the moment I met the owner Hassan, I knew I was in good hands. They packed my home and moved me within in two days. They brought in a team of six very professional and respectful movers who I would recommend to all. They are extremely responsive and unlike many moving companies honor their quotes & contracts and most importantly treat their clients as professionals, with the highest level of respect and professionalism!

They got the job done. If I could give a 2.5 I would, however there was quite a bit left inside our apartment and garage, including a safe that they didn't move. Apparently you are supposed to babysit them while they move to ensure they collect everything. It is sad that work ethic wouldn't tell you to move the items without being asked. We made 3 trips post moving company to collect remainder of items. The company came recommended to us, however we would not recommend to someone else.

1 St Class Moving and Storage are great company and one of the best right now on the market. My friend advised me to give these movers a try since I was really concerned about the safety of my belongings. I needed really careful strong movers that will take a great care of my antique furniture and will not scratch or rip a thing. My friend really liked 1St Class Movers and said that Movers works like a clock - everything was wrapped and protected for free, there was no time stretching, there was no damages and the attitude of movers was very pleasant. So I decided to give them a try. And I was very very happy with this choice. These movers are everything my friend talked about. They are very polite, they are super fast. I had 3 movers and one truck for the move, Gustavo, Danny and Wilmer. All movers were great. Gustavo did some magic tricks with wrapping my coach. I mean this thing is really heavy and he was able to put it on a side, flip it upside down, wrap it in plastic and blankets in minutes, all by himself! Danny and Wilmer were also great movers. They carried all the big items down the stairs without any struggle. My final bill turned out to be actually less than I expected. 1St Class Movers really exceeded my expectations. Definitely recommend them to all my friends and relatives!

I used 1st Class Moving a couple of months ago and they did a great job. The crew came early and well prepared and were very efficient in packing things up. They got the job done with much success. I would definitely recommend this company.

Our move from Lake Mary to St. Augustine went smoothly, thanks to The First Class Moving Team. Two trucks and six workers arrived on time. The moving team was very careful in the handling of fragile items, and they took their time to thoroughly wrap chairs, and antiques. There was a plan in place for marking boxes, and where to place them at the new residence. Thank you, to all the First Class workers, who made our move a success. Carol and Tom

We did a long distance move including storage with 1st Class. They may do better for in-town moves, but we had a pretty bad experience with our move on several different front: tldr: They broke lots of our stuff. We got treated badly by customer service on the phone. Had a horrible experience trying to make a totally reasonable insurance claim for all the stuff they broke. Issue 1) We selected the option where if they overestimated our actual weight the price would go down. After picking up our stuff we were assured our stuff weighed more than we'd paid for so there would be no reduction but no weight tickets were provided. When they dropped off our stuff the driver said the same thing and when pressed said we could call the office for a copy of the weight tickets. After much back and forth with the office they actually weighed the truck empty for the first time after our drop off and in fact we were owed money back despite many assurances otherwise previously. Issue 2) At drop off the driver insisted we had to sign his paperwork to say he had in fact made the drop off. I read the fine print and it also said we agreed there was no damage. Given that we'd spent over $1000 for the no deductible insurance and that all our stuff was still in boxes and plastic wrap I had no way of knowing this so after much discussion I made a note that various items were damaged on the paperwork before signing to preserve my right to submit damages later. Once we tried to submit for damages though it became a prolonged horrible experience that started with them saying we'd already waived our right to claim damages when we signed the driver's paperwork (that we were told we must sign and which didn't waive our right to claim damages). It then extended into months of delays while the owner was "on vacation" and paperwork iterations with a ton of photos. It ended with us being given a choice between getting half our totally reasonable request for damages or going to formal arbitration which I would apparently have had to pay some of the costs for myself. We settled out of frustration with the time we were wasting arguing with them and just be done with dealing with them. Along the way I was literally yelled at by their customer service lead on more than one occasion to try to get us to go away. The people you deal with after your move starts aren't nearly as friendly as the sales folks. ...buyer beware and their insurance is almost impossible to collect on. Issue 3) As for the actual movers and the packing job, everyone did appear to be a real employee as opposed to temps or day labors as they'd advertised, but that didn't change the fact many of them seemed new, didn't know what they were doing or did pretty poor jobs. Our saddest example was when someone did a good job packing a box half full with precious fragile things well wrapped in paper. When they ran out of light/fragile stuff to pack and decided the thing to do would be to top the box off with our big steel 3 hole punch and our 10lb laminator just tossed in. It didn't end well. At the end of packing the driver came to say they were all done and I had to walk him back through the house and point out all the stuff they'd left in closests and on shelves. He acted upset and I was unsure why as it's not like I was planning to pack bags of random small stuff on high shelves to travel with me. This wasn't stuff they'd have any reason not to take and they did then go through and finish packing everything. I think it was just late and he was heading into overtime or something and wanted to get rolling. Other examples are two tables, including our nice wood dining room table, that tore through their blankets and had damage on the corners and edges. Our grill had a wheel ripped off and paint removed from the front of the pedestal. A door was ripped off a hutch. There was also lots of other small stuff that was poorly wrapped/packed that got damaged. Stuff always gets broken when you move, but this was worse than usual and the fact they made the premium insurance we paid for practically useless in issue 2 just added insult to injury. Bottom line. Probably ok for a local/single day move, horrible for long distance/storage. Get everything in writing and demand to see weigh tickets if you're paying by the pound. Watch them pack like a hawk and don't be afraid to speak up if something doesn't look well protected. Sign NOTHING at drop off. Their insurance is a useless joke you'll regret paying for if you need it. I've moved 5 times and this was by far our worst experience.

If you hate moving, call 1st class! You may think your move is too small like I did (from a 1 bedroom apt to another 1 bedroom apt), but Hassan and his team were happy to assist me with my move. I was a little nervous about timing as I had to reserve the freight elevators at both locations, but the movers showed up right at 8am! And they were done even faster than anticipated. They wrapped my couch, boxed my picture frames and took extra care of my China dishes. The staff was friendly and courteous and saved me and my back so much stress! There were no surprise charges; the price was the same as my initial free estimate. I will definitely be using 1st class again!
